grega, your concerns are well founded. Big ways are fantastic if planned well and the people are capable of performing well. I just got done doing 14,- 120 ways a month ago and it was the most fun and the most nervous I've ever been. The only reason I did them was because of the organizers whom I know are well respected and very very experinced in big formations. You have to trust your organizers and the people you jump with ( but that also goes back to the oranizers on who they select to jump on the load) or it can turn a fun situation into a deadly one. BE AWARE and do what the organizers say and if at any time you feel over your head step down.

You know I normaly just sit here and browse when I'm bored at work, seldom do I post, and I was really interested in the opinions posted on this thread.... Then I read that last post, WHAT A SELFISH ATTITUDE I COULD NOT BELIEVE HE ACTUALLY SAID IT OUT LOUD. I'm just glad freeflier dosen't jump at my DZ i wouldn't even get on the plane with him.. I'm done... Since I replied to the AAD thread I'll state my own opinion. I've owned one since i bought my first rig, I forget about it once it's on. I've had one cut away in 1150 jumps and I didn't think about it then. I have jumped without one a few time when I've borrowed a rig. It didn't really bother me. My 4 yr is coming up in Oct. So I'll have to decide then for sure. Ill probably jump it when the cypress is down who knows!!

Don't think I wuld do that it's hard to fly with your arms extended, not a natural position. Just take your time and finish your turn, with your spine straight
-
Why dosen't the other jumper take your grips? Is it because your sliding away, Or do you think it's because you haven't finished your turn. One of the bigest prolems with a back-in is, you do your head switch & don't finish your turn You have to keep your spine straight when your looking behind.. If it is a true problem of sliding out after you finish your turn then your turning and puting your legs out to much after you finish, but a true back-in is really just a 180 or 90 degree turn. Make sure before you commit to your turn know where the peson is your shooting to and know their set.

***I guess, the real crux of the pledge is..."I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands." Anything after that is fluff. *** Not totally true, I don't care one way or the other just real entertaining reading peoples thoughts. But how does the old version sound "One Nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all"

Ok that attachment didn't work let me just copy & Paste it!! ___________________________________________________ Dear Star Crest member, How many of you remember that it was the SCR awards that helped our sport evolve from mainly style and accuracy jumping to the era of RW? It wasn’t so long ago that we were treated as stepchildren by the USPA establishment. Only after we got the ball rolling did USPA jump on the bandwagon and allow RW into competition. Once USPA saw the Star Crest’s mass appeal, it came out with a watered down version (the Falcon/Eagle awards). If you haven’t heard much about the Star Crest awards in awhile, it's because we’re receiving very little publicity from the skydiving community. The magazines won’t print most of our press releases because they say they’re too commercial, or that no one is interested in Star Crest awards any more. And most DZ’s are too concerned with running a business to promote an award program not affiliated with USPA. As a result, some older members think we’ve gone under, and newer skydivers often don’t have a clue that Star Crest awards even exist. This form of censorship will eventually choke the Star Crest brotherhood to death, due to loss of income. Without it, we cannot afford to promote, innovate, advertise or expand. Keeping up with changing trends, we’ve added 3 new free style (vertical) awards. The new designs are complete, but we still need publicity to spread the word. With reduced income, we can’t afford to advertise the patches & decals to get these awards off the ground. This letter is a request for support from you and other Star Crest members, so that we can continue giving the newer jumpers the same meaningful goals to accomplish that we all had. We’re not asking for donations. We are asking that you help us purchase our new order of emblems and decals by buying some of the award items we have on hand that you’ve qualified for. Below is a list of store merchandise that we have readily in stock: Membership cards; SCR-SCS-NSCR-SCSA-NSCSA $2.50ea Award certificates; SCR-SCS-NSCR-SCSA-NSCSA- USA $3.50 ea Colored cotton number tag; SCR-SCS-NSCR-SCSA-NSCSA-USA $3.50 ea Decals; SCR-SCS $2.50 ea Embroidered emblems; SCR-SCS-NSCR-SCSA-NSCSA-USA $7.00 ea Sterling Silver SCR medallion; $30.00 ea Sterling Silver SCS medallion; $30.00 ea Sterling Silver chain w/lobster claw clasp $20.00 ea Star Crest Tee & Tank Top/Muscle shirts (printed 2 sides) $15.00 ea Long sleeve sweat shirts (printed 2 sides) $30.00 ea If you’re a fairly recent SC member and don’t need to replace any award items or buy something extra, we ask that you forward this request to all the SC members that you have in your e-mail address book. You may also want to visit our “under construction” web site at www.scr-awards.com. Thanks for your support. Bill Newell, SCR #3, SCS #69, NSCR #747, SCSA #11 Administrator, bbmsc@netzero.net

