Since I've had kids: 1) Melted crayons on my car seat 2) Coloring on the walls 3) Melted crayons in the dryer 4) Coloring on the walls 5) Fingerpaints - BIG huge mess maker. 6) The worst of all - scented markers. I'm now addicted to sniffing the orange and grape markers. Pretty soon, they won't be enough for me. I'll have to move on to sniffing Sharpies. Damn Crayola.... Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Downwind Landing vs. Low Turn
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As I've said before, I think there should be more emphasis on canopy control during the student training program. The "tools" should include knowing how to do flat turns and also knowing how to land your canopy downwind. Recently, at our DZ, our tetrahedron was stuck. Everyone was using it as a wind indicator and many people came in and landed downwind. The more experienced jumpers ran them out and a few people fell forward. There was dirty gear and bruised egos (I'm sure there were a few regular bruises as well). However, there were no serious injuries. I'm not recommending that we all run out and start landing downwind, and obviously if you have the skills to properly execute a flat turn - that is a better solution. Unfortunately, many newbies do not have much experience or practice with flat turns. I hope some newbies are reading this and they are learning something. There is so very valuable information in this thread. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

For today's poll, let's say that masturbating does not count. You can do that as often as you'd like, but you'd have to give up all sexual contact with others. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

....would you still do it? If for whatever reason, (and for the sake of argument) you just knew for fact, that you would die one day from a sex related accident, would you stop humping? You have no idea when or how you would go in, could be the next hump, could be 1000 from now. We all know the risks and accept them, with intent on being safe and not getting hurt or dying, but if you knew that sometime in the future it would mean your death, would it still be worth it? What if you have a family? Kids? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

Downwind Landing vs. Low Turn
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ironically, we are both scheduled to take Scott Miller's course on June 15th. I've had the course before and I'm looking forward to taking it again. I took it when I had 13 jumps and I immediately thought it(or a similar course) should be required before you get your license. Everyone spends an enormous amount of money on gear - they should be willing to spend a few dollars on getting some extra training. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

Downwind Landing vs. Low Turn
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
While skydiving in Mexico yesterday, one of my friends fractured his pelvis in two places. I spoke with him this morning. He was coming in downwind and decided to turn around. Basically, he was too low to make the turn. I am thankful that he is alive and that it's only his pelvis that is broken. Please people - learn from the mistakes of others. I don't have very many jumps, but it seems like it would have been far safer for him to land downwind and do a PLF. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -

jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in The Bonfire
I just got a call from a friend. He was injured today while skydiving in Mexico. He fractured his pelvis. I'm frantically trying to find a medical ambulance to get him from the hospital in Playa del carmen (60 miles from Cancun) to the US. So far, I've been quoted roughly $21,000 for this service. Does anyone know of a company that does medical transport from Mexico to the US for a reasonable amount of money? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...
