  1. For the most part those days are long gone. Auto-shift no clutch pedal, satellite or cellular tracking, speed limiters, electronic logbooks, radar controlled adaptive cruise control, systems that alert safety department of time, following too closely, overspeed, and hard braking events, dispatch systems that alert if you are behind schedule, automatically applied braking if a another vehicle is too slow in front of you, there is very little freedom for the average long distance trucker. The truck I drive has every one of these systems. More are coming soon. I drive a company owned truck. But even owner operators have much of this stuff mandated.
  2. Whatever silly nonsense the right wing distraction machine has come up with this week will not make any difference to the Mueller team grinding away at the rats running from the sinking ship that is the Trump administration. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  3. From the story YOU linked to: Your lack of adequate reading before posting and drawing incorrect conclusions is on a par with the your usual posts. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  4. Wow! Watching those boosters land was absolutely surreal. Ryoder, where is the link to the replay?
  5. Both the recent run up in stock prices and the even more recent decline have little to do with Trump or his policies. They are a function of good old supply and demand coupled with even more basic fear and greed. After all the years of low interest rates there has been too much cash chasing too few good stocks pushing prices to unjustified levels. The threat of inflation and higher rates was bound to show up sooner or later. Rates can not stay at historic lows forever. It remains to be seen how far stocks will fall. My guess, and it is nothing more than that, is for a months long period of mostly declines till fall when they will settle in at about the level they were at just before Trump's election. That is still pretty high. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  6. That is the way I felt about the recent selection of a new Conservative Party leader here in Canada. So I spent $20 on a membership and got a vote. Even though I will likely never vote in an election for a conservative, I did have the pleasure of seeing my preferred candidate chosen as leader. Instead of a "white nationalist" or a "businessman". 7. Good question. And how is it that an independent Senator can run for a major party nomination? You would think some term of party membership would be a requirement. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  8. In that case you should understand what I mean when I say that the Pats are starting to remind me of the "Damned Yankees".
  9. While I do agree with your feelings about people overloading canopies beyond their design limits that's not the issue I'm trying to gauge here. I really want to know if it's true that riggers, especially sport skydive riggers, are imposing age limits. I know it's a forum and thread drift is inevitable, but I'm trying to isolate this one question only.
  10. As far as I know the US anthem is also gender neutral. Congratulations to you as well. The word freemen is in there, but all the definitions I can find for it are gender neutral. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  11. I'm looking for a discussion and to find out if there is a move among riggers to reject canopies based on age. But I'd like to know what you mean by added liability and what might cause it.
  12. I'm not talking about ancient designs. The original PDRs are getting older now. Tempos and Ravens etc have not been made for years, but the design is not really obsolete. The FCI line of Mavericks, Firelites and others is still in production. I'm only asking if you have an AGE limit. Please don't confuse the issue with discussions about obsolete designs.
  13. You should do just fine with this container for a first rig. It will hold canopies that are appropriate for your weight. The only problem is that you may want to do a few more transition jumps on rental gear first. You are going in the right direction, you just need to find the best road to use. BTW I'm 60 years old. I also am not jumping gear that is older than me. But I would have no problem with gear older than you!
  14. I think it may be time for a poll of riggers on this one. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  15. Agreed. America will decide in November if it wants to elect Rs and follow Trump or elect more Ds to block him. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  16. Well, he does tweet and talk fast. Move? I disagree. There as been little real motion, except the movement of large amounts of hot hair. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  17. First, get over the idea that there is an age limit on reserves. A Raven II with Spectra lines is a bit of a tight fit in a J3 but if there was one in there before it will likely still fit another one. I would consider it a good choice for you. An older Tempo 210 would work as well. The Swift Plus is 175 and packs about the same as the other two. Of the more modern reserves a PDR176 is about as big as you could fit. They pack larger than Ravens or Tempos. You could go one size larger with a low bulk reserve. I'm guessing you are on a budget if you are using a container that came with an older PD 9 cell. At your weight I would not be afraid to use a Raven II or a Tempo 210. There is nothing wrong with older nylon if your rigger inspects it and says it's airworthy. I pack dozens of Tempos and Ravens every year. They work just fine. And yes, Raven II are 218 (although there are said to be differences in how that is measured) They pack smaller than PDRs and other newer canopies. The Javelin sizing chart does not consider them because they are no longer in production.
  18. That's easy. Communism is completely dead in Russia. Russia has not been even a little socialist for well over a decade. It is a right wing oligarchy. Just like Trump wants for America. It's mostly white and Christian, especially the people holding power, and it is it a perpetual fight with it's Islamic population. People like Ron, and also all white nationalists now see Putin's Russia as a natural ally. Russia is a northern country full of white skinned milk drinkers. And, it's not a "shithole" country. What's not to like? Russia is no longer the enemy. Mohammed's followers are the new boogeymen. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  19. Just wondering exactly how far you go in opposing progressivism. Are you one of the staunch conservatives that is still upset about the "New Deal"? I kind of agree with you that the Ds are currently offering no real policy direction for America. They seem to be almost completely stuck on being anti-Trump and little else. Of course that is largely because Trump pretty much sucks all of the air out the room.... Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  20. I do believe that Marc has already proven his head is completely fact proofed. He has it wrapped in an official Hannity tinfoil hat to keep the truth out and the lies in. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  21. OK, I'm going to open a large can of worms here. How big is the reserve in your Javelin J3? You are wondering if a 190 is appropriate for you as a main. I'll bet your back up plan is quite a bit smaller......
  22. Thank God that's long gone and never coming back. I remember those days, and I smoked back then. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  23. Pouches for student radios.
  24. Watched/listened to about the last third while drinking wine and doing some (non-rigging) sewing. I thought it was a great game except for the no show defense. But the Eagles did show up just in time to crush the forces of Evil!
  25. In the last few years at our small dz we've had two people use two different PD 9 cell canopies as transition/learning canopies. Both were successful and moved on. Both were small females weighing less than 140 lbs. Consult the old timers on your DZ. They will know if it is good for you.
