Congrats and welcome to the forum.

You definately will have the best summer ever. But your wallet wont . Welcome to the forum and keep us posted with how you go.

I would ask any questions that you have concerns about. The more relaxed you will be on exit will relate to a better skydive. Do not think there are any silly questions to ask your instructor. There is a link below to a skydiving glossary, but you will pick up most of the lingo on the way. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=35 Welcome to the forum and please post back and let us know how your first jump went. One thing to add, listen to your instructor and if you do not understand, ask. When being assisted on landing, remember its not a theme park ride and follow the target assistant in a reasonable timeframe. You will have plenty of time in the future to enjoy the view and do funky things under canopy.

Welcome to the forums. If you PM 'bigway' I am sure he will point you in the right direction. And I think he works at skydive auckland. If you click on the "dropzones" link above it has a list of newzealand dropzones. Also the NZPF has a list of dropzones in newzealand. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Pacific/New_Zealand/index.html http://www.nzpf.org/

In regards to australia go to the below link then "services" and "publications" in there is the "operation regulations" and there is a part there that relates to the min requirements for a jump pilot. There is also a document called "Jump Pilots Handbook" which might come in handy. Australia has only a few larger dropzones, and I have heard some dropzones say they have alot of people asking to be pilots on a regular occasion. However there is a list on the link below of dropzones, contact a number of them and see how you go. I do not recall seeing any spots being advertised for pilots in the APF newsletters but if I do see any (and remember) I will drop you a line. http://www.apf.asn.au/ If you end up coming here to jump, please give me a buz and we will have to share some air.

If you do a search or read through the forum a bit you will find this question being asked a number of times.

Who would want to venture all the way to vandemons land? Picton, Ramblers, Nagambie and York are the larger dropzones and I hope to visit them all over the next 12 months. I have only heard good things about them all. There are a number of smaller dropzones that I have heard good things about, however some are tandem only or require c or d licenses. I can only talk about Skydive Nowra, it has great people and they have rigs/coaches if you feel like doing CReW. They are a cessna dropzone that runs on the weekend. Below is a list of all the clubs affiliated with the APF http://www.apf.asn.au/apf_clubs/clubs.asp

Originally I did not want to suggest having the analysis and the tribute on a seperate site because it does make it more inpersonal and hence they become numbers. However this would be the easiest way to ensure both the learning and the remembering is done to the best extent. I agree that it is good to have nicks work as being something independent.

First I would like to thank you for replying to my thread. I am aware of blinc and read as much as I can about BASE. I just know how some people can react to an outsider discussing how those who have passed away should be remembered. In regards to breaking the list into years. I have read the list many times over in the past year and understand most of the lingo so I can follow it relatively easily. But I can see how a whuffo reporter could misrepresent the fact with the 30sec they spend looking at it. The easier it is to read the more educated they will be. Again I do not have any answers but I do think this is a factor of how the list is refered to by the public. I like your idea of a front page. I did not know how to organise it but when you see a large list of people who have died it is easy to mistake they have all died because of BASE. Again misrepresenting the group.

If you have a mobile phone ask him to put in his number. Say something like you can never use the damn things. If it is already in there write it down and delete it.

First I would like to say I am sorry for intruding as I do not jump base. I would just like to say that I think the job Nick is doing with the list is great. It is a pretty grim task I am guessing and I am glad that there is a way to learn from past mistakes. I would hope if I did something 'new' that others could learn from it and not have to suffer the same fate. I think the list is organised, however I believe a few changes could make a big difference to how it is read by the general wuffo public. Also I am aware we do not want to make it too clinical or statistical as it can be in poor taste, so below is just brain farts do not take them seriously. Some suggestions include: * organising it into years/countries. (make it clear so they can compare to other sports etc..) * perhaps give year and then the number (or two numbers) when/if numbering * Seperate the analysis from the tribute. * place people who have passed away not jumping as a different page. I do think the way the dz.com list is organised is a good example and perhaps hh can add a base list that nick can maintain. And it does appear to be easy to maintain while keeping it too the point and hence making it easy for journos to follow and hence giving them less excuses to spew bullshit. Unfortunately statics can be very helpful to helping your cause as much as it can hurt it. For example (i do not know the real stats) x number of incidents had factors that could be related to NPS enforcement (using b gear, bad weather, night jumps etc..). Trying to avoid jinxing, however I was suprised when I broke down the incidents from 2004 and compared it to other years. But I am just refering to the list being public and then being used by journalists. They will do anything to sell a story and they appear to be lazy so the clearer the list is to read the more accurate you will appear in the press imho.

