Slappie, Sorry your so busy today, we're headed to the DZ in about 30 minutes. Weather is supposed to be in the 60-70's with blue skys. I am doing a bunch of coach jumps today on my journey for my "A". Good luck with the paperwork Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

I am the oppisite, I am very aware of the ground cause I fall like a metor (133 MPH avg. Fall rate (but learning to slow down) but I love the canopy work, so far it has been my favorite part. My coach is pleased with my accuracy on landings (I guess all those years flying R/C aircraft was not a complete waste of time). There is alot of info in the forums like Skymamma said, you just gotta dig it out. Welcome to the forums and Blue Skys, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

My Quest to Become a Skydiver...
Feeblemind replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in Introductions and Greets
Sarah I can semi-feel your pain. I was going through AFF and took leave of my senses while on final for landing. I kept looking at a burm in a field I didn't want to land on. Like a moron I kept looking at it and flew right to it!!! Oh yea and the other half to the story was I forgot to flare and hit very hard. I have had 4 previous knee surgeries and the ol' flipper did not appreciate what I had just done to it and instantly doubled in size. Well, the next day was my graduation jump...what to do what to do?? Well off to the hospital I went to have almost 16 ounces of fluid pulled out of my knee. I took a mouth full of motrin and off to the DZ I went. I wrapped my knees, manifested with my instructor and got on the 3rd load after I arrived. Grad dive was kickass and I cleared AFF to student status. Knee has been sore for about 2 weeks now, but it's a friendly reminder of my new addiction. I wish you luck with your AFF and don't make the mistake I did "FLARE" Good Luck and let us know how you did. Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked -

Even though I didn't jump this weekend, it was GREAT!!
Feeblemind replied to Feeblemind's topic in The Bonfire
I know the topic sounds like an oxymoron, but this weekend was a family affair. My Daughter is a competitive cheerleader and this weekend was Nationals. The gym that she belongs to sweeped the competition and all teams not only took national champion but grand national champion in their divisions (there different types of teams per division). I missed the sky, but my head is in the clouds with joy for my daughter. Signed, One very proud Pops! -
Well Went to the DZ and was discussing this issue again with experienced jumpers. All the above possibilities were discussed. I brought up that I have had 4 knee operations on my left knee and my legs might be different sizes. Well off to the loft I went and low and behold my left thigh is 1 1/4" smaller than my right where the legs straps be. We didn't get a chance to test the theory cause mother nature is a bitch, not a skydiver Blue Skys and thanks for the help, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Well we'll know tomorrow if it's me or the canopy, your gonna jump it on my dime and see what happens. I reviewed the video on my AFF landings on the 260 triathalon and had no such turn. We might have to add some weight to your thimble ass though so you can match my manly stature or fat ass depends on the angle your looking from. See ya at the DZ around 1200 or so. Well before my last jump we checked the harness and the leg straps were even. The canopy is in trim as I said before it has been jumped by the DZ safety officer who is also a rigger. Maybe I am weighting or leaning to the left causing the turn. I hope to get to jump tomorrow and hopefully someone can video the landing to see if we can figure it out. Thanks for all the help. Just wondering if anyone has experienced a constant slight turn (in my case to the left) while under canopy. I thought the light wind was causing me to crab but that isn't it. There happened to be AFFI precorse jumps occuring while I was at the DZ so a number of experienced jumpers saw my landings (however from 250 yards, jumping in noob landing area) On approach I needed to imput 1/4 right brake to stay on headin and when I pulled full flare (both toggles equal I turned slightly to the left as I landed). At 4,000 feet I released all toggle pressure and it took me 15 seconds to make a 90 degree left turn without any toggle imput what so ever. The Chute is in trim (jumped by the safety officer at the DZ) so it's obviously me. Any ideas? I have left a message with my instructor, but he is very busy with rigging and I hate to keep bothering him. I am sure he will get back to me, but I thought I would toss it out here and see if anyone else has had a similiar experience. Thanks and Blue Skys, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

