The problem was actually during making of new patterns the person making them changed the way the curves were generated. In those days(before computer generated patterns) they were drawn by hand. The fix was to trim the ribs to a more correct shape and a new front top panel. I don't remember what the stamp said on the reworked canopies but it was noted on the canopy. Pretty good memory there BTW... But the ribs were from a wrong/different canopy were actually sewn in by mistake. Dave DeWolf actually found this. He saw a guy properly flaring his canopy and just pound in anyway. He told the guy that something was wrong with his canopy. He sent it in and Para-Flite found the problem. Several canopies were never sent back in and are still out there somewhere. The affected canopy S/N's are listed in Poynter's Vol I. MEL

Below the video he said it stalled at shoulder level and didn't want broken legs.

FYI: Those volumes are pack volumes.

Maybe he is one of the ones that have go through another Tandem course.

Could you expand on this? The SafetyFlyer was TSO'd under C23(b), which has no req'ment for a packing manual. This is the part I do not recall: " . . . you must follow the manufacturer recommendation . . ." Jerry Baumchen It wasn't in the TSO it was in the regs for riggers I forget what part. We consulted with our FAA contact at the time and he thought we could do that.
-
It became defacto because at the time the FAA regs stated you must follow the manufacturer recommendation and Para-Flite required it. It was meant to keep riggers that had never seen a ram air or packed one from packing it. At the time there were quite of few riggers that were not familiar with the ins and outs of ram airs and PFI didn't want problems with such a big change.

I was actually referring to the jammer. Sorry for not making that clear.

It takes more than a few minutes of study. And the whole Idea of Amateur radio is that it is self policing. Sound familiar? It is what skydiving is supposed to be. I got my Technician license in February and General in March my dad is still a ham from the 1930s and yes I would report your ass for illegally using the ham bands. If you don't want to get a license use cb. Amateur radio actually helps in a disaster and are in great need in the flooded areas in the south.

I'm glad everyone is licensed. It appears the FCC is starting to get back into enforcement. just one example http://www.arrl.org/news/fcc-notice-of-violation-alleges-malicious-interference-transmitting-music-failure-to-identify

Unless everyone is licensed stay out of the Ham Bands it is illegal and heavily policed. The fines will not be worth it!

He was under recognized for his contributions to the sport. Terry Crowe story: I worked at Para-Flite & Terry worked at SSE repairing Sentinels and altimeters we shared the same space. I was on student status and the next weekend I was doing my first 10 second delay we got permission for Terry to train me on cutaways during the week so I could jump a StratoStar Ropes and rings, this is shortly after the Strato Star came out, at every chance he drilled me. So jump 11 was my first square jump . It was a BIG Deal back then! I thank him for taking the time to do that ! He didn't have to. I think I was one of the first to jump a square on student status back in I think 1974.

Paperwork for exiting an aircraft without a TSO harness/reserve?
accumack replied to base935's topic in Safety and Training
My guess is it was a technicality as it was not a parachute jump he had no parachute and used no parachute. So it wasn't a parachute jump. -
Para-Flite did not use 4 locking stows and Dick Morgan while he was responsible for many things did not invent the safety stow it was Elek Puskas.
-
Looking good! Keep up the good work the first British parachute manufacturer!

It was more of a matter it was faster to flake than to find the tabs. Never was anything about disturbing the airfoil as we used to put yarn on the canopy to watch the airflow in different modes of flight.
-
Para Flite didn't put packing tabs on until I think the Cruislite was the first. Some dealers installed them on all canopies they sold. I think the Pioneer Osprey/Merlin may have been the first I saw them on but I'm not sure.
-
Actually Para Flite was one of the last to offer packing tabs. But when people converted the top ropes and rings on Para Planes to a slider they just cut the rings off and left the tabs on top. Thus packing tabs were born.

I think he was meaning pulling down the rears for a flare.
-
Looking Good! Keep at it.

The single biggest problem is loosing altitude awareness. It has killed thousands over the years at least hundreds! Listen to your instructors not the internet they know your abilities!
