  1. Good luck with that. Wait, he didn't say he'd actually put his money where his mouth was, just that the fund he has the option of investing in is doing as well. Correct. Ethical business practice is not in conflict with good management and profitability. Now I'm confused, is this your justification for NOT putting your money in the ethical fund?
  2. Well they were tests not demonstrations, there's a difference. The tests produced mixed results and some successes. Your attempt to misrepresent them tells a story.

    Shopping rant

I was at SD zoo the other day, some woman with a pushchair & young baby was at the food counter, a server dropped a LARGE tub of coke onto the pushchair with baby inside, fortunately most of it missed the kid but the chair got a good soaking. The server then spent a good minute or two saying over the counter "I knew that was gonna happen" and "Yea it fell all over the pushchair", not ONCE did she attempt to help the woman, make eye contact or apologize to her. I got up to help and passed some napkins etc. Not one other person in the place lifted a finger and this was on a holiday weekend.
  4. well, is there *any* problem where it's better than 10% effective? So I'm supposed to respond in kind because you pulled a number out your ass?

  6. Call them up and say you never wanted vista, that you insist on XP. If they refuse return the system, insist on getting an RMA number. Any problems simply dispute it using your credit card. Heck call up your CC company and ask them how to go about returning the system to their satisfaction. Your credit card gives you a lot of power to push back against shysters. Just don't waste time doing this, that's the one thing you can't do.
  7. Torrey Pines Glider Port is the nearest AFAIK. Based on the weather, I think it's down right now and pumping out an old image, so here's a webcam shot from a couple of days ago.

    Smart Kid!

With sweet talk like that he's gonna be a hit with the ladies. .... Are you sure he is not a she?
  9. The problem is it's a 10% solution. Given all the other things we could do with billions of dollars, it's stupid to go for that 10%. It's a certainty that we can list many reasons why it won't work. Starting with.... The problem with NK is not that they might launch it - MAD assures us that they won't. It just removes our ability to engage it in conventional warfare without worry. That depends on what you see as the problem it is trying to address.
  10. Let us remember that they only became a federal liability after 9-11, they used to be run by the airlines when at the stroke of midnight they were all transformed into federellas.
  11. Shameful but so is their treatment all round. He should have told them that he was such a poisonous upstart that he risked political imprisonment back home and he wanted to come to the UK to spread his hatred here instead. We'd have laid out the red carpet.
  12. Unless you're on the receiving end of one, then they're pretty darned costly. Your Ostritch defense strategy has never worked. Alternative effective approaches to nations like NK are untennable thanks to years of bitching and backbiting whenever action is taken. Missile defense is about the only politically viable course of action left that actually does anything to address a serious threat, and nobody is selling it as 100% effective or impossible to circumvent, but it is a certainty that you don't accurately know it's full capabilities.
  13. Try riding the aircraft down at Otay Lakes (skydive San Diego). I've attached a Google Earth shot of the very approximate downwind view (should be more to the right), the runway is visible lower left.
  14. P.S. actually the lesson was review hand signals & procedures when diving with strangers esp from different organizations.... and never dive with an Englishman.
  15. ? Back when I was learning there were no octopus rigs and I heard a no shit story from a diver at our club. He was visiting another area and diving with a guy from a local club(different org too at the time Brit or English vs. Scottish Sub Aqua Club), he had a first stage failure and turned to his dive buddy giving him the signal and the guy flat out refused to buddy breathe..... (he waved him away). He was forced to make an emergency ascent (using his ABLJ), there's a lesson in there somewhere, I forget what it was though.... it was either; pick your diver partner carefully, OR never dive with an Englishman.
  16. You are breathing compressed air. As you ascend, the compressed air you have in your lungs will expand. By continuing to breathe normally (or at minimum continuing to blow bubbles) you allow the expanded air to escape. If you hold your breath the expanded air has nowhere to go and can cause an overexpansion injury, to the point of rupturing your lungs. You are breathing air at the ambient pressure for the depth you are at thanks to your regulator. So it's the fact that you are breathing at depth and not that you are breathing air from a compressed supply that is the issue. Any gas (including the air in your lungs) expands as per Boyle's law during an ascent as the pressure decreases and so the rest is correct. If you halve the pressure you double the volume. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyle%27s_law You should learn this on any diving course.
  17. That consent was deemed to have been obtained fraudulently in the same ruling. I wonder what Solomon would have done.... I expect folks would be whispering another apocryphal tale of a board of regents + doctors having their spleens removed with a spork. Hey if I guy gets his eyes plucked out for lifting an unattended sack of rice, I think spleen & genetic theft has got to rank some serious demerits, unless you're a graduate of Josef Mengele school of medicine. That's not even touching on the deeply troubling wholesale patenting of genes, when it is not even understood what many of them do and the peptide sequences weren't invented, merely discovered.
  18. There's a big difference between feel good "jam today" spending as you endenture your grandkids and signing your own ass up today. The first shows nothing but a lack of foresight, the second shows character and commitment.
  19. Rubbish, didn't you watch the video? I posted it for you. Hemp is NOT illegal, you just need to register and get a tax stamp. It's as illegal as driving a car. Now imagine some fascist stopped issuing driving licenses on some misguided and unrelated political crusade..... It is ridiculous to outlaw a raw material for NO reason, Hemp is not the pot producing plant it is merely a related one. It's like banning house cats because tigers can kill people. Aren't you ashamed to be taking the side you are? You're the one who should have to justify your position not the other way around, but all you can do is call people names. What's wrong with the free market for this commodity?
  20. Yep and a lot of them did it for their capitalist society vs. communist ones. It's quite surprising to see you co-opt them to your cause in yet another fataly flawed analyis and impugn a veteran in the process. While you were earning your stock options at Qualcomm etc. exAFO was serving yet you have the cheek to equate his attitude in support of capitalism and in opposition to a flawed & corrupting philosophy to a lack of self-sacrifice. The people we remember on memorial day did not merely throw their lives away for strangers, they fought in support of ideas bigger than themselves. The sacrificed in the service of freedom and other noble causes.
  21. Just for you ExAFO, "Hemp for Victory": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkroOQT-84Q AFAIK you can't grow hemp because of the need for a federal regstration and tax stamp mentioned in this video, the issuance of which they now abuse to stop production. It is rank bullshit.

    The Secret

Although I'm confident you've offended more than your share, I don't think you'd want to offend another fellow Scotsman. P.S. thanks for the consideration.
  23. Where would the air already behind the visor go if you got a rush of air in? I'd guess it's not a problem. Having jumped without goggles I don't think you ever really need 100% wind protection.
  24. Where's the option for the price should go down? If there's a sudden 33% decrease in demand but supply remains approximately the same... I'm just sayin..... Shoulda read the thread, others beat me to it, with pictures....
