MT-1 packing: reserve loop length, & flat vs pro-pack
ripcord4 replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have an MT-1XX and an MC-4 and I ALWAYS flat pack them. I get better openings and it is easier than PRO packing - too much nylon to conveniently handle. Too easy to miss something amidst all that canopy. Make certain your rigger flat packs the reserve, also. -
Has anyone heard anything about a "new" jump center at Umatilla, FL airport. I know there was one years ago, but I have heard someone was trying to open another DZ at the airport there.
-
-- not sure if any of it got through past that onto the bag or the chute itself or not. You didn't open the rig to check the bag and canopy??? Always assume the worst - in this case - yes, the bag and canopy got wet with Sprite. What's a repack compared against a sticky bag/canopy?
-
I think you will see the MC-6 in the field long before the ATPS.
-
No, thanks! If I auger in, it's because I screwed up, not someone else.

In the '60's and early '70's, I dyed several harnesses and probably half a dozen cheapo's and PC's different colors. I put hundreds of jumps on them with no ill-effects. I still have a dyed PC I jump occasionally - 40 years after the dye job - it's still going strong!

Chuck: First live pickup using the FRS was Gunnery Sergeant Lee Woods, USMC. Don't know the actual date but it was prior to summer of 1962.

Anyone Know why the MC 4 canopy has a large grommet
ripcord4 replied to kenneth21441's topic in Gear and Rigging
My copy of TM 10-1672-287-23&P for the MC4 DOES indeed show the grommet just aft of the main pilot chute bridle attaching ring. However, there is nothing in the text to indicate what it is for. -
If you are speaking of the military static line harness and container, just route the seal thread through the same tabs that you used for the break tape, seal it and ship it.

I have an Altimaster that is 39 years old and has over 2,000 jumps on it and it still works just fine. Age and number of jumps means nothing - it's how it is used/abused that matters.
-
Is this by any chance the same Pelican Skydivers that used to jump in Croom, MD? Waaay back in the day - early '60's.

There were NO WW II HALO altimeters. HALO is a way past WW II concept. That alti pictured is a fairly recent model civilian skydiving model.

What's the big problem here about removing the RSL? If you don't like/want the RSL, just disconnect the damn thing - you don't have to remove it and you avoid the potential TSO question.
-
I would say any properly rated rigger could reline your MC-4 canopies. The hard part is finding the line sets. Why would your reserve need relining? Chances are, it has never been used.
-
No, the new Universal Static Line and snap does not have a safety wire/pin on the snap. Actually, the pin never was intended as a safety device - it is a gauge to ensure that the snap is fully closed - you cannot insert the pin if it is not fully closed. The new style snap has a double gate for safety.

Just what I said - above.

Bravo is 1.1 oz nylon and has the anti-inversion netting added to later manufactured canopies. Charlie is lo-po 0-5 - 5.0 CFM porosity with netting. Also, the old 11 orifice design was revised to 17 orifices in the same 11 gores, 3 openings on gores 4 and 26. Orifices are tape reinforced horizontally on gores 4 and 26 between the upper edge of the large orifice and lower edge of the new lower small opening. Shorter 22' suspension lines are arranged 8 on each riser instead of 7 on the rear risers. There are several other minor differences also....nothing major. Speaking of the SF-10: does anyone know where I might find one that is airworthy?
-
$500 is high for a MC-1 Bravo. An MC-1 Charlie would be fairly priced at $500 if the reserve was no more than 10 years old.

Same here - no go with Para Gear. These items are very hard to find in original GI mil-spec. Pilot chutes can be swapped ( Grabber, 44 Magnum, etc) but everything else should be GI. Intact, complete rigs are getting scarcer all the time. Ripcords are listed in P/G's catalog but they won't sell them to civilians.
-
It was probably mine - she packs my MC-4 reserves for me.
-
Probably just the usual manufacturing tolerance.
-
My MC-4 with ripcords and no AAD is 49#. Hmmm....
-
Yep, I have 2 and they are fun to jump - but heavy. It would be good if Para-Flite would sell parts, but no joy there!
-
Para-Flite will not sell their military items to skydivers. They are having fits as it is with so many MC-4's on the civilian market. Canopies and harnesses are fairly easy and cheap to come by, but the bags and handles are scarce and expensive. Many MT-1XX and MC-4 rigs are on e-bay at times but most are incomplete.
