  1. I heartily concur. After a big event, the first question I hear (if I attended) or ask (if I did not) is, "Was it total carnage out there?" Unfortunately, the answer is often yes. Usually just in the form of broken bones here and there, thank God, but it still means the use of local emergency services on out of towners (us). This is perceived as a giant pain in the ass by locals. More BASE jumpers, coupled with publicity, undoubtedly result in a bigger audience and a higher chance of injuries occurring (simply because there are more jumps being made). Taking time off of and limiting large events is a great idea, in my opinion. If there arises the need to charge a day use fee, maybe it could be limited to large events only? I know that donations have been taken at these events to benefit emergency services, but the local government may want something more official and not so "grassroots". The downside for jumpers? You don't have 40 buddies every time to head to Twin Falls. But do you really need that? My favorite times have been when my buddies and I had the bridge all to ourselves, with the occassional stranger or friend joining us on a load. Your mileage may vary.
  2. Yes. Specifically this one: http://www.phoenix-fly.com/products/helmet_stinger.htm
  3. I once switched from a Sabre 2 107 to a Katana 97, and it was perfect for me. I swooped the hell out of that Sabre 2 over 400 times. I then demoed a KA 107 and 97. The same size KA felt much more responsive than the SA 107, but not much quicker overall. Going one size down was perfect. Your mileage may vary.
  4. Another method posted some time ago: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=715987 There was also a web page that had a JavaScript calculator posted on here once. I'll try to find the link again.
  5. What's up with the orange canopy weirdness? How did that happen?
  6. The healthy female dimensions would be a bit different, eh? I just checked my calendar -- my trusty S3 and I have a date with a wall very, very far north that same weekend, unfortunately. But for survey's sake, my dream demos for the moment are V2, Acro, and S6. I might push the trip back a week to come down and get supercurrent first.
  7. In my experience, heading is really iffy on subterminal slider up and unpacked jumps. It flies zippier than most BASE canopies, which is fun if you don't have to set it down on a dime. Heading and pressurization probably aren't consistent enough for technical/low stuff. Makes a great B rig canopy and I'd trust it to jumps that have a few hundred feet and nothing to strike (P bridge is a perfect example).
  8. Demos for the average, healthy male are greatly appreciated. Lots of in shape folks in the northwest. None of this 5'5" 240lb or 6'4" 800lb crap. ;P 5'10" 150lb? 6' 180lb? Sweet. Looking forward to it.

    Impact

Totally. It takes more practice to get a stable-yet-performance body position on the PF tracking suit than a lot of beginner/intermediate wingsuits. But when you nail it, it really screams. What sort of glides have the Impact been giving? Me in my PF suit averages close to 1.3 for skydives. It also gets going really fast from fixed objects. Would be nice to see how the VKB "influenced" Impact compares.
  10. Months of chiropracter visits. Large, fine mesh slider is going to work better for you. The position of the grommets on a collapsed slider will drop it faster with the lines closer together. think about it... it's closer to a slider off/tailgate than it is to using a mesh slider. ouch.
  11. The article has the bastards name... Darrell Ogden. Your days are numbered, Darrell.

    Yosemite Idea

The NPS doesn't want more people there. Federal land is different than a city run by folks like you and me. When we go to Twin Falls, we're welcome because we stay in their hotels, drinks in their bars, eat in their restaurants and pay sales tax on it all. National Parks don't get money the same way. There are permits to do anything there specifically to limit the number of visitors. They don't want more people there. If they did, there'd be an increase in staff (security), which is obviously bad. It's best to just eat away at the slow, slow process of making them forget why they don't want us there.

    Yosemite Idea

Prominent figures in the sport, at that.
  14. How about...? Reminder: Do not become complacent and make the same simple mistakes that experienced and talented BASE jumpers have made recently that cost them their lives. Please apply extra caution and respect at popular and legal sites. Drop the Australian bit. It's really irrelevant and the above is all that really needs to be said re: recent incidents.
  15. I wholeheartedly concur from a lot of experience, not one magical flight. Hanwags = drag. Great, great shoes for all their other obvious benefits, but their rigid form is not conducive to flight.
  16. That's what I was thinking, too. I was hoping the rest of the series would show him pulling it off. Those first couple frames look sick! Cool idea.
  17. Be sure to include Ray's trademark overhaul to conventional grammar and spelling. ;P

    OUT

Fuck yeah, dude. Way to tough it out and overcome some serious shit.
  19. Damn. Here's to a speedy recovery for you and Duane.
  20. Whenever you say "Firebird-R", say the "R" like a pirate. "Firebird Aaaarrrrr!!!!" I'm curious to see where the improvements are in the S6. The S3-S was quite a jump over the S3, even though it doesn't look it on the ground.
  21. The GLX is definitely going to win the speed competition, but there are advantages to a wing like this -- such as fast, hard, wingovers that recover easily and really aggressive traversing.
  22. I',m not making judgments on which is better, I'm just saying the the Nano IS designed for footlaunching (in rebuttal to Chachi's post), and that they have researched and produced wings for footlaunching for a lot longer than Icarus/Daedalus has.
  23. US $1400 for the whole package from SuperFly in Utah. I'm ordering mine soon.
  24. That's exactly what the GIN is, with a lot more research behind it for footlaunching than the GLX. Though the GLX is definitely a badass fast wing.
