How far do you drive to the DZ each weekend??
superwoman8433 replied to partyboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
3 1/2 to 4 hours one way, but I am 45 min. from a cessna DZ only open on the weekends, I trade the drive for the number of jumps I can get in. -
First off, you shouldn't use price as a basis to pick where you learn to skydive. I did that and ended up paying way more than the intial fee. You get what you pay for. I may be wrong, anyone feel free to correct me, but I believe Lodi does AFF with one instructor the entire training. Whereas the uspa program, you would have 2 instructors for your first 3 jumps. Lodi is a non-uspa dropzone. They don't have to comply with the rules that uspa dz's do. Have you factored in the cost to go to one of these places, instead of doing it local? Also, if you don't do your AFF all within a certain amount of time you will have to do refresher jumps. Which will cost more money. I know Skydive the Farm has a program for something like $1600 or so for your jumps up to an a license. But it is right outside of Atlanta. Last but not least, you have to consider how much all the gear costs will be once you get through AFF. If you don't jump much after your AFF you will have to do a refresher. $$$ You have to do AT LEAST 1 jump every 30 days. This is a sport that will take up time and for me was a lifestyle change because now most of my good friends are skydivers because you will find if you fall in love with the sport, you will spend A LOT, if not all, of your free time jumping.

Did you do your 1st AFF jump last weekend?? If you did, I was the one sitting next to you on the skyvan. All I can say is what everyone else has said. Hang in there!! It took me 3 months to get through AFF. I got sick for my first 20 or so jumps because I would overthink EVERYTHING. Remember you are doing this because its fun. I was still in a slow spin on my 4th jump and repeated I don't know how many levels. But I love the sport now!!! A tunnel is really a good idea, but I wouldn't be to hard on yourself. You have only had 3 jumps. IMO you are being over critical of yourself. Some people it takes a little longer to grasp everything, but know that you will grasp it. Work on your arch while your watching tv. Put your feet up on the couch and a pillow under your pelvis and by just doing this, it creates muscle memory. Trust me.....you will get the hang of it and will love it, hang in there!!!!!!!!

The cost of assembling my new gear.
superwoman8433 replied to skytramp2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'll put your rig together for that. Next time, just ask a more experienced jumper to help and bring beer and treats and you will find that many people will be willing to help you. Sorry you had to find out the hard way!! -
Question about AFF training
superwoman8433 replied to FallloutboyDAoC's topic in Safety and Training
I would first say slow down. When I worked as a manifest, we had 2 people out of about 30 that did it in less than 3 days. Skydiving is a sport that can be amazing and extremely dangerous for you and others if you don't get proper training and understand everything you are taught. Even after you are done with AFF your learning shouldn't stop there, you still should take a canopy course and coaching. One thing about skydiving is never rush ANYTHING! edited to add: Get a SIM (Skydiver Information Manual) and look at all the tasks you must accomplish in those 7 jumps...it can be alot if put into 2 days. -
A Licence Grad.. advice por favor?
superwoman8433 replied to kalaniwavo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Have you ever ventured to the PISC deck?? I am sure if you bought Guru some beer and provided him with a camara, considering his current condition, he might be willing to help. I know it goes against everything out there, but wander over to PISC. There are lots of experienced jumpers there. I did part of my AFF at skydive Hawaii, just take beer and your golden!! -
High WLs, Low Experience.. Where Are the S&TAs?
superwoman8433 replied to MagicGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It is funny how everyone is discussing a topic that doesn't have an answer to it. Yes, the S&TA is there but as someone posted eariler, they don't always get the last word. I, myself, am in that range that a few of you are saying cause the most canopy collisions and I would like to see data on that. I have lost several people since I have been in the sport and almost all of them that went in under canopy had 1000+ jumps. I have been in the sport December of 2004. I consider myself a newbie by the sport, but think I am well ahead of the average skydiver because I live with someone who has been in the sport 19 years and has over 12,000+ jumps and still actively swoops, skydives, and does AFF. I have learned a lot from him. IMO, someone shouldn't downsize until the canopy that they are on is holding them back. For example, I was on a 170 until about jump 200. I weigh 150 out the door. Yes, that is a student wing loading, but you know what?? I could land the canopy where I wanted. As my jump numbers went up, so did my experience. You can't judge a person on if they are standing their landings up (they are ready to downsize..sorry but NO) I stood up probably 50% of my landings on my 170, where I have stood up 99% of my landings on my 150. My canopy was holding me back and not allowing me to access my flight skills because of the size. I learned to fly on a boat and perfected my skills and then downsized. One thing is certain.....Experience is everything. If I was on a smaller canopy, I damn sure should know how to fly it and what to do in every possible situation that could go wrong because it happens A LOT FASTER under a small canopy -

Its in California -
because even though I have the #'s and requirements for a c license, I have never sent the info. in and paid for a license. Since I use to jump at a non uspa dz I didn't see the need to pay for the licenses. I am cheap and when I hit 500 I will get my a,b,c, and d at the same time. The 6 digit c license number is my uspa number.

I jump in Deland and am ALWAYS looking for someone to jump with!!!

I FINALLY got back in the air after 3 months!! Have I ever told anyone how much I HATE working when I could be skydiving!!!! I was able to jump one day finally and did 6 jumps. 4 skyvan, 1 otter, and 1 pac jump. I was so excited sat. night I didn't even sleep. I miss being in the air!

I believe that would be Travis

I will consider myself a wuffo even when I have 1000+ jumps. My boyfriend (Kevin Love) has over 12,000+ jumps and one thing I have learned is I will always be learning in this sport. As long as I don't get comfortable and am aware of EVERYTHING in the air there is something to learn on every jump. I learned yesterday when I was jumping at Deland, many people don't pay attention to anyone but themselves when they are in the air. Which prompted me to land with the students because the "experienced" jumpers were landing every which way possible. No matter how many jumps someone has, even the ones with 1000's, people tend to get comfortable and don't pay attention.

YEAHHHHH!! I am a fucking right wing wuffo fucknugget, that doesn't want to pay more taxes to support welfare, war, illegals hospital bills, and bail out the people who should have never been financed in the first place, GO AFTER THE PEOPLE THAT STARTED THE WHOLE THING.....BANKS!!! Oh, I also would like to stop paying for everyone else to have healthcare EXCEPT the US!!!!! I can't get meds free or even at a reasonable cost but everyone in Africa can. Just because someone is right wing, doesn't mean they support Bush. Right wing supports individual success and believes that one should be rewarded on how hard they work. If I work 70 hours a week and make 6 figures then damnit I EARNED it!! I sure as hell don't want someone coming in and saying that I should bail out people who are having hard times. When I had hard times, I got out and got 2 jobs. Just my two cents, if anyone wants to listen

HOA contracts - what to do with them when buying
superwoman8433 replied to tetra316's topic in The Bonfire
You are going to be hard pressed to find a condo/townhome that doesn't have HOA. The HOA should be used for all the common area, maintence on property, etc. One question you should ask is who runs the HOA? Is it the owners themselves or is it the developer? I work for a developer and one thing you have to be careful with is that a lot of the time if the developer is still involved in the community, the fees will be lower because they contribute to the fund. When they leave it is all turned over and often you see the fees go up. Ask if there is a cap on how much the fees can go up? If there isn't, that should be a red flag. All the communities I have sold and bought in have had a cap on the amount in which the HOA can go up. Other than that, IMO HOAs can be great because its shit you don't have to maintain. Its done for you. -
