  1. If you really had no fear of death, would you still have the same instantaneous "PULL NOW!" reaction if you realised you were low? Are you playing by the same rules the rest of us are?
  2. Go home - your village is missing it's idiot.
  3. I own a ZP 155. It's got about 500 jumps on it, of which I've put on about 100, and I have no complaints. It opens firmly, but I've never had any slammers. The flare has always been very good. It feels a lot like the new ZP EXE 170 I flew - which is weird.
  4. How about: "sweet n sour stir-fly"
  5. That "..ough" one is weird. Enough (uff), Though (oh), through (ooh) thought (aw), and the one you mentioned, plough (ow) That's five different pronunciations of the same sequence of letters
  6. She said publicly that no tongues were involved and it was nothing romantic. I'm going to have to take her word for it. How did you say goodnight to your dad when you were a kid, kiss on the cheek? Ok, I haven't seen a video of it, but lets be reasonable here ... she's the only woman who would make me think twice about being unfaithful so she must be normal! Please somebody tell me you've seen this kiss, and it's all innocent! I feel so betrayed .. on the real topic - I think my position is clear - Citizen of the World -
  7. "After following prints believed to be from a yeti, the embarrased scientists finally caught up with the 'two-legged' beast that made them."
  8. I tend to agree with ya I don't have my pro rating, so cannot say if it's really safe to follow someone\someone's gear or not, off the DZ. I do remember though, being taught in a first-aid course, that you should never put yourself in danger to try and help someone else - you could just end up with two people in trouble .. waiting for no. 3 to show up and get help. With less than 150 jumps though (even if I was current), I'd land safely and get help.
  9. Don't these lines contradict each other? Here's my saved quote: "Homer: No Bart, if anything happens to me, you have to carry on the Simpson name. Bart: Screw that! When I'm old enough, I'm changing my name to "Joe Kickass"! Homer: That's SO cool!" I know, I've no culture

[uselesstrivia] I have a idea that the surfers who they first thought were the bankrobbers, were played by the red hot chili peppers. [/uselesstrivia]
  11. Try http://www.cheapflights.com they don't sell tickets, but are a good site to browse the going rates and get links to those who sell them.
  12. Some static lines, then .. Jeeesuuuus ..thousand.. there'snothingpullingoffmybackthistime ..thousand.. gotit!pulledit! ..thousand.. woooooohoooooooo.. ..thousand. - Citizen of the World -
  13. Thanks Peej! The terrorist bombings in Cape Town about five years ago made me leave ... The world changes very quickly! - Citizen of the World -
  14. Hi all I've been bad ... I started reading DZ.com years ago, not giving a thought to ever posting on here, but somehow after all the lurking, I've ended up posting a bit. Somehow I got into a habit of regularly reading the safety and training, gear and rigging and (somewhat morbidly) the incidents forums, trying to get as many points of view on various things as I could, and somehow missed the intros before I finally posted something! So my sincere apologies for being impolite, and not officially introducing myself sooner! Here goes ... I'm a South African living in London. I started jumping in '97 at Citrusdal via static line, but haven't been a very regular jumper since moving here almost five years ago. Somehow I keep current(ish) though, and have a few boogies planned for next year. Thanks for all the entertainment, and fantastically different and interesting points of view on a staggeringly wide variety of subjects, not to mention skydiving! So that's my verbose, belated 'hi!'
  15. We could possibly do this by resisting the instinct to reproduce ... most people think having kids is a good idea. Nobody's telling us it isn't. .. but would the economies hold up?
  16. In my opninion, this is a good development, although I am not Canadian (or American, or even European by birth). In effect, a law that DISallowed marriages between any couple that aren't male & female, has been removed, correct? A liberation. More freedom. Isn't that the buzzword these days? Therefore I'm happy for those that have more freedom wrt marriage now, but otherwise it doesn't really affect my life in anyway, and I'm guessing most of yours either. Therefore I couldn't condemn it, if I didn't agree with it.

  18. Turn the metal thing with your finger or thumb, counter-clockwise (I think), until it starts to whine a bit, then adjust it slowly it until it's making a nice loud beep. Take note of where it's pointing (there should be markings around the adjuster, and one on the adjuster), and then move it clockwise, one mark per 1000 feet I think. I seem to remember an LED that lights up when you get it 'zero'd too ...? .. or something like that
  19. Of course, you're right, sorry. It was a rather bad attempt at humour, and also off the topic. I assumed it was entered as more of a 'wish list' than his current used gear. I realise it could be taken as some sort of advice, which it most definitely isn't. Ignore my previous post.
  20. It isn't very different to your static line jumps, but look forward to it, it's a cool jump! I have to mention that from what I've read about the crossfire 2, it's probably not a good idea to be using the canopy in your profile, on your first freefall
  21. Hi I'm hoping to go to Locarno in Switzerland 27-30 May, and was wondering if anyone can recommend close accomodation, and the best way to get there? I guess Lugano is the closest airport with regular flights ... are there trains between Locarno and Lugano? Thanks in advance!
  22. Are there any dates given for when this takes effect? I'm guessing it's not enforced yet, or the bpa site (incl. http://www.bpa.org.uk/progression.htm )would be updated?
  23. ------- "...2500ft is my decision alti/hard deck where i'm no longer trying to fix anything and I'm either chopping or landing it. At 1000 ft if something is wrong with what's above my head I'm pulling silver, which should never be an issue b/c I'm chopping at 2500'..." ---------- I agree with the "Hard deck": 1000ft - if the canopy above me isn't good, go for silver without cutting away. Decision altitude: This to me is about 2200ft, but means something slightly different to yours. That is, if my main looks fixable, I will try once, very quickly, to fix it if I'm above 2200. I will not try to fix it all the way down to 2200, if I dumped at, say, 3500. If it's a bad spot, or something goes wrong with my reserve, I'd like to have cut away as high as possible. I'm thinking that the theory "If it's not controllable and landable, chop it" takes priority over "I can fix this main before my decision altitude, then I still have my reserve if I need it". Open to criticism.
  24. Sorry if I'm going over any old ground, I haven't read the original thread to which you refer ... To me, they're the same thing. I have a minimum altitude where, if I find myself needing to cutaway, I will still do it. I aim to never be in that situation though. Hard Deck? How about "Hard Time" perhaps? An instructor told me once: "If there's someting wrong, and you're still high, try to fix it ... but only once ... then go for the handles". If I am at, say, 3000ft, and realise there's a high-speed mal, I think "sort this ... NOW!". I don't think "I've got about six seconds/1200ft to fiddle here ...". In a situation like that, I only have one altitude, the highest one possible. No point using up any tolerance. It's there for the unexpected. Just another point of view. Hope I haven't opened a can of worms, or misread your post.
  25. I think their (Parachute systems) main dealer in the UK is http://www.dzsports.com/ - based at Hinton. Maddy and the crowd have always given me excellent service. http://www.parachutesystems.co.za/ site also lists Rob Colpus as a UK dealer. - Citizen of the World -
