  1. AreUCrazy, the attachment you have posted is one of the most digusting displays of bad taste that I have seen on a BASE/skydiving related forum. I do not know if you ever had any contact with diabled people, but I can assure you that every single one of them who achieves participation in "the games" has achieved MORE than you might ever achieve. You might want to invest some of your time and energy in helping them and making their lives better instead of using it on an internet forum to make fun of them. It's already hard enough for these people, and you making fun of them is NOT a display of compassion with the less fortunate. The attachment you posted shows nothing but just plain poor taste, bad education and a miserable mental attidute. I ask you to remove the attachment, please. oh, just in case you are one of the people that only speak one language (what are they called again?): the translation of my signature would be "respect is our task". that applies also to human beings outside of our sport. flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *

    WANKERS

well... base number... they are just numbers, right? it is some fun for some of us, and some don't care. does it say something about you ability? no. does it say something about your behaviour/mental status/ethics? no. does it have ANY significance: NO. oh well, wait. actually, it does. in a country far, far away from the US - they call it "Italia" and shout "Mucho Base" at the exit points - you NEED a base number(if you do not want to jump alone). try take a look at the italian section of the "base board". they do not use names. in this country, you need a number, otherwise they will not talk to you. even on the phone and sometimes at the exit point you are referred to by your number - BASE number, that is. so about 3 years after I finally got my B I applied for the number so I could go play with the boys around here. Ragazzi, #996 sta scherzando, non mi capire male, p.f.! Mucho BASE flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  3. Augustiner Helles (from Munich, Bavaria) Schneider Weisse (from Munich, Bavaria) Beck's Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (then nothing for a very long time) then other stuff in green bottles (i guess you call it imported over there...) this does only exclude "erdinger weissbier" which is the worst (wheat) beer that we produce in germany. their non-alcoholic drink - even though i do not consider it "beer" - is quite refreshing though... flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *

you missed it BIG TIME... she's the first one in the whole DVD, and she reappears in the first timer section for quite a while, hesitating a little bit at the exit. flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  6. Hi Chris, the major problem you will have is that most of the world (basically ALL of the world except Japan and the US) is applying the GSM-standard (GLOBAL Standard for Mobile communications: T-Mobile and cingular in the US are just building up nationwide networks, but because the size of the US and being about 15 years late, it's not finished yet.) http://www.gsmworld.com/index.shtml If you intend to leave the US, it's the best choice to have a tri-band (850, 1800 and 1900 MHz) GSM phone. From my own experience, it will serve you ALL over Europe, especially in the Alps, and all over Africa and Latin America. I know Russia and the Eastern European countries are covered, but international roaming there is VERY, and I mean VERY expensive. I had my phone with me when I came over in October for BD,and it worked fine in CO, not at all in WV and fine again in ID. So for the US, you better check with the operators whether you primary jumping/living/working area is covered. Basically, you can insert any SIM into any GSM phone, except if you get a highly sponsored plan from an operator that will give you a phone with a SIM-lock. There were already some hints on how to unlock it in this thread. All *new* GSM tribands will have SMS, most will have cameras nowadays (with differing quality) and most will also have the capability to send MMS (Voice, Foto/Video and Text combined). Now the EASE of switching SIMs and the resistance to outside conditions is somewhat on the two different ends of one stick: I have two "waterproof" outdoor phone (the Siemens ME45 and the Siemens M65, and YES) and opening both and changing the SIM is a hassle because of the tight closing mechanism and the rubber which seals the battery compartment from water. I am pretty happy with both, from battery duration to reception and from resitance to water and dust to robustness and shock resistance. The new generation outdoor phone is the ME75, but I have not tested it personally. Basically, with Voice-dialling or the call-repeat button or a quick-call button (new phone should have all three of these) you are well off for calling remote groundcrew or emergency services. (BTW, you can call the rescue with any GSM phone also WITHOUT a SIM or without international roaming, there just needs to be ANY GSM network). You should be able to manage the intensity of the display light, from low to very bright. "Very bright" has already served me as a "torch" hiking out from an exit when it got too dark to jump (and too dark to hike). It will provide enough light for a gearcheck when it's really dark. If you have more specific questions, you can PM me. flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *

You're right! I saw she had the PC in hand, but I did not see it was the "LEFT" hand... Hey Triax, could you - just for fun - post the picture the "RIGHT" way? Just started watching the DVD, "the cover girl" makes the first jump - "flipped" the right way, with the PC in the right hand... and the LZ also on the right flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *

    BD DVD Cover

Got mine today (but hey, for being in italy and thus having the italian post involved, that is still quite fast even considering it was mailed on dec. 17) Now when I look at the cover I remember the LZ being on the RIGHT (not on the LEFT, as on the cover). I was wondering if it had to do with being shot from the crane, boom, whatever, but that did not explain it. I tried to figure out if the jumper on the cover had probably done a full floater (ok highly unlikely with a PC-in-hand), but the relative position of head and feet and the positions of LZ and boat ramp tell me that's not it. Is this one of these cases of flipping the negative? flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  9. got this in one of these FW:FW:FW:FW:FW:FW-mails... the rest was crap, but this picture made me smile blue skies, flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  10. Objections, your honor! An "A" can NEVER be the safest object to jump (whether learning or not). Reason: c.p. (=under equal conditions: grassy, big LZ; no wind; same height) a Bridge will always be better because in case of a 180 (or something close to it) you will NOT have a solid object right in your face. Adam has recently made a strong case for this in his post about not throwing students off big walls, even overhanging ones. If I remembered where I read that I'd post the link... flummi flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  11. you don't? damn long post for "no need to explain yourself"... DUDE - THINK! Well, why would people put you on such a list and even after you ask being removed making a point of keeping you on there? I see only 2 possibilities: -you are an accident waiting to happen, they tried to tell you but you ain't listening. (now you seem to be listening, but you still are not getting the point). as a lot of others have already said: figure out what got you on that list. (hint: it's not that they want you for ST&A and it might NOT because they consider you the nicest person at the DZ.) -they don't want you there for another (any other) reason i cannot imagine anyone risking being sentenced for murder for a couple of bucks (especially because that person could have some money much easier by stealing your equipment and selling it). IF/WHEN you really think that someone is tampering with you equipment... it might be the point of talking to the DZO or changing DZs. look at it from an economical point of view: INVESTMENT: "someone" must be convinced that "investing" his (or her) $10 will earn him (or her) a return. this assumption must be grounded in a belief that you will have an accident sometime (sooner or later). the reason for an individual to invest this money is that you, or your equipment, provides him (...) with a reason to think so. ... which, in turn, should be a reason for you to do so. people are not talking about you being unsafe, they are betting their MONEY on it. UTILITY: someone receives $10 worth of pleasure of having you on that list and annoying you. (obviously, this is working quite well) I think the second one is WAY more realistic. So just relax, go to the organizer and bet $10 on yourself, add another ugly nickname to the first... and you will take all the fun awy from them. i want to close with the words of dennis miller (thanx for the line, dennis): Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. flummi flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
  12. with all due respect, NO for the existing 2 lists. he was neither a base jumper, nor did he die attempting to basejump. he did not even get to the attempt because he did not survive his skydive to begin with. nevertheless, for his spirit (wanting to basejump) and for educational purposes i think there should be references as "other base-related deaths" for him and the rocket guy. c-ya, flummi flummi * Respekt - ist uns're Aufgabe (fanta4) *
