Shouldn't make so much of a difference. You have it set for km/h perhaps?
  2. I fit the newbie category quite well. This weekend, in one jump I lost one of the arm-wings on my Prodigy as I was "flaring" to slow down some before the pull. I had previously practised to fly without the wings and I found it easy to handle. I still pull at 1500m to give myself some time to handle such things though. On a later jump I ended up in some flat-spin on my back, after a bad transition from belly to back flying... I found it easy to handle, but I'll practice rolls some more before trying to back fly again.
  3. I tried to get a demo canopy from PV (now fly firebird), but I didn't even get a response to my e-mails (I tried a couple of times over a few months). I talked to the local distributor and he told me that he had stopped getting responses to his e-mails as well, so we both got ourselves some fine canopies from Icarus instead.
  4. But the fact remains that you can control the camera via firewire. There are also some microcontrollers with firewire connectors that could be used to build a "cameye", but obviously it is going to cost more than a LANC "cameye"-ish remote would cost. Dito with USB for DSLR's without remote controls.
  5. You can upload it to google docs & spreadsheets and view it there, I think. http://docs.google.com/
  6. Why not have a knowledge base on your website with the answers to common questions? You surely must get a few of these questions more than once, so taking the time to type down the answer would save you some time in the long run.
  7. Depends on "use". All will probably show the light, but my cam eye can't be used to turn on the PC107E's power. It works great for starting/stopping the recording and for turning off the power. A newer version than mine of the cameye should work correctly for the PC107E though. Not that it matters for me. It is just as easy to turn on/off the power with the camera's button.
  8. I'm not a rigger, but some riggers I've talked to claim they've seen more wear at the risers from people turning their rings at every jump than wear on the rings from people not turning them. Personaly I only turn them when it is time for flexing the rings. After 500 jumps on the risers, I can't see any wear on either.
  9. We tested cutting away from twisted risers on the ground from the suspended practice rigg. There were no dirt on the risers, but the cable wasn't freshly lubed either. With two hands few people were strong enough to be able to cut-away and this was just from their own weight... We had no lubrication handy, otherwise we should have tested how much it would have helped.
  10. Sorry for being off topic, but where do you rank packing on grass in the shadow?

  12. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Those ugly, death-traps fell out of fashion years ago. They are still seen quite often though and the manufacturers doesn't seem to write anything about them, leaving it up to the riggers to decide if they interfere with the TSOd system. Some brands of AADs are regulated by some manufacturers though. Seems like double standards to me.
  13. What about the reserv loops? The main isn't TSOd either, is it? Are slider keeping devices on the reserv-flap TSOd (often a ball with elastic bands)?
  14. I really like my 10-22mm too, but a fisheye is often cheaper. If one doesn't want the fisheye effect, one can still use a fisheye lens and then post process the picture. There are programs and settings for most common lenses. The drawback is that one has to crop the image some and lose some resolution (and of course spend some time post processing), but on the other hand it is cheaper.
  15. Yes, that was my point. I have not seen anyone complain here about reusing music, so why complain when someone reuses video content? Sure, I'd rather see a movie with new content, but I wouldn't complain about someone reusing music or video content, it's after all what digital media leads to.
  16. You mean, like rip off and re edit other people's music?
  17. Most digital video and still cameras have an UV filter infront of the sensor, so an extra UV filter before the lens does not make much good for the picture quality. It can be nice to have as a protection for the lens though, depending on the price of the lens & filters.
  18. The flap never opened when I had a larger canopy in my javelin, but it has happened a few times when I put in a smaller canopy. I've seen a few javelins with a little pocket of some elastic material under the top flap and it keeps the closing flap where it should be though.
  19. That might very well be true, but statements about the existence of animals with certain properties do not give any support for that argument, because the animals will have to do more than just archive a good glide.
  20. You are still, comparing apples and oranges. A 160lb flying snake might be really good at flying, but perhaps lousy at protecting itself against predators so it will be dead before it is able to make baby snakes... A naturally flying/gliding creature has to balance lots of factors, not just the optimal flight performance to be a success. It has to be safe against predators, parasites, etc. It has to have a form that allows it to gather food and consume it and thus gain energy faster than it uses it up and so on. There are a lot of factors. With cheap oil and slaves, we rich humans do not have many of those limitations...
  21. But birds have to carry their own weight to height and they have to eat food to get that energy. Not quite true for WS flights, making the observation useless. If the longest distance is the goal, I'd imaging having a density close to the air's is best... At least according to seeds...
  22. No. Either you truly believe that your actions don't affect when or how you die (which is what you wrote), or you don't. If your actions don't matter, why bother with the parachute? It just costs money and is a hassle to pack. If you don't believe what you wrote, stop using it as an excuse for your actions. But to get back on track. I jump with some Adidas Elevation Climacool sunglasses/goggles with prescription lenses. I've had to remove them when jumping in low light conditions to properly detect other canopies. Luckely I didn't have to land out at that time. I got them, not so much for looks, but simply because I want an open-face helmet and prescription lenses. I'll get some clear lenses for them before the season starts again though.
  23. That must save a lot of work and money. No need to buy an expensive parachute nor having to pack one...
  24. Its better to take off the visor on those cold days when it has fogged up...

    BASE RESEARCH

Isn't it hard to get good results from such a study? I mean, the study will not be about BASE jumpers, but about BASE jumpers that like to help out with such a study. Are those two groups equal?
