You haven't jumped in 3 years and you want to add complication to your jumps. I'd be more concerned with getting back in the groove of jumping instead of worrying about cameras. While you are getting some jumps under your belt, take that time to ask other jumpers that are flying a camera about their gear. Not knowing the simplest of information (riser slaps on sidemount cameras) indicates that you are not ready to jump a camera. This is one situation where not knowing gear and the associated safety issues can KILL you. Read about what piisfish went through. He learned a lot about his gear on just one jump. But Jeannie, the big difference is that you actually use that big fucking truck as it was intended. It FREQUENTLY hauls a camper around, offroad, maybe pulling a boat or trailer. That's what they are made for. I have no issues when those land boats get used as intended. I just laugh my ass off seeing a lifted truck that has never seen anything other than concrete under the tires for fear of messing up the wax job protecting the custom paint job. I hear this alot to justify buying a HUGE land boat. And they pull said boat/camper/trailer a couple times a year. Yep, that makes it worth it. Not bad. Some suggestions. If the top surface is flat enough, use a single piece of piano hinge. It is stronger and requires fewer fasteners. Look into using truss head screws to attach the hinge with the head in the box and the nut on the outside, they will fit easily. Or use pop rivets. I've considered building my own box, but the total hours spent is worth more to me then the $ to buy one. Building a Wes CCM is a different story though. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. When I go to my SO, I am looking for an opinion, not a sounding board. When someone came to me, it was my nature to try and help them fix what their issue was. What Dave said plus being able to remember what you saw during the jump and relating it in a constructive way to help the student improve. I found the prejump instruction and post jump debrief are the hardest things to master. Just takes practice. I've been lucky to have good instructors to emulate.
