  1. Off topic, but we still have jumpmasters here ...(maybe they do in Australia too?) Indeed we do still have them in Aust.
  2. I knew canopies and containers would vary a great deal, however I think the idea definitely has merit for other gear like alti's, helmets, goggles, etc. Those things which prices aren't going to fluctuate too greatly due to colours and size. Thanks for raising the point tho Phree
  3. On this site I saw what I think would be a great idea for the gear reviews here... When someone reviews a piece of equipment, they can enter the price that they paid for the item (in USD, us Aussies and everyone else can work out the conversions) or leave it as not indicated, and under the main description of the item it should give an average price that people paid for that item. (example here) I believe this would be a valuable addition to the system, allowing people to get a ballpark figure of how much they could expect to pay for a similar item. I know I found it very handy at the site i'm referencing from. Would anyone care to comment on this? Approve or disapprove?
  4. 0:1:0 AFF 5... First jump from the Skyvan! Wanted to do AFF 6 but wind picked up
  5. Thanks all for the input! I especially found billvon's comment about "body steering immediately upon sensing a change in direction of the canopy" particularly interesting. I'm not sure what you mean by this... Would you mind elaborating for a beginner eager to learn?
  6. I had my first linetwists on wednesday, due to dropping a shoulder as I deployed on my stage 3 AFF no doubt. I looked up to check my canopy and was basically watching my twists happen, so I grabbed the risers, trying to pull them apart and kick my way out of the 4 or 5 that were developing, unsuccessfully. Once I had stopped spinning I kicked out of them pretty quickly, but I was wondering if there's some way to stop the twisting once you realise its occurring! Thanks!
  7. I'll do any CSS/XHTML you need. I do it all day, every day

Me too! 1600x1200 or 1280x1024 shots would be great!

He asked "what is the height of the tallest cliff".... He didn't ask for the name of the cliff!
  10. We do it cuz it's the smallest unit to the largest unit. Just a logical progression... Like the metric system! Edit: And yeah, over hear I tend to hear/use "11th of December" than "December 11".

I stand corrected! You learn something new every day!

It wasn't their first jump, but I believe they underestimated how thin the air was going to be at that altitude which is what resulted in the tumbling. (seeing as noone had made a zero speed exit from that altitude before I guess)
  13. New article in the Sydney Morning Herald stating that the park isn't issuing a fine, and to do with the cost of the accident (which is something being discussed on the OZ accident thread). Also mentions legislation and that possible certain spots may be considered suitable... or something like that, read on
  14. No zoom, but a great lens is the Canon 50mm f/1.8. Great for everday stuff, pretty damn good in low light, and cheap (no more than US$100I think). This is the must-have lens for DRebel owners in my opinion.
  15. National anti-Parachutist Service
  16. Hahah i'm already set on it, too late for that! This weekend is it!
  17. Oh, and make sure you clean the jewellery BEFORE you rotate it! Otherwise you're just dragging junk through the hole.
  18. Saltwater soaks every day. Wash it thoroughly with an antibacterial soap in the shower (every day as well). Another thing you can do is after your shower, get some tea tree oil on a cotton tip and put a bit on the jewellery around the piercing which will fight off some of the nasties. Take a look here for a guide on taking care of your ears (its a lobe stretching FAQ but it still applies): http://onetribe.nu/catalog/stretching.php My ears were a little sore for a while when i got em done but now they're all good and healed. (took a couple of months)
  19. Vegemite rocks! I have it nearly every morning, love it! Lamb brains is the worst
  20. Thanks everyone for the advice! Looks like i'll be doing some stretching! I've done a fair bit of martial arts too so I've done lots of breathing exercises and techniques. Again, thanks
  21. In under 2 weeks I'll be undertaking my AFF level 1 course and the dive the day after. Is there anything I can be doing to help prepare myself for the course and my first jump (physically, mentally, etc)? In case it helps, I'm 6'3, 75kg (165 pounds), fairly athletically built, but not especially flexible (how many guys are I guess!). Thanks
  22. Dude, you hit the nail on the head with that post. Spot on.
  23. that's exactly what I and a few others have been saying from time to time on here. (edited to add: Consider that not even Pope John Paul II himself had a problem with evolution.) What's ironic is that the fundamentalist Christians and the fundamentalist atheists (yes, they're out there, and on this forum sometimes) have come to the same conclusion: That one (science or religion) contradicts & entirely displaces the other: you gotta believe in ONLY one and REJECT the other! Some may not have a problem with God using creation, but Christians should. If you're a Christian "Theistic Evolution" basically blows away all biblical authority, on which Christianity is founded. Most Roman Catcholics (like the pope) wouldn't have a problem with it because they've been adding stuff to the bible for hundreds of years anyway....