Just recieved this email and attachment from Bill Newell who is the administrator of the Scr program. He is the one who sends out the awards:Dear Star Crest member, "Attached is a message we would like to get to as many Star Crest members as possible. Since we have a limited amount of recipient's e-mail addresses, we request that you read this message and forward it to as many Star Crest members as possible. The attachment is safe. Comparing the invention of the internal combustion engine with playing God is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I 100 % agree with President Bush. Leave it alone. spend the money on reseach that will do some good. Not invent a race of perfect humans.

Derek, first of all I want to tell you publicly that I respect you, your instructing ability, your flying ability, your swooping & canopy ability, and you as a person!! But like Jessica said, see what this is leading to. Now people are thinking that other incident happened at Spaceland, jeez. I know you've been around along time and worked at many diffrent dz's. Has there ever been one that has had no animosity between some staff and the DZO? It's the DZO's way they feed there family, its a job, employee and boss relationship. Personality or business decisions are disagreed on all across the business world. So most of your posts are PERSONAL OPINIONS: 1st post " Rumor mill says it's because they don't fit the image he is trying to portray for SSL. Translation he dosen't need them anymore." Rumor is the key word there, translation is your personal OPINION No fact no truth!! 2nd post: "SSL is all about the $$$" Of Course SSL needs to make a profit. What business dosen't?? He has provided us a supreme DZ with expensive amenities. Does he try to make a profit with a disregard to safety? NO, As an experienced jumper there that is my opinion, I know of no accident there that has been caused by DZ unsafe practices. You posted in the same reply: " He probably found a way to make more $$$ of of food concessions" I think again, that is YOUR opinion. That I know factually is incorrect! I know nothing about the 300 lb student or your personal discussion about it. 3rd post: About gear pricing. How does pricing of gear come under any rules. If Walmart charges a dollar for an item and Kmart charges $1.50 what rule has been broken. I believe this is free enterprise. Remember buying gear from your DZ has it's advantages when your first starting. I have no info on what gear your qouting or what custom items it had. What he pays his riggers is his business. Remenber your DZ is a convenient place to get good advice and assembly from people you trust. 4th post: I'm going to condense now) hoop doing maintence, I have no facts to disagree but I will say I feel very safe about that aircraft and especially it's pilot. The TDM I dosen't work there any longer. And what he charges his staff who works for him and maybe makes 100 fun jumps a year vs the prices for an 8 way team making 4 to 5 hundred jumps is the DZO's business and his negotiations between himself, the staff, and the teams he wants to attract. I wonder what Airspeed pays!! I don't know about the Cessna pilot, but I think you are mistaken!! Again SSL does not compromise safety for $$$. This will be the last post I make on this thread, but I hope I made my point to everybody reading, since this is a public forum, that most of Hooks (Derek's) posts were only an opinion brought forth from a digruntled Ex-employee! Nothing personal Derek I meant what I said at the begining of this post. I consider myself a very conservative jumper with a great regard for safety and aircraft maintenance and I would never jump at a DZ I considered unsafe. Ask anybody that knows me!! THIS THREAD NEEDS TO DIE NOW!!!!!! Blue Skies Mike

I think you need to cool your jets Derek. whatever happened between you & Steve, I believe is between you and him and not really for discussion on this ng. For all of ya'all that don't know about skydive spaceland it is one of the safest best run DZ's I've been to. It is one first class operation. And for somebody to use this latest tragic accident as a slam against the dzo is in my opinion sick. Derek I think you need to let your personal issues UUUUHHH Personal. I've never had anything against you personally derek but this is a little overboard. How about everybody wishing scottie and tammi the best of luck in their new adventure and blue skies to them both! they will be missed but the only thing constant in life is change. Blue skies mike
