i have one of those telezappers somewhere. when i lived in mississippi we would get calls about twice a day where nobody would be there when you answer. it seemed to work. now that i think about it, there seems to be some sort of delay when i answer the phone. i say "hello" twice before someone starts talking, so maybe it is a machine making dialing my number. no, i've never been successful asking for a supervisor. at&t owed me money for 8 months i made several calls a week during that time and it just so happened that every time i asked for a supervisor, they were at lunch, in a meeting, out sick, or on vacation. i've dealt with collections agencies before, and i'm guessing that they won't be any easier. since moving here and getting our phone number 2 1/2 years ago, we get constant phone calls from collections agencies for the same guy. sometimes i will go a week without any calls, and then get several calls a day for several days. i tried numerous times to explain that this is not his number and i don't know him, but they just keep calling and sometimes they get nasty. its always different people calling and different numbers show up on caller id. is there anything i can do? i started jumping as an e-4 in the navy. i learned to pack and used the money i made from it to jump. i did my 5th static line jump on my own pack job. go static line instead of aff, you don't have to come up with as much money per jump. get a cheap tent and sleep in it on the dz so you don't have to waste money on a hotel room. you'll be surprised at how many invites you get to crash on people's couches. every few trips to the dz, bite the bullet and bring a case of beer. you don't have to buy every weekend, many people have been where you are and will take care of you. don't think of purchases in terms of dollars, but in terms number of jumps. i've already got 2 airplanes. one pt-40 gas that i let someone fly once after i built it, and a twin otter electric. the otter is nearly ready to cover, but i haven't touched either of them in a few years. i don't even know where the nearest place i could fly, but i'll bet its at least a 90 minute drive, and its always too fucking windy here. at least with a car we could play with it in the driveway. for christmas we bought my son a tranformer remote control car. push a button on the remote and it tranforms from a car to a cool robot. press different buttons and the robot dances. you can hook an ipod up to it and it dances to your music. its a pretty cool robot, but it sucks as a remote control car. the major problem is that the door keep falling off and the front grill broke off within an hour of taking it out of the box. this thing cost $120, so i'm pretty unhappy about it breaking so quickly. i'm going to take it back to toys r us and use the money to get a real rc car for my son. i don't know anything about them. what should i look for? how much money am i about to spend? should i go gas or electric? if i go for an entry level rc car, am i going to be back to the hobby shop next week upgrading? an advice would be appreciated. dealing with the wind is just something that comes with experience. the more time you spend under canopy, the easier it is to figure out exactly what's happening and how to get where you want to go. one thing i did as a low time jumper and still do sometimes is pick out a long straight stretch on the wind line and shoot for the middle of it. this way you can come up short or overshoot and still be ok. you'll get there.
