  1. We often hear the age old whuffo quote "Why would you jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane?" In this case (see attachment) it is "Why would you get on a perfectly good aeroplane?" I think I might hang onto my jump ticket for this one.
  2. That looks like NSW too me, blue mountains or goulburn maybe?
  3. The nerves are part of the great thing about the sport. I started to get a few nerves towards the end of AFF. My first jump out of the skyvan each day was always the most nerve racking. Something about looking out the big open door, makes it more thrilling than the twotter. Also getting your own gear and packing your own chute helps, IMHO. (Though the first jump on my own pack job was also a good thrill)
  4. At a party, in the bedroom where everyone put their bags - with no lock on the door. I think that door was open more than it was closed.
  5. There is a courtesy bus that takes tandems to and from the CBD, you could hop on that.
  6. For true scientific experiment you need to have control and test subject. So to test if a parachute does save lives we need to have a control group - ie people leaving the plane without parachutes and a test group - people leaving the plane with parachutes. The test has never been conducted properly, so scientifically it is not proven that parachutes save lives, so I guess tandems might be experimental. But in all seriousness, most of the people here would have started their skydiving experience as a tandem passenger, and a lot of people are tandem masters. Go to the dropzone and watch Tandem passengers make their jumps, when you see them landing safely and the big smiles on their face, you might change your mind. The fact that you are on this forum says you do want to do it.
  7. Its not THAT short. Some of the skirts I've seen girls wear are more like a large belt.
  8. Gotta go a bit further out to get to the big jumps! http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp?recordid=54819
  9. I can understand what you are saying. On saturday I jumped my own rig, and my own pack job for the first time. The opening was great, and then I got to fly my Sabre down to the ground. Jumping my own gear and packjob, as well as flying a high performance ZP canopy compared to a F111 student canopy gave me and the other 2 guys jumping their own gear for the first time the biggest rush I have ever had.
  10. If the material is too sensitive, upload it to a webserver somewhere and download it at your destination - or USB keys are great.
  11. ACMESkydiver has a B licence and is from washington.
  12. Everytime I hear that PD suggests that someone not psycho pack I want to SCREAM! Folks, that packing method does not cause deployment problems. Period. For years I've been hearing "PD says I shouldn't pack like that..." There is NO deployment problem created by psycho packing. I have too much research, experience, and data to the contrary. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now, and go fix a damn drink to calm down! I just my Sabre 170 for the first time on Saturday, did 2 jumps, both of which I psychoed pack. They were the best openings I ever had. I was worried about getting spanked, but they were great. I guess PD are concerned with psycho packing because they haven't done much (if any) testing with it.
  13. When sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous.
  14. Real bricks??? This is too good to be true! Maybe one day we'll turn the taps on and won't have to wash our hands with brown chunky water!!! ........well, a girl can dream! Ahh come on, it makes people from Adelaide feel like home.
  15. As a student I bought a used container/main/reserve/aad From what I was told, chances are you will downsize from your first canopy quicker than you will from your second. You will also loose less money on selling used equipment if you have kept it in good order.
  16. If you make it to Sydney, there is Sydney Skydivers, at Picton just south of the city. They run a Skyvan or a Twin Otter, or both if there is demand and sometimes the beaver. There is jumping all weekend, and in the mornings during the week - number of loads depends on demand.
  17. They showed us a video at our A licence course of a canopy collision when a guy was on final. Another pilot flew straight through his canopy and shredded it, he chopped - RSL deployed reserve and he had line stretch on impact. Nasty stuff. Not sure how high they were, but he spent the rest of his life waiting for his reserve to come out.

    New rig

Everyone I spoke to about gear at my DZ said to buy second hand for your first rig, since you will probably downsize sooner than with your next rig. If you've got the money to spend then new is good
  19. You mean it's a crime to defend your children, your friends, or complete strangers in desperate trouble? Thats right, protecting yourself and your spouse is self defence. You are allowed to use the minimum required force necesscary to subdue or arrest the attcker. Minimum required force is determined by the situation, the acceptable level of force is different if you are being attacked by a 50kg girl compared with a 110kg football player. Protecting anyone else is not as clear-cut and decided in a court. This is how it was explained to me by a member of the Australian Federal Police force.
