  1. Ow. My neck. Stop changing the subject so quickly.
  2. Who’s guessing? I’m glad you appropriately labeled Putin a warmonger though. Appeasing him to get him to stop being one is the same as handing the school bully your lunch money in hopes that he’ll stop bullying. The US killed far more with conventional weapons firebombing Tokyo btw, but if you want to discuss WW2 you should probably start a different thread.
  3. So Ukraine attacks infrastructure used by Russia to support their war effort and three people were killed. You call it a terrorist act. Russia (or Putin, as you rightly point out) attacks an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia, killing 17. You call it an escalation but not a terrorist act. Brilliant analysis.
  4. Actually I think the answer will be silence.
  5. How do you propose to end the war if it’s that simple?
  6. That target was as strategic as they get. That’s why it was attacked while a fuel train was crossing and not troop transports.
  7. https://www.newsweek.com/photos-evidence-russian-torture-room-ukraine-kharkiv-region-1748952?amp=1 Russian soldiers certainly seem to be poorly disciplined in battlefield tactics lately, but this has nothing to do with discipline. Definitely not a “win their hearts and minds” strategy.
  8. I’m not seeing both sides raping, looting or pillaging in this conflict. If the Ukrainians are doing it I’ve yet to see it reported. With each new bit of territory recaptured from the Russians, however, I’m seeing plenty of evidence of all of that and worse.
  9. Moore v Harper is the one to watch, likely decided after midterms. It could dramatically affect the 2024 election.
  10. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/u-s-warns-russia-of-catastrophic-consequences-if-it-uses-nukes-in-ukraine-11664141192?mod=home-page Other than that they will be catastrophic there’s no word publicly on what the consequences will be, but supposedly the Russians have already been made aware of what will come next.
  11. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_incredulity Maybe they just wanted to vote and go home and then go back to work the next day like I did. Hard to believe isn’t it?
  12. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/International/bodies-found-makeshift-burial-ukraine-show-signs-torture/story?id=90143457 if you’re a Ukrainian in “Russia” they cut your dick off.
  13. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/09/abortion-laws-pre-roe/671409/ Up until now they only wanted to go after the doctors. I shouldn’t be surprised they stepped it up. Apparently when many of the trigger laws that recently went into effect were passed, both pregnant women and doctors were trusted more than they are today.
  14. Those people who died in the heatwaves of the 1930s were idiots. They should have used their air conditioning like we do now.
  15. So that’s just the US? And it’s average maximum temperature, not average temperature?
  16. There’s a bit more to that story. Saturn’s moon titan was so worth a look that the decision was made to do a flyby with Voyager 1 and that meant that it could no longer continue on the same grand tour out to Uranus & Neptune as Voyager 2. In retrospect, I’m not sure it was worth it. Titan revealed few secrets on that flyby due to its thick, opaque atmosphere so Voyager 1 passed by and exited the solar system out of the top so to speak. Still, titan was definitely worth checking out and Cassini-Huygens did a good job with that a couple of decades later. Some JPL scientists worked on both missions and had to wait a long time to satisfy their curiosity.
  17. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna46746 That’s not how insurance companies down there see things.
  18. Nice. I wish California put forward something like this before they just mandated the switch to EVs. We needed this level of infrastructure investment years ago. I think we’re going in the right direction but I feel incentivizing works better than mandating.
  19. Fuck Putin. He deserves no off ramp. The best outcome would be for him to fall out of a hospital window, and for Nevalney to be released from prison and allowed to run in a fair election.
  20. Dang, thought I was at the goalposts. Where’d they go?
  21. Did you notice that your graph varies in temperature by about a degree over 2000 years while the one billvon posted varies by almost 2 degrees over only 170? Aren’t you the one always talking about natural variation?
  22. I don’t think I am. He knows what he’s doing and he’s good at it.
  23. Okay now I see. You can’t nail it down. Everyone says you move goal posts but I think you just make them infinitely wide for your team.
