Skydive Perris VS Skydive Elsinore
gowlerk replied to David Wang's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There has been a DZ at Elsinore since the beginning of time. Literally. I've only jumped there once, but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it. It is a smaller operation than Perris, but still large by most people's standards. I would be surprised if there is a large price difference between them though. -
There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

That is pretty much the most self centred and short sighted synopsis of the situation I have seen from you. We know, you don't give a shit about the future, you'll be dead. Got it. -
As usual Americans only look at what happened in America. What she is actually known for in the world is inspiring and leading school aged people to speak out and protest. The media did not invite her to speak at the UN they just covered it. She is bringing a large amount of attention to an issue that the American right wing is trying to sweep under the rug and ignore. Of course it is far too large for that tactic to work, so why not spread hate for the "rude" 16 yo who dares to challenge the men in dark suits?

So, is Trump upset? IDK, but his campaign people posted this:

And a Nobel Prize winning economist living in WV has more say than two hillbillys in Texas. The problem as I see it has nothing to do with who has the right to vote or how the votes are weighted in favour of less populated States. The problem is low turnout and low motivation coupled with and partially caused by deliberate suppression of voting. 54.9 percent voted in 2016, 55.5 in 2012. That small difference probably gave Trump the presidency. And by the way, a college graduate is more than twice as likely to vote as someone with less than a grade twelve education.

Yup, what's the big deal? Why does she matter? It's simple, she matters because of the reaction she gets.
-
Trump? Thinks SHE has an anger problem? I've never heard her talk about locking people up or building walls. Or nasty people. HOW DARE HE!!!!!!!!

You were not paying attention. But that's because the USA was not paying attention. She was already a force in the rest of the western world. The Beatles didn't matter until they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show either.

You certainly are constant.

Skydiving videos are so expensive at Perris...
gowlerk replied to David Wang's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Being current is everything in skydiving. Especially when you are a student. If you can not afford to do your AFF program in less than one or two months at the most then I would strongly encourage you to save up until you can. -
You can have your pet peeves and I'll have mine. Okay?

Another honour for the young lady. I think it's wonderful how she has overcome what many see as an impairment and used it as a virtue! https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/greta-thunberg-time-person-of-the-year-2019-1.5392006 https://time.com/person-of-the-year-2019-greta-thunberg/

No, I just avoid using the word decimate when I mean devastate or reduce greatly. I try to use language more precisely than that in general. To me the inclusion of "deci" in the word means 10. I see the root of the word very clearly. Not that I know Latin.

Apparently they are doing it with literally as well: lit·er·al·ly /ˈlidərəlē,ˈlitrəlē/ Learn to pronounce adverb adverb: literally in a literal manner or sense; exactly. "the driver took it literally when asked to go straight across the traffic circle" informal: used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true. "I was literally blown away by the response I got" Translate literally to Use over time for: literally And.... Merriam Webster has an article about this madness: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/misuse-of-literally

You are a pretty smart guy. You must be right and everyone else must be wrong. But even though I know in my heart that your superior intellect could never mislead you I still have this little niggle in the back of my mind that maybe, just maybe, your belief system on this has more to do with politics than is does with science. I think I may be a little brain washed by the "scientific community". You know, the tall forehead types who actually do real research and use numbers and stuff. -
Historically it has mostly been used to sell products.

Do as you wish. There is a controversy over it. I have chosen my side.

The only definition I choose to recognize is the correct one in ten. Mostly for the reason that just because it is misused does not mean that misuse is correct.

The vagueness and open ended quality of your posts, something I know you do on purpose, is what leads to needing to take your posts "literally". The title of the thread, and the content of your OP are what is guiding me. You must be a land turtle but you try to be slippery like a swamp dwelling turtle.

Yes, the military understands that the tools of war are not toys.

And probably the question as well.
