An excuse to get drunk, go out to bars and look at chicks dressed in next to nothing, see lots of cool costumes, and hang out with friends. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

Congrats on earning your A license Jean. Good job. If you were anywhere near as exited as when you graduated AFF, I'm sure the whole DZ knew it right away

Happy 40th Phil. I had no idea you were that old. I wouldn't have guessed more than mid 30s.

What's the worst injury you've had as a result of drinking?
brianfry713 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in The Bonfire
I cut through half of my thumb once cutting a lime for a Corona. I also got a handle of Sky Vodka smashed over my head by some punk requiring a few staples. I fell off a houseboat onto a rail and got a nice cut on my face. I usually wake up with a few scrapes and bruises that I can't remember getting. I'm sure there's more. Anybody hear about a tunnel opening in Union City, CA soon

Here's the email newsletter I got today, you can sign up for it here: Hello everyone! It's been a long road, but we're exstatic to inform you all that construction is in progress! As of August 8, 2006, the official groundbreaking, preparations are underway to begin excavation, followed by the foundation work. Much of the tunnel equipment has been manufactured and will be shipped as soon as we are ready. As with any project of this magnitude, delays are inevitable. That being said, our new scheduled opening is slated for April 2007. Of course, we at SkyVenture Silicon Valley are as excited as anyone to greet our first customers, and are pushing hard to deliver on time. We're keeping the web site up to date with global SkyVenture news stories and will continually provide updates on our construction progress. Also, please check out our new gallery for construction photos. Finally, for those that haven't seen our new tunnel animation, visit it here (flash required). For those of you interested in positions at SkyVenture, we'll continue to keep your names on a special email list, and will be notifying you all when we are ready to begin accepting resumes. Thanks for your continued interest in SkyVenture! BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative -
What time of day do you like best for skydiving?

Sunset load because all the work jumps are done, there are more people to jump with, something big usually gets organized, and there's a waiting in the LZ. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative -

I voted more. I have 2 that I watch at the same time in the living room. Sometimes I'll get out a third TV and put it there if I need to. There's 2 more upstairs, and probably at least one more in the garage. I thought Jano's article about Jimmy's video was good. If you want to see how he capitalized on Gillian's post look in this thread. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2446044 And then see this article http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/crocs-fear-and-feelings-of-guilt/2006/09/26/1159036523862.html?page=fullpage

Funniest / most embarrassing first jump reaction
brianfry713 replied to pilatus_p's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dude, 99% chance of dying, wearing a PEP? I think even an untrained person has better odds than that. Lots of non-skydiver pilots have survived bailing out of disabled aircraft. The mortality rate for those that bail out is much lower than 99%. If the plane is going down, quickly weigh your odds of jumping, pulling a ripcord, and landing a round without killing yourself versus crashing in a metal coffin. I did a half of a hang glider ride and a low altitude skydive a little while ago. I had on my BASE rig and a friend has a tandem hang glider and boat to tow launch it. I wore a climbing harness and hung upside down facing the glider. A riser was hooked up from the climbing harness to the glider with an extra safety attachment that I took off above 1000'. We got up to about 2000' and then released from the tow rope, flew around a little bit under the glider, and then I pulled the riser release cable at about 1500'. I was in freefall for 4 seconds on my back, waved goodbye to my hang glider and pilot, flipped over and pulled. Due to some tow rope difficulties and me not really knowing what was going on, I ended up cutting away from the glider in the middle of the lake, so I didn't have much of a choice except to land in the water. Fun stuff, good times. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

I guess it's possible, but unlikely. That's only 60,000 one minute skydives, or 20,000 three minute wingsuit jumps. Or maybe he just has lots of tunnel time. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

That it not correct. The FARs state seatbelts must be worn during taxi, takeoff, and landing. Doors are not required to be closed, and certain aircraft have an open cabin and don't even have doors. I agree that having the door closed during takeoff is good procedure, and should be kept closed until at least 1000' after all seatbelts are removed.
