I've got the canopies already, but I need a container and AAD to make Rig #2 complete. So, can you put my name on the 50% off Infinity or 30% of V3 or Vigil? Thanks! Dogs! I'm thinking you two were in the "genuine romance" category. Or you're doing a really good job faking it. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

It happens, sometimes leading to genuine romance, sometimes just instructors using the pussy pass they believe was issued along with their rating. What's a dandem? What if I never did a dandem? What if my first instructor wasn't a dude but I'm not into the ladies like that? Moving from Seattle to Oakland with two cats was bad enough - I can't imagine a cross-country trip. Even though they were in separate carriers, they'd feed off each other with the whining. Yes, yes, I get it that you're not pleased with this whole thing, but do we have to do this for the whole 10 hours? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. I realize of course, you meant batting gloves (I have a couple pair that I love for jumping) but for a split second I had an image in my head of a fielding glove. Might make it a little tougher to get to your handles. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Book: "Green Team", by Richard Marcinko
NWFlyer replied to JohnRich's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hell, part of the reason I'm skydiving is that I got a taste of that incredible danger crossing the street - got hit by a car as a pedestrian (in the crosswalk, crossing with the light). I figured "well, shit, if I can get badly injured doing something 'safe,' I might as well skydive." (And btw, to pchapman I say "Bravo, sir, bravo!") I got one of the surprisingly common ones last night from an old friend from graduate school that I see once every couple of years or so. Him: You still jumping out of airplanes? Me: Yup, still having a great time. Him: So how many skydives do you have now? Me: Just over 800. Him: So you're jumping by yourself now, right? How come everyone keeps asking me to buy beer?

To give you one data point, I have about 300 jumps on my Pulse and exactly one bad opening, and that was more likely attributable to a pilot chute issue, not a canopy issue. The openings are positive but not spanky or sniveley, and almost universally on heading. I love the canopy. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Coming from Bill, I don't think that's a PA. I think it's flirting. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

That sounds like something I should remember. she wore it for a video shoot, she was tracking and letting loose confetti, it was a great image http://www.youtube.com/kidsavantmusic#p/u/0/5ZxFCU2hEbA Amy jumps out at 2:35, confetti starts at 2:50. Are you being asked to commit to a certain amount of time if you accept this new offer? If not, what's the downside of taking it and continuing to keep your eyes open for another opportunity? well they did have that nice Jeff Nebelkopf one too. Nah, I'll take Amy. And I don't even play for that team. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

I've jumped at 25+ dropzones and I don't think I can ever recall a place where the door was not re-closed at some point prior to jump run; usually between 5,000 and 8,000 feet depending on how hot it is. This allows for everyone to safely do handle checks, for the TIs to safely hook up their students, for people to move around getting in position and putting up benches, without the added risk of something getting bumped during that process with an open door. So you can still yell "DOOR!" "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. Hey, I sent you a cool card with my check (hopefully you've received it by now). I think that would look good on the fridge (even tho it's not original artwork). Excellent. Shah is going to convince the next generation to be insecure, self-loathing, judgmental, misogynistic, and vaguely racist about their careers, too. How not to be the "problem student?" in AFF
NWFlyer replied to Namowal's topic in Safety and Training
Good point. My closest drop zone doesn't offer static line, but there's ones further away that do. Maybe it's worth the drive. As a static line baby, I would still say give your closer DZs that do AFF a try first, since those are more likely to become your "home" DZ as you grow in the sport. The more time you spend there as a student, the better you'll get to know the local folks. Your profile says you're in Los Angeles; you've got lots of great DZs (relatively) close. I'd say go visit all of them; Skydive Elsinore and Skydive Perris are within spitting distance of each other; there's even two different skydiving schools at Perris. Go check 'em both out, plus Elsinore, and see which one feels best for you. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
