  1. Quiet man - if the DZO finds out we're going to 15,600 on every load we'll get busted back to 15 --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  2. Normally 15k and change. I average 2-3 18K's each weekend. DZ Elevation 800 ft Trip to 15k 7 minutes Trip to 18k 9-10 minutes God bless the turbeen I'm excited about this weekend - I "get to jump" a 182. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  3. OK here's the thing - Premiere started real time effects and transitions with a version of 5.0 that was only sold bundled with accelerator cards like TARGA 2000 and Pinnacle DC1000. It was a standard with 6.5 and up because of the general increase in processor and bus speed. You can don many of the effects eral time but depending on you computer's processor and memory and bus, you may have limitations. SOOOO . . . . If you are running Pro, just watch the little green line at the top of the time line "yardstick". If it turns red, render the thing and play it from the time line - you can record that way with smooth transitions and effect without exporting the movie to a file. If you are running 6.0 or s slow machine with not much memory - just render the work area to check the effect - finish the project and export the movie to a file or to tape. If you want to speed things up and get some pretty nice DVE's get a Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro accelerator card. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    100

Before anyone says it, the beer's in the fridge. Thanks to three very jovial and cooperative British tourists making their first 18K tandem today, I gave my DZ family a little bit back before they get (I know - there is no statute of limitations on pie) their's. I've been quietly building up the jumps over the past 2 months so I cooked up a little scheme with the tandem students. We all piled on the King Air and as we started to roll they shouted in unison (God bless them - what an effort) "Hey Allen - how many jumps have you made?" It was so loud the pilot hit the brakes for an instant. "This is my 100th," says I. The reaction was priceless. P.S. I like lemon merange. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  5. I can sympathize. I have a friend who stands 6' 9.5". We recently laid a tape on him and found the reality is 6'10". Therefore - we can no longer call him your tallness - he prefers your "high"ness. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  6. First, let me qualify this response. I am not an aerial videographer. I do however produce production video and Commercial DVD’s. Here are my thoughts on this thread. First, what has been described by John sounds like “linear” editing on a “non-linear” computer based system. That will always take longer unless you’ve invested $30k or more in a broadcast news system. Second, each video is a mini project and so you want to be frugal about how you budget your time, tape, and equipment hours to get the most high quality product in the least amount of time. That maximizes revenue and increases customer satisfaction. There are 3 basic shots in a tandem video: 1. Interviews 2. Aerial Sequences 3. “B” Roll (filler and set-up shots) There are 2 basic types of effects: 1. Transitions 2. Video Effects Interviews and aerial sequences require the customer’s interaction. “B” roll doesn’t require you to shoot in sequence or in the same time space. When you think of it, how much time do you spend in the plane and on the ground shooting the same “B” roll over and over. Even the very best linear videographers spend time processing this “B” roll every time. If you are serious about non-linear there are “Need” items and “Want” items. You “Need” 2 computers. In reality it’s the same as the linear process where you need 2 video sources. In non-linear, you need an editing deck and a processing deck. You accomplish that for roughly the same price as the linear approach. You’ll need to set them up on at least a peer to peer network. The “Want” items here are gigabit Ethernet and flat panel displays, but you can live with 100 Mbit Ethernet and CRT’s. For software you need the right editing program. In my book for most that would be Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. I’ll just speak to PC because that keeps cost down and frankly, that’s what I use – mainly because of networking constraints. I don’t have a software preference between the two (that’s a subject for another debate). In addition to the non-linear editing software, these also contribute to the consumer-pro suite. Audition (sound editor) Encore DVD (DVD mastering software) After Effects (effects software-really nice to have but pricey and not essential) Photoshop (or just about any photo editing software) STEP 1 – Edit on PC1 The trick to non-linear is to understand the project timeline. Freefall is usually predictable give or take a few seconds, and the camera flyer succumbs to gravity as the final arbiter. The interviews, landings, and in-plane video are up to the videographer to determine length. Discipline in this area saves loads of time in postproduction – keep them close to the same length. “B” roll, titles, and stills should always be exact in length with some over-run and under-run possible in the B rolls’ videos to adjust for overall project time. A library of these elements should be built – such as “out the door take-off morning bright”, “out the door take-off afternoon clouds” etc. Once you’ve built a time line for the conditions, you can set it up once or twice a day and not worry beyond that. Set up a video timeline with your stock royalty free music and insert the title and filler footage in the appropriate locations in the sequence. Then, the only video you have to capture is the customer related shots. Capture as clips, import to the asset list and pop them into place on the timeline - should take less than X 2 of footage run time once you get the hang of it. Save the project and export as a movie to the “other” PC hard disk via Ethernet. STEP 2 – Post Production DVD Creation on PC2 Using a product like Encore build a standard library of DVD projects. This is non-linear as well and allows for some very efficient mastering of high quality products. Using your exported video from step one, transcode and burn the DVD. I prefer to build an image and then master from the image. That allows me to save the image in case I need to produce a copy later, but to save time, you can do it all in one step – click it and forget it. Summary The creativity in editing and postproduction speaks volumes for your work and your DZ. Linear or Non-linear; no hardware makes up for creativity. The more you know about the software the better your productivity. Productivity=money. I’ve jumped at DZ’z that keep loads waiting while DVD’s are edited. Using the software I mentioned, if you do digital stills, you can build a hybrid DVD that has the video and the stills on the same DVD, a .wmv or mpeg1 file so they can send it to their friends over the internet, and a compelling advertisement/promo for the DZ and even your services. Everything is in the can except what you shoot for that customer – the only extra time is the time it takes to burn the DVD – but you don’t have to be there for that. With experience and planning you can turn this out in 10-15 minutes of your time. And you can cut a few minutes off you “B” roll shooting for a cold drink/quiet moment/or gear safety check. Sorry to ramble on – just another way to look at the time-space conundrum. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  7. Lee Everyone in my Dad's paternal family has a middle name beginning with "L" and no one has the same middle name. Who started that has always been a family mystery. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  8. Another perspective - I gave it up for love 30 years ago and missed it every day, quietly, introspectively, wistfully. I made other things work for fun and good times. Now I'm back, 54, and have a few nevers in the bag. I'll probably never break 2000. I'll never swoop a 2+ wingloaded high performance canopy. Might never do a freefly bigway. I'm already getting the "when ya gonna downsize?" from the kids at the DZ but most of it is just good natured fun. I thoroughly enjoy just diving out the door and tracking in my old guy no fire out the ass style across a little piece of sky. I love to hear the angels sing when my body position is just right and the quiet airflow across the gear has that certain whistling chord. I pull at 4 not because I'm worried but because I like the ride. I spent the last thirty years accumulating all the jump tickets I probably couldn't have afforded back then anyway. I've had a full life up to this point and I'm really enjoying it every tomorrow. Somebody steps down, somebody steps up. You miss what was and you wonder about what will be. There are still plenty of blank pages in the minds picture book and plenty of faded snapshots to look at when it's cold outside. Like Satchmo said - they can't take that away from me. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  9. Just curious if anyone else out there ever jumped at Idaho Falls in 74-76. There was a failed restaurant that ended up being our jump loft at the airport called "The Tiki Room". --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  10. Show up - you can give my rig a try. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    Doggie heaven

