I reckon its a personal space thing. I used to be quite heavily into aikido and it does take some getting used to. How often are you that close to someone with that much contact?! (actually i don't know you so you don't have to answer that!!!) Give it time tho and you kind of forget about that when you start becoming more worried about how well you are doing and competition then you start forgetting about that sort of stuff. Oh yeah - just thought of something else. Sorbothane insoles rock http://www.lb-sorbothane.com/index_2.html I used to use these inside combat boots. Can make the world of difference if your feet are getting a punishing. the other thing, if you DO get a blister, compeed or second skin (or something similar) is amazing stuff. Ah thats cool - loads of time. Seiously i would just try and put the car away for a few months (of course you might have a 20+ mile commute ) I walk to work a couple of times a week which is a good hour. Means i have to get up early but i can walk along the seafront so its all good. Never try to eat more than you can lift -

Whats the weather like where you are going? If its dry i'd suggest getting fabric boots (sometimes called approach boots) as they need less wearing in than leather ones. loads of good manufacturers - personally i like karrimor, salomon and north face but that may vary stateside. But as you rightly said, its all about the fit and it depends on your foot shape - I cannot wear merrell because they just don't fit right. Good cause though - much respeck Never try to eat more than you can lift -

With a snowboard the feet can't go in opposite directions which CAN happen with skis (funny to watch until someone gets hurt!!!).... but like the previous person said, you increase the chance of other injuries...... Never try to eat more than you can lift
