I was seven years old when this accident occured and had been going to Parkman for almost a year. (badgering my parens to take me), and had actually known some of the jumpers. I remember the somber tone over the drop zone when I went to watch the following weekend and how empty it seemed. Nine years later I was hanging off the strut of Dale's C-180 after taking the FCJ taught by Lou (Lucinda)

I used to jump with a jumper by the name of David Layne while I lived in Alabama. That's not you is it? -
Yeah, Bill Moran owned it until his death in a T-28 (?) crash. Hell of a guy!

Daydreaming about a (former) NorCal DZ
racerman replied to Elisha's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I never did jump at Paradise but I did jump at Corning. Dave and Carol Rudolph ran the drop zone and it was best known fro the Chico Freako Follies. I still have the T-shirt! -
Does anyone have a current address for the SCR/SCS awards? The one on the form, 3418 Mona Way, was returned as "Not at this Address". Thanks! Blue Skies!!

I was on two of the DC-3 loads that this "crew" flew and it'll be the last time I jump with them. The first time it was obvious that they didn't have much experience flying jumpers by the terminology they used when explaining how to load the airplane. The spots were horrendous! On load number one I was in the second group to exit and decided to stick my head out the door and check the spot. We were still 2 miles out when someone in the front of the plane started shouting go while I'm shouting no.On the second DC-3 load the "pilot" decided to takeoff with a quartering tailwind. No big problem with lots of runway and you LOCK THE TAIL WHEEL!!!! As we proceeded to fishtail down the runway I could see the concrete, the asphalt and finally the grass pass under the wing joint! I guess ignorance is bliss as I was probably one of the few on that load who knew how close we came to groundlooping. I have a "few" jumps from Bill Dauses' DC-3 so I do have a point of reference.

Old Gear-Old Brain. Anyone remember Dual Pilot Chutes?
racerman replied to maggott's topic in Gear and Rigging
AFTER DUSTING THE COBWEBS OUT OF MY BRAIN I REMEMBERED THAT I HAD DUAL PILOT CHUTES (MA-1A) ON MY SLEEVED PC BEFORE CHANGING TO A BAG AND A GRABBER PILOT CHUTE. BOTH MA-1A'S WERE ATTACHED TO THE SAME BRIDLE LOOP WITH A LARKS HEAD KNOT. PAGE 285 OF THE PARACHUTE MANUAL VOL 1 WILL SHOW YA SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS -

Whats the coolest aircraft to jump out of?
racerman replied to packing_jarrett's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteWithout a doubt it has to be the B-17! Watching the ground go by as the bomb bay doors open is a rush, not to mention the sights, sounds and smells. I still have the smile on my face from the jump
