  1. I went through this same thing just about two months ago. I was flying a Safire 169 (is actually closer to a Sabre 150) doing 90° front risers landing for the last 120 jumps. I now have a Crossfire 2 130 and love it. I know that a lot of people will find this kind of jumps way too aggressive but after talking to the S & TA along with several others they felt for me this would be an ok change. I have a lot of learning to do to master this Crossfire 2 but I do not regret making the choice I have. I find the hardest thing to really get use to is harness input. It has taken me a few jumps to stop adding extra-unwanted harness inputs when landing and I still occasionally find some being added anyway. Oh my exit weight is 225 lbs. so I am wing loading at 1.73 to 1. Whatever choice you make please be safe. Blue Skies Kirk
  2. I am not sure of what happened to make his reserve activate. However, prior to that jump another jumper noticed that the top flap of the reserve portion of the container had not been included when the reserve was closed up. The jumper was geared up to jump when it was noticed. He took the rig off and took it back to the rigger that had repacked it to have it fixed. It was the next jump( after having it fixed) that the reserve got deployed. I am not an expert by any means but I would question if it was rigger induced. I find it totally unacceptable that this rigger left out one of the four flaps when closing that reserve, with that kind of error one would wonder what else he might have done wrong. All I know is from now on I am requesting my reserve to be packed by any of the riggers except that one. Kirk

  5. I agree with Rhino on this one. High riser pressure on a Crossfire 2 ?. I have a Crossfire 2 loaded at 1.73 and the riser pressure is fairly light. Kirk
  6. Congrates Drew !!! I am glad to hear your back in the air. Blue Skies Kirk
  7. There is always a lot of controversy around down sizing. Statistically it is always better to be on the conservative side, so that is what a lot of people will push. The real question that needs to be answered is how good of a canopy pilot are you? Elliptical canopies react fast to toggle and harness input so a panic stab of a toggle could be detrimental low to the ground. I personally think that an intelligent person would question a move down and to elliptical canopy regardless of how great of a canopy pilot they are. I also think the answer you are looking for will only come from you and the people that have watched you fly. Just to let you know I do not have a huge amount of jumps on elliptical canopies (about 10 now), but I recently went through this same process you are now. Have fun and be safe. Kirk Quote
  8. I recently went through this same kind of decision myself. I asked my S & TA about it and he suggested demoing one. That was the best idea ever. I weigh 230 out the door and demoed a PD 143 reserve. The canopy flew great a little sluggish but nice. After demoing one I did not have a problem with it for a reserve. PD was able to get a demo to me within 4 days of contacting them. Blue Skies Kirk

    Fast Lane

    Hurray, GT 40 Ford !!!!!!!
  10. I second Phreezone comment. I think Cummings may have made a bad decision in using that ad, but talking to him on the phone he seems like a great person. I just bought a cypress from him and he sent it 3 day air for no cost. Let alone he seems to have the cheapest price for them. Kirk
  11. I jump out there atleast once a week. Skydive Oregon is great!, the staff is excellent and they just added a great swoop pond. There are alot of jumpers in most displines out there including a growing birdman suit section
  12. There really is not any draw backs to a two piece suit. I have a Firefly two piece and the jacket will ride up on a stand, so I just tuck the jacket in the pants. I have never had any problems plus you have the option of taking the jacket off. Oh and if you ever rip the pants you can just get another pair. I would highly recommend a two piece suit. Later Kirk
  13. Well, no I will not post a photo of the suit. I will add that everyone that looked at it (after they got done laughing) talked about how the flowers where hand painted on. The cragftmenship of the suit is great just for me the flowers did not appeal at all(beyond the fact it was not what I had ordered). Yesterday, I took the suit out to the DZ to show the manager for a laugh and actually sold the suit to a newbie for $100. I also had another experianced jumper ask me about the suit and where to get it. Kirk
  14. I ordered the super cut style. Kirk
  15. Well I received my suit today from Kupee. The fit is good and the construction is also good. I unfortunatly ordered a special fabric sf14 which on the web site shows a mix of blue and white. I received a suit with light purple main fabric and big blue and white flowers painted on it. There is no way in hell I would ever wear it. I have e-mailed them and told them I would like to return it and have the special fabric to a solid color and explained the misconception from there web site. So as far as that goes I will let you know the response to that. Other then that the suit is well made (the fabric is a lighter fabric then what my firefly suit is made from). Later Kirk
  16. I had 400 jumps ( about 250 RW jumps and 150 Freefly jumps) when I bought a GTI. I stepped over the Classic 2 and went to the GTI. The advice I was given by the S& TA was prior to getting the suit I should make a few jumps on a camera suit to get a little bit of a feel of having a wing. Also I know that they do not recommend jumping a birdman suit with fewer than 200 jumps and that is with a coach. I did fine on my own; I also spent sometime talking to Kim at Birdman and another Skyflier. I did watch a less experienced jumper(around 300 jumps but mainly freefly jumps) start jumping a GTI he did fine however, it is easy to see in flight that the extra experience I have did help a lot on more stable exits and general flight skills. Oh and I would highly recommend getting some coaching at some point on flying these suits. I did about 10 birdman jumps on my own and then went out with an experienced Skyflier and my skills improved an enormous amount in 5 jumps with his assistance. Blue Skies Kirk
  17. My suit has not arrived yet. I am not sure what is going on with it. I have comunicated with them via e-mail and they have been very polite and prompt. However, I e-mail them Friday asking for a tracking # or anyway of track my suit in shipment and have not received a reply yet. To be honest I did not expect quick delivery (I already have a freefly suit this is just for jumping tandems when I get my rating in a few months), but they said they would deliver quick and 6 weeks later I am still waiting. So as soon as I get the suit I will post my impression of it either in this or on its own post. Kirk
  18. Tony suits are awesome I have 2. I have a pit special and a Tony suit. Love both of them and I think thier customer service Rocks. I got my pit special in less than 2 weeks on a rush and my Tony Suit in 4 weeks on a rush. They both fit great. Kirk

