Why would you not want them to have children together? I understand why you would want them to have children with others. If only ten people are selected, I think it would be relatively easy to find ten very healthy geniuses. An IQ of 167 (SD = 15; 99.9996 percentile) would offer more than 1000 candidates (of all ages and sexes) from the US alone. An IQ of 160 (SD = 15; 99.9968 percentile) would offer nearly 10,000 candidates from the US alone. * * * What would be the best language for the scenario? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! Lucky did a pretty good job describing the process. It's amazing how that had nothing to do with the question at hand. Who said there wasn't a high standard of success? That does not change the fact that virtually every criminal conviction in the US can be appealed. That's basic primary school Civics. You insisted on paying only to me. Either you will pay the money to third parties or you won't. It makes no difference to me, but you can't have it both ways. Besides, it's not may responsibility to pay fees associated with payment. Yes, you owe me a dollar. Thus, it is your responsibility to pay any associated fees involved with payment. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Your source did not contradict what I said. I think you'll find by reading the source that it covered judicial appeals in general, not those specific to the US or to criminal convictions. In the US, everyone has the right to appeal a criminal conviction. Since you seem so intent on mereceiving the $1, within the next few days I'll PM an email address where you can send $1 plus PayPal fees (since you are so concerned about me receiving the payment, not anyone else, such as ACLU or PayPal). What a crock of shit. The books were not "cooked." The budget surplus was real, by any acceptable accounting techniques. Inbreeding will be rife. Agreed. I don't think that would be avoidable with an initial population of only 10 (plus fathers left behind). However, inbreeding between first and second cousins seems to be preferable to inbreeding between siblings and parents/offspring. I think a very relevant question would be: How close would the relationship need to be in order to be considered taboo by the group? At what points should sex be: 1) allowed with intent to reproduce? 2) allowed, but only while using available precautions to avoid reproduction? 3) not allowed at all? With such a small starting group, it's not reasonable to think that there would be no intimate relationships develop between not so distant relatives. At what point should such relationships be absolutely forbidden, and how should violators be punished? Question for the doc: As I understand, it is theoretically possible for fraternal twins (two separate eggs fertilized by two separate sperm, just to make sure I'm using proper terminology) to be each fathered by different fathers. Would it be technologically feasible to make that more likely during the two month prep period? Also, would it be feasible to implant one or two eggs from different (genetically qualified but not selected) females into the selected females during the two month prep time? Would doing so endanger the life of the recipient mother? I don't think all of the females should start out pregnant, since it might not work well for the group if all of the females were in their third trimester at the same time. If five or six females went, then probably three should already be pregnant upon departure. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Maybe I'm missing something, but in the given scenario, why would there be a need to wait until the kid is eighteen in order for them to reproduce? Wouldn't eighteen be a meaningless arbitrary number in that situation? I like Quade's answer, along with the suggestion someone else made of impregnating the females during the two month prep time, ideally by prescreened fathers outside the selected ten (i.e. qualified but not chosen) in order to maximize genetic diversity. I think polyamory might be superior to both in the described scenario, allowing not just multiple wives, but also multiple husbands. The concept of adultery would be counterproductive. Reproduction would probably need to be planned and tracked to minimize inbreeding. Great thread. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

In every case, it has prevented the convicted and executed murderer from killing again. One down, X to go. All you have to do now is prove that those executed would, in fact, have killed again had they only received a life sentence. Without that, you've not provided evidence supporting your assertion. I said that only in response to the comparison that was drawn between hitting a child to show that hitting is wrong, Nice back-pedal. It's not called life in prison, it's called 25 to life. That means they could serve as little as twenty-five years or as long as life. Life without possibility of parole is just that, life without possibility of parole. No, the fact that people still commit murder is not the evidence one would use to demonstrate that the death penalty does not work as a deterrent. People still die in car accidents while wearing seat belts. Is that an indication that seat belts don't save lives? Non-smokers die, too. Is that an indication that tobacco use is not really a health risk? If that's what you use as supporting data, your logic is flawed and your conclusion is incorrect. Your query isn't worth my time, especially since you base it upon faulty logic. It's not a logical analogy. Perhaps you should look in the SIM to find out what the definition of a skydive is. An appeal can be filed for any criminal conviction in the US. The defendant has that right. I love how some people love to claim sarcasm or devil's advocate when they have been shown to be wrong. Only you are suggesting that the jury is a bunch of dolts. Any conviction can be appealed, as previously stated. One of the principles upon which our justice system is built is that it is better to let a guilty man go free than to incorrectly find an innocent man to be guilty in court. You bet a dollar and lost the bet. I posted the manner in which I would like my dollar paid in order to keep the wager legal. Of course, if we fail to see a posted picture of the receipt of the donation to the ACLU posted, it will demonstrate a lack of personal integrity on your part by not keeping your word and paying your lost bet. If that's the message you want to send to everyone, so be it. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

How is it different? Do you have any evidence suggesting the death penalty works as a deterrent? It works every time its tried...well at least here in Texas. Why have you seen the walking dead?, if so I hear a bullet to the head works. Oh yeah? Please, share the evidence that the death penalty has reduced the incidence of murder. Math tutoring available. How is it different? Do you have any evidence suggesting the death penalty works as a deterrent? You might have "caught" me--if I had ever said that "deterrence" is why I support it. You said: "executing someone who has killed, and holding him up to those you wish to teach that murder is wrong." A more concise way of making that statement is that the death penalty is used as a deterrent. Society does not need the death penalty to be protected from convicted murderers. Life in prison protects them just fine. I didn't make that point; I merely asked you for evidence supporting your assertion. Read my post. Actually, I asked how hitting a child to show hitting is wrong is different from killing a murderer to show murder is wrong. And I would congratulate you on your straw man. Math tutoring available. Every criminal conviction can be appealed. The difference with the death penalty is that in some states there is no option to not appeal. Our justice system, with all of its flaws, is as good as it is because we do have the ability to appeal decisions. We don't treat convictions as though they must be flawed, we treat them as though they might be flawed, a huge difference. Questions like these make it sound as if you have no idea how the appeal process works. Perhaps you should learn about the system before complaining about how it works. Here in America, we have a wonderful document called the Bill Of Rights, which is actually the first ten amendments to the Constitution. The fifth amendment reads (emphasis mine): No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. The Constitution essentially forbids appeal of acquittals on the basis of double jeopardy. Please donate $1 to your local American Civil Liberties Union, and post a picture of the receipt.

A lesson that should be taught in all schools

Yeah, they're SURE mind-fucked.... info from HSLDA.org I wonder what the variance, median and mode of scores is for home schooled students versus the national average. It would also be interesting to compare the rates at which home schooled students take the ACT compared to the national rate. Means only tell part of the story. My personal experiences with home schooled students has been they are either way ahead or way behind their peers, academically speaking. That sample has been far too small to be meaningful, however.
