  1. Exactly. And part of any fix will be for the system to shut down if it gets inconsistent data from one of the soon to be two sensors. Boeing has orders for 5000 of these aircraft. If they get built Mr. Murphy can pretty confidently predict with his law that bad things will happen to some of them. Covering up inherent air frame flaws with pilot over ruling software is just the wrong way to go in a commercial airliner when it is possible, but more expensive to do the right thing. It was not necessary except as a way of not losing sales to the competition in the short term. Both Boeing and the FAA took their eyes off the ball. And the FAA waiting to ground them after the second one fell out of the sky is inexcusable. If they felt data was lacking then they should have grounded them pending data. It is unheard of these days for airliners to crash like this. And the coincidence of both of them being this brand new model is more than enough of a data point. This whole affair stinks to high heaven.
  2. I can't imagine investing the time to watch that. Here is a summary. Hey, it worked for Barr...... https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/we-got-alex-jones-deposition-video-it-was-a-predictable-disaster_n_5c9d06fae4b03218ee1ca133
  3. Wall absolutely work, they do what they are designed to do. That is provide work for construction companies and make frustrated right wingers feel like something is being done to assuage their overwrought fearfulness.
  4. This argument is tiring. And both sides here are making unsupportable claims. Which is one of the big problems in this matter. No one really knows the costs, no one really knows the difference in intensity of weather events caused by increased CO2. We do know the general effects. So instead of focusing on our differences why don't we focus on what we can agree on? Clearly the consumption of fossil fuels is not going to end anytime soon. So far the only thing that has been accomplished is a modest slowing in the rate of increase of it. The best we can do is to concentrate on two things. First is adapting to the changes that are coming. Namely higher sea levels, more energetic weather, and changes in the amount and location of arable land. These things are already affecting us and they are going to increase no matter what we do now. There are going to be winners and losers here and some of the losers are going to become refugees. The generals understand this and are making their plans now. The second thing is increasing our so far pathetic efforts at moving away from energy sources that release long stored CO2. This is ongoing right now. And many people are seeing it as urgent even if some people scoff at it. I'm not sure why the right wing of America finds the idea of less reliance on fossil fuels so offensive. It is actually common sense. Despite new methods of extraction causing a temporary boom in production they will run out. Or at least become more and more expensive to access. (except coal, there is no end in sight for the coal supply). This vital matter has been reduced to a battle ground in the culture wars. But the fact is you can have your cake and eat it too. We can, and are developing more efficient methods of harnessing energy from cleaner sources. In the meantime we will keep right on burning the oil as we need while we transition. I seriously consider this fight to be just for the sake of fighting. No one except perhaps a small number of the "greenest radicals" is giving up a single thing. Myself included. So stop worrying about the left or the right getting their way. There will be no winners or losers in this fakest of fake fights.
  5. Then why is the title of the thread a political screed? Why is it an attack on AOC and company's plan? That is not designed to spark a discussion of energy options. In any case the energy revolution will not be a revolution at all. It is and will be an evolution. I have not studied the "green new deal" in detail. But I'm fairly certain it does indeed contain ideas that are impractical. It does pretty much what you are trying to do here, but on a larger scale. Start a political fight. Edit to add, The "new deal" seems to be a group of aspirations with no real plan to achieve any of them. I don't see any magical thinking in it. I don't see any any thinking at all. Just goals.
  6. I've had enough of you now. And I just remembered I now have the power of ignoring you and not ever seeing you in my feed. Bye.
  7. Is the aircraft safe and stable with the MCAS shut down? Or will some pilot disable it on a climb out because its annoying. And then have a departure stall.
  8. What you are is a man with a political position that you are trying to advance. Your interest in the mechanics of energy resources is completely secondary to that. You do not start with a curiosity about energy, you start with a pre-determinined belief and then look for ways to prove it.
  9. I get annoyed at people who say that it is more dangerous to drive to the DZ than it is to jump. Just shut up if you need to tell stories like that.
  10. This whole "deciding vote" this is complete bullshit. It took three R defections and all three of them voted their conscience and for what they knew was best for the nation.
  11. So, Billy is a True Trump Believer? No, it can't be. Billy is far too cynical to fall down that hole.
  12. A bunch of right wing snowflakes. Whining because they think their message isn’t getting out.
  13. Capitalism and Darwinism/evolution and survival of the fittest have a lot in common. As social animals we need to both use it to our advantage and to control for unwanted effects. One of the ways most societies do this is by spreading some of the wealth around. If we don’t do this a collapse will happen and the 1% will not be able to thrive either. A whole different group of people would survive but live poorer lives.
  14. Those are all pretty much run of the mill conservative R positions. Nothing revolutionary in them. What is different is what you have identified, the carnival barker aspect. Apparently a lot of people who like those policies also like amoral carnival barker types as well. The could have picked Rubio or Cruz and got the same policies, but no. They preferred Trump. Makes me wonder about just what makes conservatives tick.
  15. It's not like the US has never tried to influence Russian politics. Or other country's as well. But yes, Putin clearly outwitted the bloated, over confident, Muslim distracted security apparatus of America. Wonderful powerful high tech tools. No vision.
  16. I would seem to be about a third of the US population that pretty much feels that way. It is a little surreal, but is rapidly becoming the new normal.
  17. Someone told them to...... In that special way that capos use to give orders.
  18. Most likely there was no collusion. Also most likely at least some of Trumps band of sycophants attempted to collude. The Russians would have no reason to do that though. They could make all the trouble they wanted to without any help from untrustworthy clowns.
  19. I think we can all be fairly certain by now that the Russians were not stupid enough to work with Trump or the team of clowns he surrounds himself with. That they worked for his benefit is another matter. Mueller report will contain much more information that has not been released. It will all come out in the end.
  20. Two kinds of posters I hate, or at least dislike. Look at me and all the wonderful shit in my wonderful life types, and constantly moaning FML types who usually post political memes. It's all about balance, insight, and being in touch with day to day reality. Most people do just fine. Of course everyone make some posts that could fall into either category because that stuff is part of life too.
  21. Skymasters were actually of hybrid construction. ZP top skins and f-111 type ribs and bottom skins. Just like PD Navigators. Large docile student canopies are easy to land for more than one reason.
  22. Be careful, you are spreading false information. Vectran is considered dimensionally stable. A Vectran lined canopy stays in trim. If anyone is confused and wants to better understand line material characteristics they should go to the PD website and read their excellent article explain it.
  23. I'm not surprised. Billy likes things that are shocking. He collects them. I'm a little surprised that he shared the word here. I'll bet you he thought about it long and hard. Anyone who knows how to search for .tor files could easily find that file anyway. There is a huge audience for things that are forbidden.
  24. Forgive me if I'm wrong. The formula for determining Congressional representation and therefore EC members is complicated. But I believe it is based on population numbers derived from the census. The census counts the population of residents, not citizens. Therefore States with large numbers of immigrants, potentially illegal, will have an advantage. And they are counted at face value, not 3/5s each!
  25. The first airline cancellation of orders for the aircraft has been announced. It's only a small airline that I've never heard of and it's only for 50 copies. That's probably not enough to start a cascade. But they are claiming their passengers will not fly in it. This will start to put pressure on other airlines to follow suit. https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/22/business/boeing-737-max-garuda-cancel/index.html
