This is the escalation that I warned of when it started. It will not end well. Putin is a desperate despot with powerful tools and a view to having his name remembered long after he is gone.

Who will fly them?

Student debt in Canada may be a somewhat smaller problem. But not much.
-
Don't worry. We've got your back with the tar sands. All we need is more rail tank cars to deliver it with.

The doctors were the main opposition to it in Canada. It was a hell of a fight. But most politicians on both sides supported it. The government of the day was conservative. That was key.
-
Maybe. We have survived 70 years of fusion weapons so far. I'm not so certain that can continue.

Yes, it missed the mark by miles. Yes healthcare is expensive. I'm not sure why you think it is pork though. In Canada healthcare is the single largest government expenditure. Healthcare in total is 12.7 % of our GDP. $8,017 CAD per person. In the US it is 19.7% of GDP. 12,500 USD per person. 4.1 trillion in 2020. You are being ripped off and your politicians are being paid to keep it that way.
-
Sure. But it is meaningless because like everything about the UN it is powerless.

We are talking about healthcare. Yes publicly funded healthcare is socialism. Publicly funded schools are socialism. Publicly funded fire departments are socialism. The list can get longer. Some people claim healthcare is a basic right. I would not go that far myself, but I would say that nations which invest in it have better results for less money than yours does. And it adds a certain quality of compassion to society and even takes a lot of stress away from the middle class who always end up paying for everything. They are both Peter and Paul.

Excellent. A new artificial reef for marine life.

I suppose you will be annoyed if I were to ask where those numbers and analysis are from. If not from a right wing news source, where?

Elon can do math. He makes batteries and he is filthy rich from doing it. I wonder who has the best math and who is using "alternative fact math"?

I have heard a rumour that not every meme posted on the interwebs contains accurate information.

Which was never fully implemented in many red states. Because poor people in those places don't deserve expanded medicare.

I looked like 'roid rage to me. Maybe he was bulking up for a role.

I am surprised to find that this is currently the case. Despite the valuable materials contained in them most batteries are trashed. There is recycling starting up now though and it is hard to imagine that when large numbers of raw materials in the form of used up batteries become available the cost of reclaiming the metals will not go down. Yes, as far as I know turbine blades are garbage when used up.

You either believe that CO2 levels need to come down to avoid bad effects in the future or you do not. Targets are set because we need goals to accomplish anything. My belief is that the current targets are not going to be met, but they will result in progress being made. Some people deny there is a problem, some deny there are solutions, some just ignore the whole thing and let others work on it. And some exaggerate the issue and claim it is an existential issue. Batteries are chock full of valuable recyclables. The hardware is made of largely recyclable metals as are cars now. There are discarded cars strewn about the landscape now, but the vast majority of the 100s of millions of cars and trucks produced but no longer functional have been shredded and fed into blast furnaces long ago. The same will happen to EVs. Although they will likely take longer to wear out because they don't suffer from the inherent problems of ICE powered vehicles.

The word doesn't really fit anywhere but the place it came from. It's roots are in a desire to punish mostly overly entitled people for misbehavior that they have long been able to get away with because of their status in society. The word "culture" was added in order to deride it as something only unimportant people care about.

The state of Florida avoids having an income tax largely due to tourism. Disney is one of their largest attractions. Disney is a huge employer. When you make a deal with the devil, or the mouse, it comes at a price.

Apparently the troll is gleefull over the embargo forcing compromises to be made? Surely he can see that it will also hasten the move to renewables. And that a shortage will result in less consumption, not more.

Roseanne was not fired for being a Trump supporter. That did annoy many people, but she was fired for making racist tweets.
-
But that would be "cancelling" them wouldn't it? How outrageous!

Similarly I wonder if they fully understand what is going to happen in America if individual states are suddenly allowed to make abortion illegal. Do they not see that as soon as people start having to go to jail there will be a gigantic backlash?

Nicely written piece Bill. I would add that part of the anger lately is from the publicity surrounding the employees of Disney putting pressure on management to do more to embrace diversity. That puts the company squarely into the culture wars and makes them a target. They were forced to choose sides or they would not have.