I just completed TAFF 2 weeks ago and I am now on student status. I found it very beneficial to do the Cat A/B in the tandem setting. Your instructor is on your back teaching you canopy control, flight characteristics and landing setup. I found that I was much more comfortable knowing the landing pattern and canopy operation before I made my 1st AFF jump. I was lucky enough to have one instructor throughout my AFF that video taped every AFF jump. The information obtained during the video debrief was a valuable learning tool to myself. I saved up and did the whole Taff progrerssion in a 10 day time span. For me it was the best choice so all the mistakes I had made and been educated on were fresh in my mind. I was pretty fortunate and only had to repeat 2 jumps and I attribute that in large part to the video debriefs as well as performing all AFF dives in the 10 day time frame. Good luck, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Use an Escrow company, done on e-bay all the time. He sends the money there you send the ite. Buyer either accepts pr rejects the item. If accepted the Cahiers check or money order (as good as cash, not a personal rubber check is sent to you). If buyer rejects the item and you do not recieve it (i.e. tracking numbers are important here, you get paid and he gets screwed). On all my on-line purchases over $400 I use an escrow service, if theydecline I tell them to piss off. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

In busy metropolitan fire departments we don't have Dalmations any longer. All the fire department staff are okay though. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Being a firefighter i have some days that are more intensive with paperwork than others. Well i was sniveling today on how much I had than this happened!!! Yes this fellar hit a fire station, but the response time to the scene was VERY fast It added 4 extra hours of paper!! Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Here are some that have been done previously at the fire department i work at (some years ago) 1) Take apart a filing cabniet and place raw fish and then reassemble with glue so it cannot be taken apart. 2) if he has a favorite plant, take it and mail it back a leaf at a time. (expensive, but a constant thorn in his ass). 3) Run an needle through a few electrical cords and clip the excess (every time item is plugged in it will trip the breaker) 4) if the handset for his telephone is black, goto the drugstore and get some betadine, carefully coat the handset. Even after it drys, when he uses it the betadine will release and hopefully he will put his hand on his shirt, hair or face. 5) A shaving cream bomb. use a can of cheap foam shaving cream. For the mechanism us a pull up ribbion. Take a poster thumbtack (the ones with the big platic end to push them in) Push the pin through the ribbon and then STRAIGHT into the bottom center of the can. Tape the can in a good location for deployment in a cabniet (chest high is usually the best) partially close the cabniet door and tape the other end of the "Ripcord" to the door) then close it completely. This one is great cause it leaves one hell of a mess!!! have fun Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Getting mauled by my dog when i come throught the door (doesn't matter if it has been 1 hour or 5 days, he doesn't own a watch). Also, being group hugged by my two kids when i come through the door (especially after a 72 shift, those huhs are awesome). Like the other fellar said "totally unconditional love" Blue Skys Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

Don't feel bad, I screwed up mine and I wasn't sick at all!! We pitched put of the plane at 13k and all was awesome!! I get the thumbs up and I do my three practice touches, I follow the dive flow and do the two 360's (YeeHaw this is bitchin') I get the check altitude sign (yep, passing through 5,500 DAMN this is fun!!) next I see the altitude signal again and him pointing his index finger at it (Hey I looked at that a second ago, I am having fun whats the deal?) Snatch! up we go. Well needless to say I was having so much fun (with my head in my ass) I would have grinned to my self to death or at the minimum a cypress fire. Lucky for me all I had to do was repeat the dive. See your not the only one!!! Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

QuoteWhile you can't jump due to the weather, ask someone at the dz to teach you to pack and then spend all day practising. Well thats what I did all day yester day and I strongly reccomend it. I just finished AFF and got permission to go to the DZ frm the wife ALL DAY yesterday. I was quite jazzed, I had a pocked full of cash and was looking at blue skys. Well the DZ is a 45 minute drive and mother nature kicked me in the privates!! By the time I got there the ceiling was 6,000 with occassional fog at 500. Several of the DZ packers were there and I asked Frank if he would show me how to pack? He said sure and we were off to the races. I spent all day learning to pack and gave frank some cash for his time. So since you are having the same bad weather n So. Cal. I can only suggest you do the same.
