My friend's husband was killed in a car wreck just a few hours ago. He was driving a street he knew well, and drove every day....in fact it was basically his driveway. He did everything right, but that didn't help him when the other driver wasn't paying attention. While doing something safely may help from becoming a statistic, it does not completely prevent it. The general population does a lot of dangerous things without thinking twice. Base jumpers think about jumps over and over and manage everything they have any control over. This does improve your chances, but they are still chances. Black death will always play a roll, just as it has in our everyday lives. Someone might get shot walking to their car, but we don't blame them for leaving their house. I'm going to say the odds really are 0/100 because that is life. What we are are talking about in this thread is the "when" and the "how." It's my thought that if base is part of your life, then it will be part of your death. My high school dance team coach's husband Jeff just died. He was killed in a car accident. From what I know he was t-boned at an intersection not far from his home. He leaves behind his young wife and three young children. Their youngest is right around 5 and I think their oldest is 10. They are way too little to have to go through this. I know Julie well and this is going to destroy her. Jeff was an amazing guy and they loved each other dearly. Jeff was in his mid thirties. My friends please be careful every day. A good friend of mine has had tinnitus for as long as he can remember. He made the brilliant choice of becoming a professional rock/punk musician (and is making it worse at every concert ). There is research going on, but treatment is hard to come by and not awfully successful. Hopefully yours will go away eventually, but make sure you talk to your doc and learn how to avoid making it worse. For everyone else that does not have tinnitus-- know that you can get it quite easily. If something is ever uncomfortably loud, get away or wear ear plugs, and if you find your ears ringing tepmorarorly from something (concert, race track, ect.) make sure you bring ear plugs with you the next time! I don't know too many details about it, because I just came home and there it was. It's a Mini-Cup car, and we race them at the NASCAR track here. They are usually made to resemble Nextel Cup cars when all of the decals get put on. They are amazingly fast on the track out here, but they're mainly just driven for shits and giggles (though some get really competitive about it).