Ever wanted to jack in your job, emigrate and work on a DZ ?
op5e replied to lintern's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just have to point out that even though australia has nice weather there are not that many full time dropzones due to the fact we have less people in our country than America have in some states. And as the past two weekends have shown, we also get weathered out. -

The reaction to roof jumping is pretty interesting to watch. When it goes bad it is the most insain thing, when it goes well people think its amazing. I doubt the kids actually did this stuff regulary otherwise it probably would have turned up in the article. I personally think these kids are stupid. But I just thought the contrast in reactions are interesting. Wish some people used common sense sometimes though. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1286251;

It's illegal for single women to parachute on Sundays in FL??

I have to say downloading large videos to find out its the same one you have seen 3 times gets very annoying. It is not that hard to do a search to see if something has been posted before and then add your thoughts to the end of the current thread. Also for people who have not seen it before this will bring it to the top for them to enjoy like the rest of us. I think reposting is due to people being lazy. I have had even more problems with this on other forums but it has got annoying on this one from time to time. -
I agree with you. I should have put "safe" in commas but I was just stating that in the risky activity we all love there are risks you can take that make it all the more dangerous. And it is your choice if you are willing to take these risks. But thanks for clearing it up, you definately described it better than i could.

I think you will have some problems of loss. If you look at the links I PMd you metal and glass create large amounts of loss for the RF signal (hence why some wardrivers placed antennas outside the car). Some of these can be overcome by having multiple antennas (or APs) or position of antennas. If you PM me more details how you envision (sp?) using the laptops (ie fully mobile or just on one desk). Possibily you could find a friend who already has an AP and test how the strength/loss is. Please let me know how you go and PM me if you have any further questions.

Is this an educated response or just an asumption? I do not think the poster has 3000$ for this program or ONTRACK to recover some personal photos. I do not even think most police have this money and I believe this is the softwares target audience. There is other software available that you do not have to sell your second born, and some of it is better imho. I personally think of it as luck rather than being hard as it requires you to download a program and press a few buttons with little to no knowledge or skill . It can be impossible for the poster to recover the files he requires depending on what occured on the computer between the format and now. Some specs require you to melt the harddrive platter I believe. I think its more complex reason than "overlapping data" (but you know this). Did you recovere stuff that was overwritten or just recover missing files PhreeZone? This is partially true. You can use bootable CDs and then save the restored files to external media. You can use software that runs in memory and then write to external media, since you have already done so much, booting the OS wouldn't damage it that much more. But for this problem I would recommend using "ide (2.5) to usb" or "2.5 to ide (3.5)" and put it in another computer, as this is easier to walk you through. I will send PM to poster.

There was one hnp on Sunday (one person) when they checked the cloud base. No more jumping so sheit was talked and beer was drunk. Saturday was overcast so poo's cessna went up and did a heap of hop and pops. Last load of the day went to height in the skyvan (some landed on the beach). Again more beer was drunk and video was watched on the big screen. Sunday (today) was a very nice day and loads to height have been going all day. There was freefly, starcrest, horny gorillas, swoops, boat rides, wing suits oh and great weather ;). Trav I also did not get any jumps this weekend I have to say that even though I am grounded the view at Moruya is fantastic, hope I get to see it from height one day. Definately great to finally meet a number of dz.commers.

I think the largest cost would be the computers/laptops in each of the bays. You can get cheap access points now days, and there are a number of wireless cards available just go to the local computer shop. The biggest thing I would worry about is having an open network, so get someone who knows what they are doing to make sure that only your computers can access the network/internet. Else you might get into trouble if people access illegal sites etc.. Also as suggested depending on your information encryption may be needed. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

I would first like to add that the double mal clip you probably saw, was caused by someone doing tricks under canopy. It was a risky activity and I believe you can be as dangerous or safe as you like in skydiving. There is definately a risk in anything we do, only you can answer the question of if it is worth it. Go to www.skydivingmovies.com and go to the opps section alot there to give you some reality. I have not broken any bones skydiving but I have only got 27 skydives. If I did break a bone skydiving I would not regret it becaue I know I play it safe and shit happens. Same reason I will ride a motorbike after I get my leg out of the cast. A friend of mine broke his arm after jump number 3, he did not follow TA, flared high and was going down wind. If you look at your countries skydiving magazine they will most likely have accidents that have occured in the last month. In Australia these list license, how it occured, ways to handle it in the future. Congrats on the tandems, but only you will know if the voices in your head are a passing fad or not. The one thing you should be concerned about, is if your wallet can handle the addiction.

To answer you question in a sentence, I do not know when the jumps in KL are. I have included some links I have found about the KL jumps, just because it confuses me why tourism sites states March 2005 but I can not find any registration sites for 2005. Extreme sports site states that it is in December. The below website states that the next one (2005) is in December. http://www.extremesportscafe.com/base_kl_tower.html Mind you the below link says that it will be March 1 - March 31. But this is consistent with when it was last year. http://www.tourism.gov.my/events/events_info.asp?eventid=3603 Here appears to be a page from last year hopefully that email is still valid. http://www.menarakl.com.my/basejump/index.html
