  1. my EP is to deploy reserve and then cut away in this circumstance. I feel like a cut away first then deploy reserve the is a chance the risers from the main could if a cover has come off tangle with the reserve. I deploy the reserve, then when it is out cut away so if the main opens it can just "fall" off my back away from me as I have forward motion from the flying reserve I have had many discussions with people about this specific procedure, I believe both have good and bad points. I have chosen to do it with the cut away second. Just decide what you want to do and build that into your memory management/EP review process every jump and KNOW what to do in every situation, don't hesitate, especially with a pilot chute in tow, and do it. talk to your instructor, decide what you think is best and drill that into your memory/reaction
  2. Bill, is that $7,500 once you are in Moscow or $7,500 round trip from USA? Sounds like a real opportunity.
  3. I have been using my nano for 2-3 years, 4-500+ jumps when not team training/competing but find that I never hear it in freefall, yes it's loud enough to hear in the plane, and only start to notice it again once I am under canopy. I've noticed that as I come into land or if there are a lot of other canopies around and my focus is increased on those tasks I often "stop" hearing the music also. my 2 cents/experience
  4. Joe, this ain't POPs, you won't be the youngest there.....can you deal with that? LOL!!! see you at CSR, I'm heading to the AirSpeed camp so withdrew my application for TSR.....can't do it all! (ego assumes I would have been invited!) See you in January, be safe. Collin
  5. working at the dropzone gives you staff rates which often means that you can afford to jump....check it out before you think the offer is worthless, I think that's the attitude being commented on! Plus any work for money is better than no work I would have thought
  6. attached is 8-way exit from one of the 8-way teams training out of our Pac last year. Photo by Nick Armstrong, team Factory Defect out of SkyDance SkyDiving in David CA also for a better exit with a full plane; 14, 15 or 16, take out the bench on the left side of the plane, facing rear, you'll find you can stack it up a little tigher, keep the last 4-5 back until the "set" to help COG otherwise the "normal' 8-way exit - 5 out plus video and 3 inside all linked then stack up the rest in a 1 1/2 line when the bench is out.

  8. SkyDance in Northern CA does. Check their web site - http://www.skydanceskydiving.net/calendar.php the next one is in June!
  9. ...looking to fill the last few slots for the formation loads Friday, email me if you are interested. There are still a few events coming up if you want to come and find out if you like big ways... see you at the boogie!
  10. Bryon is the closest but I can't say I have "noticed" the bay when jumping there, but haven't been looking. At SkyDance it can be seen....but it is a long way off, on a clear day you can see the Golden Gate but not often due to the fog/smog. (which afffects all DZ's in the area) Bryon is definately your best bet if that is the main purpose of your trip. Check out Roy and Lany's web page and see if you can see if there are pictures that show potential - http://girlgiorgi.smugmug.com/ If you're coming the weekend of June 7th then we are holding scrambles that Saturday at SkyDance so come play if you want some fun FS.
  11. last time I spoke with Ray we'll have 2 PAC's and a Casa for the 60-way (15+15+32). Then I know there are jet(s) for fun rides but I've heard of nothing else, best way to find out for sure is to turn up and see! Blues Collin p.s. we are already almost full for the 60-way so if you're interested drop me a line so I can add you to the list
  12. I bought a program several years ago that was great but I moved computers and it's a WIN95 program and I'd love an upgrade. I tried sending an email to the person in the registration/help section and it bounced! I'm trying to track down Eric Bjorn who "owned" the program - Skydive Planner. Anyone know him or know how to contact him or know if the program is or was ever updated?....or is Eric on DZ.com? thanks Collin
  13. I'm a Brit now living in sunny CA and I started jumping in 1972 at Sibson near Peterbourgh jumping 182/180's! but one of the things that really got me hooked and hooked on FS was an 8mm movie a Brit called Robin Mills brought back fromn a trip to Arizona of 16/20 way color coded jumps. It was a rough cut and he played it to Pink Floyd's Wish you where here! I am trying to get some color coded jumps going at our DZ and would love to get my hands on a copy of the film or movie if the jumps it ever made it that far to show people to get them cranked up. If those jumps don't exist does anyone have any color coded jumps on video they would be willing to share? thanks Collin
  14. organizer for sure but then I love the base 40 or bigger depending on formation....no base no skydive. Late diver is fun but I found I had lots of time to set up. In the base formation you need to be fast and consistent and then fly the formation! having said that it's all different, hard and fun!
  15. stuck at home with rotator cuff surgery but was wondering how the Fusion 50/50 event is going at Perris? love to here and see a pic or two.....

  17. slightly off topic but ......from ACTUAL experience…back in 197X I was jumping a Cloud Lite and a 24ft navy conical in a wonderhog and had 5 malfunctions. 4 of them I chose to do a main-reserve transfer as the malfunctions where controllable but not landable – slow turns due to steering lines tangled or something like that or a line-over that was flying fairly straight but decent rate was to high to land, can’t remember exactly which, why and when. All I did was slow whatever turn was there as much as possible and pop the reserve, the Navy conical streamed out behind me due to the forward speed and as it opened the Cloud dove forward and I either cut it away or I do remember a couple of times waited until the Cloud actually deflated as there was no forward speed to keep it inflated and just pulled it up into a bundle and tucked it between my legs and dropped it about 20-30 feet off the ground. Steering “high performance” round reserves is pretty easy ands pretty good, back then with PC’s and other canopies like that, (Papillion’s rocked!), and accuracy was practiced if you didn’t score less than a meter total you needed, and where encouraged, to work at your canopy control! I have had several long conversations with people about the pro’s and con’s of going back to this configuration. I am still considering it, there are some powerful reasons why in my opinion.
  18. welcome to the world of organizing! keeping jumps you organize new/fresh and achievable are key points in my book. I have jumped with several people over the years that only know how to do 5 or 6 jumps and they stick to those and just add a flake or side body here or there as people come and go. one trick I have tried and it makes it fun and challenging for me is to pick a basic formation, star, compressed, diamonds, donuts, in-out, etc and make that formation the core part of jumps you design organize all day. Just that process will keep you going for 4-5 months without ever repeating anything and it works from 3 - 20+. use the overlap technique for odd numbers as was suggested earlier and you can doodle a 5 -6 jump day in minutes. creating a repository for people to put formation, sequences, whole jumps would be a great thing for people to refer to. Happy to send the bits I create/build if you ever get it started, just pick a format that we can all use without spending a fortune, I use MS powerpoint and PDF the pages to distribute at the DZ. have fun, send me an email if I can help Collin
  19. I can relate....you should see our year 1 and 2 blooper reels! I'll have to work out how to put ours up to show you what I mean.....it does get better I promise...see you in Chicago Collin IC Kaleidoscope
  20. check the times you CAN fly....the Silicon Valley tunnel has a pre-opening deal but you can only fly during the week and before 5pm, I think, maybe 6pm. one problem is they don't open until noon so that also restricts your time. It is still a great deal but check when you can use the time to make sure you and your team/friends can make it

Doug, how do we book time our coach is coming up from SoCal and if your open we'd like time? I've sent emails but have NO response and there is no telephone number listed to call....are you really going to be open or is it just rumor?????
  22. could be a possibility....what are dates & format of the 8-way competition?
  23. we have two intermediate teams training here at SkyDance....Kaleidoscope and friends will be back again and our new 4-way intermediate team Chakra4 is the core group of our second team. 4-way is our focus but there was enough interest for us to build two 8-way teams! it just for fun but looking forward to Chicago!
  24. JP, I'm sure someone will step up and drink your share! looking forward to jumping with you on the Friday....it will be alot of fun!
