  1. Thank's When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  2. Yes a Sigma cost more than a racer , same way a Mercedes cost more than a Lada. I have been examiner for them I know a bit about it. How many inst out there will chose a Racer if they have choice between that and a Sigma for their next tandem jump!!! When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  3. Oups Sorry not to be clear and late. DZ.com is a great site but I am not on it each week. My point was: with new high performance tandem main is it wise to let a tandem master having his passenger helping him on final and landing. I am jumping 370 Sigma main toggles pressure is a bit on the hard side specially with a huge passenger and on the other side it is a high performance canopy. To be more specific: Would you let your mom, or girl friend jumping that kind of canopy with an instructor not strong enough to flare by himself so he need her help to assist him for the landing. I hope that will repair all the mess I did When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.

  6. At my place I show all my inst to be as tight as possible. We always ask for help, when possible,so it is easyer and tighter. Sooner or later with loose laterals you will end up with problems... specialy with light passenger. When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  7. Normal procedure as soon as a TM open is to check the canopy, the traffic, the spot and the student comfort. To do that we ask him to sit back in the harness. This will definitly lower him in the harness. On Sygma harness the chest strap is fully adjustable. Some time depending on the shape of the passenger that chest strap might end up to high after the student sit back after opening. That's why TM next job should always be to check if the chest strap is O.K. ( specially on Sygma ) . If it is too close to the passenger neck , and it happen once in a while, TM don't have to play with the adjustments only to loosing it . This should part of the routine ... all the time. If you have the chest strap tight to your neck and the TM do a spin or two you will end up even lower in your harness with the conséquence you know. 8. 1. English is not my first language so I might do some mistakes here and there. 2. I agree with you in most of what you said. There is a lot of instructors out there who forgot that they are their for their students... not themself. Some of our custommer always want to go... because they don't realy know what it all means. But the instructor do know. As TME when I teach to new inst I always told them that when they will be back in the field nothing will be perfect. BUT they always have the right and the responsability to say NO. For an instructor working on small or medium DZ I think it is way better if the DZO is an active instructor. In some aspect skydiving is like any other business. As an owner if you don't teach your employes what to do and when, if you don't have strict and clear guides lines,if you don't over look at them to help and correct them, or if you don't do meetings to listen and encourage them ... you will eventualy loose your business. One of the biggest difference between other business and a DZ...you have to be able to do what you ask your instructor to do otherwise you have no cridibility.. so they don't listen. 9. Is there something on the net to help design our own airplane paint job? Like square one for our main. What is the best looking skydiving jump ship paint job you ever see? Do you have any pictures? When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  10. I think there is couples thinks in life that you can't change so you have to deal with. At 180 pounds I am O.K. as a TM but way too big to be a horse Jockey and way too small to apply for sumo !! For the same reason your frend doesn't fit ... in our sport. After over 2700 tandems jumps I realise that even a Sygma harness become uncomfortable for a passenger over 220-230 pounds. If they are not fit it is even worst. I also realise that more than 90% ( if it's not 95% ) of the people over 230 pounds are not fit. When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  11. I am examiner for RWS since 93. Keep everything simple. Threat your new inst like you always did with your first time passenger. Stay calm & make sure you know what you are saying, Those potentiel new instructors will look at you exactly the same way the first time tandem passenger are ... as an instructor. If you think you are nervus than think about them!It is not a bad idea to give your first course to only one person. If you are organize & well prepare you'll be waiting for your next course. If I can help I will be more than happy. Richard When you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous.
  12. I start dooing tandem in 85. Back then a 360 main (Hi lifter) was probably not as good, even on his first landing, as a Sygma 370 full zero P even after 2000 jumps. I think roughly that F 111 main are good for 1000 jumps. Zero P top skin main like the PD EZ 384 are good for 1500 jumps, and a full zero P canopy like PD Sygma 370 should last 2000 jumps. Even lines and control lines are more durable now than 5 years ago. Those numbers are good if you jump in a regular environement. The tripple S ( sand, salt & sun) can lower those numbers.