I'd like to believe that . . . Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  12. Sherpa is great we picked this breed cause we wanted a dog able to go mountain biking with us and he definitely fits the bill, he is just to young yet for that kind of hard exercise so he will get in shape over the winter and next spring we will see if he is ready. one word - springer --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  13. You will not wear him out physically. As soon as the lactic acid level goes down, he'll be ready for more. Physical exercise for your pooch (looks like a Terv?) is great though, but just makes him more likely to beat you down the next time. Keep it up - every day you spend hiking adds an hour to his life. If you want to calm him down and wear him out make him exercise his mind. Obedience class is good. Learning to "Stay" is great. Scent discrimination practice makes him think and he'll have to remember the scent and catalog the others and eliminate them - a very fun exercise for him and mentally exhausting. Take it from my partner (Duke 1994-2003), an obsessive compulsive retrieving junky - if they bring it back one more time than you want to throw it - you lose the game! Sherpa sounds like a winner. Have a ball (or kong), it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it together. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  14. How can yu go wrong with that list? Reasons to choose Deland It's Deland - ou may get to experience a hurricane in the process. The drive to the tunnel gives you a chance to get aquainted. Close enough to some other really good DZ's to check out a wide variety of DZ culture-planes-eithics - well not ethics. Di I mention you may get to experience a Hurricane? --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    costume help

OK just an idea, but it might be fun for the kids - Pieces of eight. The costume would be a pirate, but drawn on cardboard pieces (8) and worn like a sandwich board. Shouldn't be too hard to make or too costly. Arrrgh - ye may be needin an artist to help yaw now. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  16. You can mix audio in Premiere. I'd suggest you first try to crossfade the two sources using the constant power setting. If that doesn't work reduce the voume on one track while increasing it on the other (with the overlap. You can also split the audio and video tracks, export the audio, and work on it in a mixing program if you have one that you're comfortable with. It would help if you'd post what version of Premiere. 1.5 handles this a bit differently than previous versions by implementing key frames for sound and video. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  17. OK flyers, here's the question. I'm buying several PC1000's to do corporate "game films" of high tech maintenance on large power generation turbines. We have some state of the art neato camera stuff that is similar to what the doc looks up your _ _ _ with, but the pictures suck. When our guys crawl through these big machines they come back with a clipboard full of notes and some really fond memories. My thought is to put one of the PC1000's in the lowest profile camera helmet I can find - turn it on and let it run. Can't really tolerate alot of exposed stuff because of the FME (foreign material exclusion) rules so it needs to be a "clean" set-up. Definately no need for stills. Got any ideas on what would make a good helmet? --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  19. Did you lose the instruction manual she came with? Thank your lucky stars for this experience. It is nature's way of teaching you in stages the techniques that will be required as you little angle grows into her teens. At that age she won't have to spend a week with the Grands, just an afternoon with Buffy and Heather at the mall. While I have often said that the best cure for unruly children is duct tape, the real answer is just keep on being Mom. Once she metobolizes the sugar and gets her feet back on the ground things will level out. If you continue to be her parent now - you get to be her friend for the rest of your life once she grows up. One last thought - buy her a very loud toy before her next visit to the Grands - make sure she takes it with her. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
  20. Can only report a personal observation. I was up in Deland two weeks ago to pick up my G4. Looked to me like things were rolling right along up there. There did seem to be a distinct shortage of sun tan lotion - probably due to the departure of the Swedish Bikini 4-way team prior to Dennis. Seriously - you'd put ordering a G4 on hold based on an internet post? That's sad. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  22. This week is 183. I may have hit a bump in the road (the Rocky Road icecream that is) --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

  24. Thanks to Kristin at Griffon Rigging, Ward at Mirage, and Kim at PD for going that extra mile and getting me in the air this weekend with the new rig. Beer was bought, the rain came and went, and even with two less cells and 50 less sq ft of fabric, the landings were stand up and on target. Chalk up falling out of the five way to "youthful exuberance." Gotta get some video . . . --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

    Independence Day!!!

Wahoo-today I get to pick up my rig - all assembled and everything. No more gear rental, no more brick on the back, no more leg strap woe's, no more back flying-flap opening-bridle dumping so stay on your belly jumps. Hope it doesn't rain all day. Pictures to follow . . . --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.
