  9. For the past 3 months, i have repeated my level 4 jump a total of four times!! (once because of recurrency). I was so not confident in my arch, and caused myself a mental block. This constant repeating was so discouraging, i almost thought that the sport might not be for me. I finally passed my level 4, but i still wasn't confident in my arch. Fast forward to yesterday. After spending a lot of time on the mushroom, talking to instructors, and learning to relax, my level 5 jump was SPECTACULAR. My instructor released me, and i didn't even notice! Then out of the corner of my eye i see him farther away than normal, and i think. "HOLY SHIT!! I'M DOING IT!!!" My instructor was so pleased and confident in my arch that instead of sticking by my side for the rest of the jump, he flew in front of me to give me a big grin and thumbs up. I was ECSTATIC!! The rest of the jump went awesome as I find myself to have no problems with the second half of my jumps ( it was always just that arch holding me back) This is just what i needed to get excited about this great sport again! WOOHOO!
  10. hey there coastie, i'm in the same boat you are. What i'd recommend doing is taking a step back from the sport for a bit ( say like 2 weeks ). Relax, and don't worry about it. If you've passed your level 5, you KNOW you can do it. I did my level 4 four times! ( repeated once because of recurrency ) and i wasn't confident at all in my arch. I took 2 weeks off, Went back to the DZ, talked to fred, talked to randy, practiced my body position on the mushroom. and learned to most of all RELAX. my level 5 went incredibly, randy was so confident in me when he released me, that he flew in front of me and we were laughing and giving thumbs up on the way down. It was the best feeling ever. So just take a step back, get some perspective, and relax. you got it in you. good luck.

  21. coming in for my landing on my AFF level 4 i noticed a tandem instructor on final about 50 feet above me. Since i was unsure about right of way (lower person has the right of way; but are tandems an exception?) i decided that i'll stick to my landing pattern versus risking a low turn. Incidentally the tandem master had to alter his flight plan. When we landed i learned the golden rule that if you're coming in from the right half of the field, land there; vice versa for the left half. tandem master was really cool about it telling me "don't worry, we've all been there" he complimented me on my accuracy and landing and then we headed for the bus. a bit embarrasing but just a reminder to all to KNOW the air traffic and landing patterns of your drop zone and any you visit.
