Hope you get to make it out If you dont join us on the flights out on Tuesday, you may spot me out there either last in the aircraft a rather nervous looking AFF student or staggering back to the packing shed dying in a black jumpsuit after what will seam like hours under canopy
-
I've been told before that I look petrified in the plane but I dont think I feel it. My nerves are more intense when waiting to get manifested (usually because ive had a 6 week break between jumps due to the weather) The decision at the end of the day is to get on the plane as (cloud base permitting) there is only one way Im going out. I know as soon as im in there I focus on what Im going to do and enjoy the plane ride. As soon as I hear 'cut' Im in the door and away Having random attacks of nerves about going to do AFF in a couple of weeks but since I got a jump on Sat I remembered why I do it and its that fine line between excitement and nerves I cant wait to experience freefall again

I'm off to the Boogie to do AFF there next month so would also like to hear others experiences of the place. Otherwise I'll let you know how I get on but I dont have much of a frame of reference against other DZ's

As a relative newbie to the forum it'd be great to put a few faces to names I'm driving (bringing a car load) over so Ill be the quiet sober one who you might spot getting sized for kit at some point as Im fed up of the British weather and am off to do AFF at the Dubai boogie

Yep first AGM, all tips greatfully received

I'm going to be driving over for the day with a couple of other students

I am a cinema manger and had to deal with one customer berrating me as we hadnt informed him that Chicago was a musical, it is so hard not to sound patronising or to laugh on such occasions but they happen so much more often than you can ever imagine My fav recent customer query came a couple of weeks ago when one of my staff was asked if there would be another Lord of the Rings sequel coming soon!

Your Skydiving Goals for 2005?
julesshrew replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well I need to walk before I can run its taking a lifetime in itself trying to get jumps to progress on raps so im in the process of booking aff at the Dubai boogie in feb So theres hopefully Cat 8, jump abroad and attend a boogie attainable obviously to get my own rig is a major goal it would be nice to think I could complete 100 jumps by the end of 2005, I also until recently lived in Jersey (Channel Islands) and it would be nice to go back there to jump -
Just watching the live feed and Fran and Joe are talking about the tandem jumps they did at the start of the show. The pair of them have decided they loved it so much that they will go together and jump again when they're back in the UK Just them talking about it has made me watch the DVD of my tandem again just to relive that feeling when I got hooked ok so it was only 2 months ago but after nearly a month of dissapointment and not jumping due to bad weather I got my first dummy pull jump in this week and im just buzzing off everything to do with skydiving

Easy enough to find and only an hour and a half further away from my local DZ. Decided to take a run over midweek as my usual DZ is only open on Saturdays. As a relatively new jumper, I felt very welcome, superb briefing on how to exit a new aircraft and general refresher training helped immensely as I had been waiting a month to do my first dummy pull. Will definitely go back mid week as I know I'll be able to get a couple of jumps in.

No I had a sign not to jump on Saturday all rigged up got to the plane and someone smelt burning so we couldnt get on until everything was checked and the plane did a circuit. The other plane was in the air and we couldnt get intouch with anyone on the other side of the airfield so we had to walk back. Just get back as the second plane lands so we get driven back to it where upon the pilot needs a toilet break so leaves in the van Then the first plane lands again and we all get in. We get to 3000ft and are deep in cloud over the Dz so we have to land By that time after an hour and 15 mins in the rig I was just more than ready to take it off I had accepted the fact that I was not meant to jump on that day although It was very frustrating as its now been a month since my last jump as my DZ is only open on a Saturday. So its a bit of a trek but weather permitting im off to Langar tomorrow Dont give up I know its frustrating but there will eventually be good weather days which will ensure you get plenty of jumps and a very light wallet

Jumping with a broken nose?
julesshrew replied to julesshrew's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it might just be a small fracture but the hospital doesnt bother with xray to find out and only operates if the nose is visibly out of shape I just get regular moments where it feels like I have a bar rammed through the top of my nose kind of a dull throbbing feeling Well Im still on SL at the moment so no freefall to worry about and the DZ not open til Saturday which will of left me with 2 weeks of healing time. So fingers crossed -
Jumping with a broken nose?
julesshrew replied to julesshrew's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok I have a suspected broken nose from making contact with an opponents knee with the bridge of my nose while playing football (soccer for our friends over the pond) last Sunday. Ive been told by the doctors that the pressure caused by climbing to even 3500ft could be quite painful to my sinuses As I also had concussion I havent jumped this week but has anyone else incurred a similar injury as I really could do with getting to jump next week as Ive been waiting 3 weeks now already to get manifested to do my first dummy pull but I dont want to get in the plane if by the time I need to exit Im going to be in pain and not be able to focus on getting a good jump -
Trying different dropzones UK
julesshrew replied to julesshrew's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Tilstock is my DZ, I live in Shrewsbury so next closest are Langar or Hinton Im guessing Id still need to do the 3 good DPs at Tilstock to be cleared for freefall there (I want my T-shirt and cant relent on the responsibility of getting the beers in) I just wondered if there was a chance of getting extra jump experience in as lack of daylight hours isnt going to help getting the 3rd dummy and the 1st freefall done on the same day (Tilstock only open on Saturdays) -
Trying different dropzones UK
julesshrew replied to julesshrew's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well after a truely infuriating day at the DZ the one day a week its open, perfect weather, two planes in use I sat there for 6 hours and still didnt get chance to jump as it began to get dark as I got to the top of the manifest list So as a newbie 3 SL jumps done, dummy pull briefing completed am I able to pop along to other DZ's to try and get some progression? or as i've heard do I have to of progressed to freefall before I can jump at another DZ? I just really want to get onto freefall asap as there are sydiving trips to the US being discussed atm and I feel a bit premature saying i'd like to go as i'd need to be on freefall to be able to go -