    SEX

The strangest one has to be when I was camping with my girlfriend. We were at an SCA event (group of people that relive the days of knights, kings and stuff) Two women started getting it on in front of a group of 10 others (next to our tent). When I looked around and saw guys sucking on other guys fingers I grab my girlfriend and went into our tent. It was night and we had a lantern in side in tent(we had no clue it would display shadows on the tent). Well the entire group watched the shadow show of us having sex. When we left the tent we were met with applause. Ten minutes later we gave them a second show. This time the commentary from the group watching was hilarious and it made it hard to concentrate. Now the really strange part was her ex-husband was in the group watching
  20. I have ordered a Kupee freefly suit. Including shipping and special fabric it came to $139.99. It was to be delivered in about two weeks but do to some shipping problem it should be closer to 5 weeks when I get it. Oh, and do to the shipping issure(which I am not sure what it was) they are shipping it with a 5 day delivery for no extra charge.I will post my impression of the suit as soon as I get it, but so far they have been really nice to work with. Oh, my suit should be here by Friday Blue Skies Kirk
  21. Thanks Rhino, I have read your review of the Crossfire 2 and also read the reviews you have posted in the forums. I guess at this point I am looking for just general impressions from as many people as possible. Mainly to confirm what I believe about the Crossfire 2 (that is it is great) or to find the flaws in the canopy. After seeing the picture you posted of yours I am a little concerned about how much they closed the nose up. Those inlets are damn small. Anyways thanks Kirk
  22. I am thinking of the Crossfire 2 not Safire 2. The S&TA at my dz does not care for Icarus products after the way they handle the original Crossfire issue, plus he is a PD fan. So he thought that the Sabre 2 would be good as well as the Crossfire 2. I personally feel soon I will be ready to step over to full elliptical. Thanks Kirk
  23. Thanks Bill for the input. One thing I found interesting, in taking the canopy course taught by Jim Slaton he said that you should never try landing a canopy with rear risers unless you had to. I can't remember all of it without my notes but something about aerodynamic difference between rear risers and toggles. I am not trying to start anything just thought it was interesting. Kirk
  24. OK I screwed up it should be opinion. Anyway, I am 225lbs out the door, I have been flying a Safire 169 wing loaded at about 1.65 to 1 over the winter (I got fat “245 lbs out the door” and now trimmed down). I currently am doing 90° front riser to double front riser for final and getting pretty good surf out of it. I feel that the next step is 180° then when they are dialed I would be interested in a new canopy. I have taken a condensed version of the evolution canopy course. My goal is to get longer surfs and take the next step in performance. I am sorry Dan but I am not interested in Cobalts. Blue skies Kirk
  25. I am looking for opinions on the crossfire 2. Also if there is anyone that has tried a crossfire 2 and a Sabre 2 I would like to get an opinion between these two. Thanks Kirk
