  1. I'm a current skydiver. If I'm not on a BASE vacation, then I'm usually skydiving or skiing. Skydiving is fun, BASE is more of a rush. I think it's good to stay current in both.
  2. I've only been there once, a while ago. I haven't done the climb out, but the hike to the bend in the road just above the park takes around 15-20 minutes at an easy pace if I remember correctly, and it's mostly level. I had a friend drive the car there to pick us up and take us back to the top. If the boat is running, it's quicker and you get to ride back to the park.
  3. The rigger at my DZ said something like, while they were PRO packing tandems, the most common mal was a lineover. Now they switched to flat packing, and the cutaway rate is about the same, but they're usually tension knots.
  4. Care to explain how and what exactly you injured? As far as this thread goes, I like the Sabre 2 better than the Safire 2 or Pilot for swooping or learning to swoop.
  5. I was arrested for a DUI around 3 years ago. I was right at the legal limit of .08 BAC in CA. I spent the night in jail, hired a lawyer, and did the 6 weeks of drug classes. It was reduced to a wet & reckless, and I kept my drivers license. I've been a student pilot for a few months now, and I was able to get a 3rd class medical. On the form they ask you for any medical conditions and all previous driving convictions. I was hassled a little bit for it, but the AME basically just asked me if I drank everyday and out of control, and checked with the FAA if I was okay to fly. I think as long as it was over a year ago you should be fine. I also think if you get one while you hold a medical certificate, you may lose your medical for a year. If you're concerned about it, you can always get your medical before you start taking flying lessons. You'll need to get one soon before you solo anyway. My instructor recommended I just go straight for a 2nd or 1st class medical if I ever wanted to fly commercially or get an ATP, but I just got a 3rd class for now. At least that way you know ahead of time if you'll have any problems with your medical. Of course, getting a job, and getting insurance are separate issues, but you should be fine renting planes. I don't think I mentioned the DUI to the flight school. Check this out: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ash/ash_programs/investigations/airmen_duidwi/ Have fun.
  6. The joke about Stewie getting all his material from The Onion in Family Guy last Sunday was pretty funny.
  7. I've been with the same company for 5+ years. In that time, I've switched cubes at least 4 times, and worked in 2 different buildings. We used to have 8x10 cubes, but they switched to 8x8 so they could cram more people into the building. We also got bought out by a larger company a few years ago, so now we still do the same job, as a subdivision of that company. I can also totally relate to losing all my games and web surfing sites when my CPU crashes. There are a few good looking people here, but they're definitely in the minority. I almost never buy any food besides dinner after work, since we have free cereal, oatmeal, and sometimes soups, and leftovers from meetings. There are also vending machines that used to be free, but now cost a quarter after we got bought out. It's funny that most people complained a lot about that, but the buyout caused the stock price to soar and our 401k is a lot better. I also have trouble meeting deadlines.

  10. The BD launch point isn't over the top of the steel arch, it's over the center of the river, where the steel goes down a little further. BASE 1224, Senior Parachute Rigger, CPL ASEL IA, AGI, IGI USPA Coach & UPT Tandem Instructor, PRO, Altimaster Field Support Representative

  15. As an expert skiier, I had more fun riding at Breckenridge. As a first timer, it probably doesn't matter as much where you go, as most places have a descent bunny hill section and lesson/rental package. 21. Skydance Skydiving in Davis, CA does 1-2 weekends of civilian 30k jumps every year. http://www.skydance.net/sd/highj.htm Also some are done at the World Freefall Convention. http://www.freefall.com/aircraft.php They'll even do tandems (for a mere $3,495 US), night jumps ($30 extra), and dogs. http://halojumper.com/index.html I think the typical opening altitude is normally below around 5k, otherwise it would be a HAHO.
