https://www.npr.org/2020/06/14/876584284/fired-florida-data-scientist-launches-a-coronavirus-dashboard-of-her-own I wouldn't trust anything Florida did with numbers at this point. This article is a couple of weeks old but I caught an interview with said data scientist this morning that drew my attention to it.

A good example for whom? Rebublicans? They won't follow it even if you set one. Whether or not rank & file party members are die hard or not, this is the reality with the officials they have elected. More specifically it is the reality with the party's leadership. You're right, I absolutely do have a closed mind at present, but that is because it is made up. After what happened with Merrick Garland's SC nomination I knew there was no other way. The past four years have merely solidified that position.

What's the point in being anything but partisan this year, or from now on? Where does looking across the aisle get you with rebublicans? Dems could play nice and try to compromise all they want but republicans will still try to screw them over any chance they get. It's no longer about getting along but about winning. McConnell & Graham must know this, as it seems evident by their encouragement of older judges to step down before the end of Trump's first term so they can continue packing the courts. I will gladly cast my vote for Biden/LiMu Emu this fall.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect and the Bizarre World of Fake Martial Arts
murps2000 replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
I didn't get the impression that the OP meant Hollywood when starting this thread, and much of the content I have come across with regard to fake, or at best real but completely ineffective martial arts had nothing to do with movies. It's usually been more of that death touch or chi -channeling type of stuff, which definitely requires some faith on the part of one's opponent. Still, this video is in the same vein, and certainly a good example of belief vs reality. Pretty funny too if you catch the Gene Lebell story. -
The Dunning-Kruger Effect and the Bizarre World of Fake Martial Arts
murps2000 replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
Ah yes, the ancient art of bullshido. I've watched several videos exposing fake martial arts and many were pretty cringy. It's amazing how much effort and training can go into something that is completely at odds with reality. I think it speaks to the uncanny ability we humans have to convince ourselves of anything. If you want some entertainment check out Charlie Z, the underground boxing world champion. Thoughty2 is a pretty cool channel too. He did a video on global pandemics literally one month before the Covid outbreak. -
I sure hope astronomy students are forced to learn arabic star names as well. Globalism, yeah!

I voted yes, but I'm a commie globalist liberal so I am probably biased. Hilarious.

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998
murps2000 replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Say, you're right. The cross is also wrong on that book, the ruler has 21 inches, and the bird only has one wing. I really need to do a better job verifying my sources. Maybe I should just stick with vostok ice core data next time. -

It was in the 60s when I got home to Daly City. Therefore global warming is not real. -
A serious preponderance about Trump and Covid-19

I think ponderance would work better in the thread title. -
Cloud: Gutting the EPA Silver lining: Increased NASA budget. Still not worth the trade IMO.

Get your own drone and go air to air.

I agree she would be great in a debate though. So would Senator Klobuchar.

I'd rather see her as AG

WaPo: Wuhan Lab Allegedly Studying Bat Viruses in 2018

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-chinas-bat-woman-hunted-down-viruses-from-sars-to-the-new-coronavirus1/ Interesting read. -
I've grown to really like San Jose since moving to the bay area a decade ago but on average they're not looking as good as last year. Many new players this year so they are still working things out I guess, but their 3rd line seems to be showing some promise. At least they aren't getting my hopes up as high as they usually do before they choke in the playoffs again. Still, I hope they at least sneak into the first round. Playoff games are FUN to attend Hmm, 5pm pacific now, guess I'll go & see if they can actually do anything against the jets..

Ahh, disinformation back to haunt me. And it only took 7 years for someone to catch it. I think you're right about the wake tubulence ceated by an aircraft's wing when flying slowly, and consequently at a higher angle of attack. Which do you think would create more wake turbulence? A parachute in full flight, or in braked flight? Don't pilots slow their aircraft in turbulence so as not to have any random gusts add to their airspeed or load factor, and thereby possibly create the overstress situation? I never heard that they did it because it made dealing with the turbulence easier. If they could, would they not still want to proceed through the turbulent air mass as quickly as possible? Still, I think everyone else was right in this thread. The wing does create more turbulence. We can ignore the jumper.

Immune? Well since you're cornering me (as you should) I'll back pedal a little and say that I think it is far less prone. I should know by now not to speak in absolutes on these boards or about skydiving in general. As I've said, I think that a spandex pouch (particularly a new one) grips the pilot chute more tightly over it's entire length than a cordura pouch which only secures it with elastic at the mouth. I think this may have the potential to contribute to an improperly packed pilot chute bunching up during extraction. As I'm sure you've read by now, others may disagree. Another thing that I'll mention again, I know spandex wears out. I'm guessing I've got around 11-1200 jumps on my rig I'm still waiting for the cordura pouch or the elastic mouth to show any significant signs of wear.

Sounds like a sweet ride. I wonder how it would stack up swooping against a similar sized xf or katana. I wonder if it still turned as quickly as before, too. Get any impressions from the pilot?
-
As usual, most everything your saying is right on, but I think line trim may affect recovery arc as well, so it could have been designed in to some degree. I'd be curious what a stiletto with a steeper trimmed lineset would fly like. A snappy katana maybe?
