I can see this going to the supreme court eventually. This is the most telling portion of the article right here. When passing a restriction on a constitutionally protected right, you are supposed to do it in the least restrictive way possible. It's not up to the plaintiff to show harm, it's up to the state to show that the restriction is the least intrusive way possible and that there will be significant gains by passing the restriction (strict scrutiny, which obviously wasn't used in this case). If the law is unenforceable (which means that there will be no gains from passing it) and it's a restriction on a constitutionally protected right, the court absolutely got it wrong. Of course, this is the second amendment we are talking about. It's an obsolete second class right, kind of like freedom of speech. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The Republican party is revolting against its self and going through some changes. Trump is the result of the political elite not representing the people in the party any more. I said a while ago in the "Adolf Trump" thread that this is a hiccup in the political process, and I still believe it. Trump is a symptom, but not the cure. The R's in power will either learn from the voters going scorched earth on their political party or they will go the way of the dodo bird. And contrary to popular belief, this is a continuation of the Tea party movement. The Tea party was never racist, sexist, extremists, or what ever else the Leftist Media portrayed them as. It was always about getting a government that follows its own laws, the constitution, and represents the people. The left has it's own problems to deal with also. What do you think the rise of "Black lives Matter" and Bernie Sanders is all about? The left knows there is something wrong with their party also, they just don't know what to do about it. Kind of the same reason we have all these people voting for Trump. Either way, things are going to get worse before they get better. You can bet on that. When I googled it I found that some Ny legislators have announced a plan to limit ammo sales to twice the capacity of the registered gun per 90 days. So theoretically someone who owned a 6 shot revolver could only buy 12 bullets in a 3 month period. I didn't see anything to indicate that it is likely to happen, though. Sounds like a brilliant idea!!! Last thing we want is people to be safe and proficient with their firearms.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Should Hillery Clinton release Wall Street speach transcripts
jgoose71 replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
I haven't read anything about this, other than the usual biased innuendo without proof. One was a list trying to tie country donations to their foundation and weapons sales. Do you have anything concrete? There was an entire book laying out all the corruption called "Clinton Cash" by Peter Schweizer. It detailed how after Bill was hired to speak at events, there would be large contributions to one of the Clinton funds. When Hillary was in the state department, payments went in, and there would be favorable rulings to said donor countries like Saudi Arabia and others. You don't remember the big up roar when CNN anchor George Stephamopoulus (SP?) interviewed Peter Schweizer about the book? He basically called Peter I liar and then it was discovered that he donated $75,000 to the Clintons. His credibility as a serious journalist was severely questioned after that. Anyway, since Hillary's e-mail scandal, the FBI has also decided to expanded their investigations to include federal corruption charges because of these events. They haven't said what they have or haven't found, just that they there was something that made them want to expand their investigation. Must have been something interesting.... The wikj-pedia link about the book. Keeping investigating past this, if you dare..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Cash "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. We are not talking campaign contributions, we are talking straight up bribery. For a measly $1.5 million dollar donation to the Clinton foundation or the Clinton Global Initiative, you to could get a favorable ruling out of the Clinton state department.... Of course, once she is president, the price will go up. "But the money is not going to her, it's going to Bill who is running the foundation." You say.... Riiiiiiiight............. What does that even mean? It means for sale to the highest bidder, just like when she was in the state department. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything -
Semi auto rifles and "high capacity" magazines are not legal yet. The biggest piece of this ruling is that it was kick back down to the lower court and they must re-evaluate using strict scrutiny. (like what they generally do when placing restrictions on other amendments) Up to this point, the 2nd amendment was a "lesser amendment" and all that was needed to place limits on it was intermediate scrutiny. With intermediate scrutiny all a court would have to say is "public safety" and anything would pass. So we are not out of the woods yet, but we are now at least one step closer to welcoming the second amendment back to the constitution. And if this holds mustard, hopefully a lot of other restrictions can be taken back and re-evaluated under the same standard. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I said no. At this point it doesn't really matter. She is sticking to her story that she is an outsider because she has ovaries, and it doesn't matter how far in bed she has crawled with the wall street crowd. Also, she has been in the public so much over the last decade that people have already made up their mind on her. At this point releasing the transcripts won't change much. Me personally, I already know she is an insider establishment tool of the status quo. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Because you have some evidence that the coin tosses were rigged? Wait. Belief isn't evidence? SINCE WHEN? Is it SO HARD TO BELIEVE that maybe God made all the coin tosses go in favor of the candidate He prefers? I mean, imagine the odds! There MUST have been some divine intervention. I think after South Carolina (Before super tuesday) it will be down to the following: Trump Cruz Rubio Bush Kasick Christie Not that Bush, Kasick, or Christie have a chance, it's just that their ego won't let them drop out, plus they have the funds to keep going. In the end, I would put money on Rubio. As Trump and Cruz destroy each other, Rubio will just sail by with his message of optimism. After Ohio, I think he has the wind at his back... 1776 was the year we declared independence. It wasn't recognized (e.g., the British government stopped fighting to get us back under control) until the Treaty of Paris in 1783. It took us until 1787 to ratify a constitution. So, I would have considered that a trick question by the interviewer. Of course, I couldn't reference 1783 readily (had to look that one up), so my answer would have been my first sentence above (emphasis included). Teacher's pet...... When was the last time a car bomb went off in a western country? (IRA excluded of course, they are not muslim...) While there are car bombings quite frequently in places like Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, etc, against western targets, Paris, San Bernardino, and the Sydney Cafe attacks were all shootings. You will have to show me where you get your data. