I'm trying to figure out if I can work part of my hours remote tomorrow at davis in skydance. Does anyone know if they have free wifi. I can't remember from the last time I was there. -Patrick

hmm odd, plane looks familiar as well... i wonder if this had this happened down the road at a dz that starts with an L the jumpers at this dz (i think) here would have complained about how unsafe it was. don't flame, just independent observation -Patrick
-
Observation: No one on this thread regardless of if they had a near experience, knew someone with an experience, or had a "plan" gave any indication of ever feeling "down and sorry for themselves". All the posts were either incredibly positive minded (cursing can be positive) or funny. I wonder what that says about skydivers? As for myself (assuming the commercial plane catastrophe) I'd track for water, soft looking trees, whatever looks like it'll work out best. I'm convinced in the right circumstance I'll live because I did something.... and if not, none of you fuckers will say "hey he didn't even track! he must have sucked as a skydiver" -Patrick

What denier cordura should I be looking for to replace booties with? 330, 500? I know 1000 is way too much and I've played with ballistic and know that stuff is just too much. I've already made the pattern and have material for the back of the leg, the elastics material, the bootie leather, and someone willing to let me play with their super nice sewing machine that can actually pierce all that stuff together. -Patrick

Not a rigger either, but looks also that the risers have "soft housings" for the extra cable length. Not that it is dangerous per se but it may also be something for you to ask your local rigger the pros and cons of. -Patrick

A spectre? As per reputation of the canopy: "get in bag anyway you'd like, will work and open softly on heading". p.s. don't take the above as advice, it's a humorous note (in case you can't tell) for people that know spectres. -Patrick

Davis had a hawk this spring/summer that snapped at PC's on final. (The treeline where the bird lived was often the base leg when landing (south?) i think it was and the hawk had babies ) Apparently it tore into a canopy or two and also did some damage to someone on the ground after landing. -Patrick

The Loveliest Most Wonderful Brooke Baum
sagan replied to Naomi's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
I couldn't agree more! Although I only had a chance to jump/tunnel with her a few times she had a way of both being a competitor and keeping things fun and light and she was awesome to be around. She'd greet you with a big smile, hug, and (hard) smack on the butt regardless how much you were rushing by to get on the now call. My deepest heart felt condolences go out to her family and friends. -Patrick -
Seems like mexico is the spot, heading down for a few days to cancun with another skydiver (work bonus trip) and then off to CA for some early season jumping. -Patrick
-
damn it! And I just bought all this gaffers (sp?) tape for christmas because it was FAA approved... what a waste, all I needed was glue! -Patrick

If you look in the micron (bill's co) owner's guide it says his design of the yoke makes up for lack of chest rings. Until I read that in the owner's manual that was the one thing from keeping me buying a micron because I wanted the chest rings. Regardless of articulation a rig custom made for you will fit more comfortably than one that's not. -Patrick

Airport security and carryon parachutes....ugh....
sagan replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Be carfeful with things such as zip ties and wraps. A buddy of mine used to put a little lock on the reserve so that it didn't get pulled by security. Wouldn't you know he realized on the way to altitude that he had forgoten to take it off!*** RUMOR has a VERY prominent skydiving team had something like this happen...except they didn't realize until AFTER the jump. ... but again that's just RUMOR. If your paranoid about your handles you could 1) Use a BRIGHT NEON colored pull up cord. or 2) Just use your chest strap... hard to put on a rig when the chest strap is tied on to the handle. Bonus this also keeps the MLW together nicely. I'll usually bundle mine with my leg straps and reserve handle and it keeps it in a nice rectangle. -Patrick -

Put it in a gear bag. My exact same thought. I have the paperwork on the outside pocket. A copy of the paperwork I use is attached. I also have the xray card and copies of the xray card (as you stated, the TSA people are interested in knowing more too, so I give them a copy to keep so they can read up for themselves.) Beyond having them swab it I've never had anyone give me anymore grief than that. -Patrick -
I don't think I've ever heard "wow your such a great skydiver I want to sleep with you" from any women referring to any guy at any DZ I've been to. On the other hand, you'll definitely hear, "Dude, she's a skydiver, and a hot chick -- I wish I could sleep with her!" from skydiving guys. -Patrick

If you go to the skydive magazine website you can order back issuess -Patrick

Ok fair enough, I understand the spirit of your comment. The only counter I have for that is that a lot of sports struggle with this and just because there is no mass media appeal doesn't mean the sport is dying. -Patrick

Totally agree! I did this with the last two people that were confused on packing and it seemed to help a lot! That and gave them some new knowledge and a reason to owe beer -Patrick

What do you mean? We have about 100 of these if not more. Think about all the disciplines we have and all the terrific skill level people each has. That's the great thing IMO about our sport. Look at some of the great events in the last few years: 400 way, 4-way VRW, swooping events (no longer the one trick pony), 4 way teams averaging 20's with blocks, the amazing distances people are covering in wing suits, the list goes on and on... -Patrick

Are you always nervous when you jump?
sagan replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nervous -- Depends whose on the load with me? -Patrick -
Ok I want a refund, I got pied at 500. -Patrick

You're on a 4-way, and notice you're at 1200ft, do you:
sagan replied to fred's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I like the "wave off"... Who are you waving too? The people that pulled at 3K watching the dummies still in free fall? If there's something still falling above you and your at 1200' there's a lot more interesting problems at the DZ. -Patrick -
I wish my handles were that close to me under canopy... take another look next time your in full fight with slider down and chest strap elongated... Mine are chest high and at least 3-5" away from my body to the side. -Patrick

I did my first jump at Skydive Cape Town http://www.patricklehner.net/sas/pictures/southafrica/smSkydiving30.jpg I liked it so much I did a second tandem the following day. Other places that come to mind: Davis CA (cool patch work of vegetation) Skydive New England (fall especially!) Lake Elsinore - It's got a lake, it's got mountains, what more do you want? Oh Skydive San Diego too! Lots of cool stuff to see plus lake and mountains :) -Patrick

Why did the X games drop skysurfing?
sagan replied to morris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I presume you mean speed flying with skis or a board on. Even so, it's like "extreme skiing" (not the supercorss stuff but the real stuff that gets timed and what not) which is hardly ever televised. Let's face it, our sport is much more fun to participate in and get the first person perspective, than it is to watch. The only ones that like watching are us, but don't worry, freeflyers will watch the same jump from 8 different cameras and never know it's the same jump, so maybe that can make up for some of the loss in viewership -Patrick -
OOps your right, Spire that's the one... nevermind, i withdraw the question. This what happens when you post too late at night. -Patrick