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Well, yes, of course they don't say that. Britain, just like Australia, has had that course of thinking bred out of them. The appropriate thing to do is to sit back and relax and try to enjoy your attack while waiting for the proper authorities to arrive. Oh jeez. Not quite sure why I am even responding given how moronic that comment is, but lets start with you explaining to me EXACTLY how a gun would defend you against a car bomb? Nice Red Herring.... To bad car bombs are not the preferred method of attacking the west. They leave a lot more signatures for intelligence agencies to preempt. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. We have several bunches of right wing assholes over here who claim to have the interests of the British people at heart. Some of these hate preaching groups are the English Defense League and Britain First. Quite recently, we had very severe flooding in several parts of the country with some towns being flooded out 3 or 4 times in as many weeks and many families losing everything including homes and businesses. Where were the far right who claim to care about the British people? Off on a little jolly intimidating homeless refugees in Calais while the "unassimilated" Muslims were wading through floodwater and sewage to help deliver sandbags, provide hot food and dry clothing and help out the unfortunate people of Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire, simply because it was the right thing to do. And just for a little context and light relief: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWUjHlh7QEY And do you recognize this guy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF2aByg4Gag "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I just finished watching Cartel Land. It was a pretty good documentary. I learned a few things I didn't know before about the uprising against the cartels. I just can't help asking "what if" though. What if after the federales instead of trying to disarm the militia decided to try to work with them and train and discipline them, rather than try to disarm them. I really can't blame them for not putting down their guns. The government was not going to protect them when the cartels came back for revenge. Instead they left them to the corrupt politicians. Another lost chance and the dance continues...... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Well, at least we'll have a fighting chance when ISIS comes for us (unless they plan on targeting a gun free zone again....) What will the body count be when they hit the "unable to defend its self" populous of the UK? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3414721/Shocking-martyrdom-video-emerges-ISIS-Paris-attackers-carrying-beheadings-threaten-massacres-West-make-clear-UK-target.html I love it when people quote the daily mail And the UK has far more experience with terrorism than you will ever comprehend. Sounds like you have been listening to far too much Trump. I can't tell you how much I hope you are right. But....... It doesn't change the fact that the UK now has a large unassimilated muslim population in it and ISIS just posted a video threatening the UK and it's prime minister. This is a debunked myth of the left. In all my readings I've only heard of it happening once. If I find the link again I'll post it. Average response time in the US for a police officer in the city is 11 minutes. An untold factoid is most armed assailants (and all mass shooters in recent times) will either back down or take their own life as soon as they come in contact with an armed person. 99.99% of the time when a policeman arrives on seen and the victim was armed, the incident is either under control or the bad guy has fled (or in the case of a mass shooting, taken his own life). In the remaining instances, the victim (or other person who might have made the 911 call) is usually on the phone with police dispatch and the officer has a good idea what is going on before he arrives. This is another case of a liberal "what if" not really matching reality. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. For those of you that missed it, Wayne LaPierre or (in a very heart warming and non-confrontational way because we know how loving the left is) “Taliban Wayne” issued a challenge to Obama to have a debate on gun control. For those that watched the town hall the president had on gun control the president chided the “Evil Gun Lobby” for not showing up. To be honest, I don’t blame them. They would have only been allowed to ask one pre-screened question and then would have been lectured afterwards for as long as the president desired and used as a prop for his misguided policies, just like he did to rape survivor Kimberly Corban. After he first dismissed her concerns about not being able to protect herself he then “mansplained” to the little lady that despite him never owning a gun and her being a concealed and carry permit holder ever since her incident, that in his "expert opinion" her and her family are safer without one. I found it very condescending. Here is the town hall for anyone that missed it: Warning: Over an hour long... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HrBR_kXIHw So anyway, after the town hall, where Obama gave a bunch cherry picked statistics, Wayne LaPierre went to work trying to set the record straight and offer some real ideas for gun control: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLTMkg1RLW0 And Challenging Obama to a real debate, not just one pre-screened lecture followed by a lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yClzzvWUoG4 I happen to agree with the NRA on this one. What good are all these new laws when enforcing the old ones are to troublesome? 38 states that don’t fully input into the instant back ground check system, felons not prosecuted for trying to buy a firearm, gun violations just not being prosecuted at all because the government just doesn’t have time for that, yet Obama wants to add more laws that will only effect law abiding gun owners. The stats just don’t show that criminals buy their guns from gun shows or on line. They do straw purchases and black market buys. It's all a smoke screen so when these laws fail to curb violence (statistics say they will) he can demand gun confiscation as the only alternative. The NRA provides firearms training to millions of people ever year. They made Clinton implement the background check system, and are probably the leading authority on pretty much everything firearms related. Instead of demonizing them, Obama should work with them if he wants to pass meaning full legislation. I think the real truth is Obama just does not want to put people in jail. He thinks he can make bad people behave by not allowing them access to guns. But the only way to do that is to just get rid of all of them. Just like in the third grade, because Johnny put his gum under the seat, nobody can chew gum. One person screws up we punish all because just punishing the guilty takes work. To bad this is not the third grade any more and we are talking about the constitution of the United States. So are you saying we should be tolerant of their non-tolernace? Or do you just not know the tenets of sharia law? Or are you saying that they are allowed to grope our women and we have to just accept it? Just to be clear, Sharia law is not tolerant and does not respect personal freedom. If you accept a lack of tolerance and respect for personal freedom in your multicultural society, it will fail. Or worse, the tolerant will be subjugated.
