I can't...I wish I could. But I've got school books weighing me down...and I've let my bio grade slip a bit, and have to bring it back up. But you go jump today, and say hi to the sky on my behalf. I'll be waiting to hear about my proxy jump. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

oh hell YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Deedy, thanks for making such a difference to your brother. You rock. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

I've had scary dreams like that, only with guys in ropes coming down and trying to rescue me. Did you notice the Tiger painted on the lead chopper? Big cool points from me for the kitty nod... Yes, intimidating for sure. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

A quite simple thing today, really...I woke to kitties snuggling with me because it was cool last night. A pretty normal occurance in my household, kitty snuggles are, but Penguin was cuddled with Esse who was cuddled with me. For those who know Pengy's story, you'll realize what a huge event that was. Made me smile this morning. 'Course, picking up my math books to study sorta tainted that, but then Simon crawled into my bathrobe and took a long nap snuggled there. I'm loved by my kitties, and that's a dear thought to have. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

No kidding. Down she went - twice! Poor girl - and absolutely no padding to cushion the fall, either. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Jer, I was under the impression that California had a civil union thing which was legally binding - it came out in January of '05, iirc. It's the same thing as a marriage legally speaking, just isn't named that. Takes 6 months to dissolve, community property, survivor's rights, spouse's rights, things like that are included. So is it just the definition of marriage that the court upheld? Or is it the concept? Both? Neither? Because we definitely do have something in place approximating a marriage for gays and lesbians. Not sure any will be forthcoming, you know? Apparently, there was no crime, the victim of the crime wasn't underage or wasn't under the age of consent, and there's an election in a few weeks. Not sure, Linz, that any clarity will be forthcoming.... What bothers me (and it would bother me if it were either party), is when stuff like this comes out, and an immediate witch hunt goes on. This person, that person, the other person tries to make political hay, and often the truth gets lost in the whole fiasco. So what's the truth here...??? What are the facts? What are the indisputable issues we're dealing with? $90K found in someone's lasagna pan? A man having a long term relationship with a hooker and their pad is a madame's den? A man sending IMs and emails to someone who is over 18? What the fuck, over? Let's look at the degree of crime, here... "Oh, oh, child, things are gonna get easier, Oh, oh, child, things are gonna get brighter..." Oh, oh, child (There are different versions of that song...all are great.) The theme from Working Girl sung by Carly Simon: "We're coming to the edge, Running on the water, Coming through the fog, Your sons and daughters. Let the river run, Let all the dreamers Wake the nation. Come, the New Jerusalem. Let the River Run Carly Simon "I see skies of blue..... clouds of white Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world. It's a Wonderful World Louis Armstrong Those are the top three of my "happy songs", all about encouragement, dreaming, seeing things in a better light...and just all around good songs. If you don't know them (and you might not; they're sorta older than you...), look them up. Give 'em a listen. And see what you think. Just read through this thread...and while I haven't got much, I do have enough to send out a check tomorrow. Thanks, Tim, for doing what you do; touching the sky with newbies in tow, and jumping into the blue water for them too...you're pretty cool. And I don't even know you! So.....was he over 18 or not? Am I a criminal or not? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Did he send IMs to a male who was of majority? If so, then that issue should be dropped, if there was no criminal activity. If the page (or pages) were not over 18, then yes, it's perhaps criminal activity. So. Was he over 18? Or under? Or does it not matter? And if we are to be convicted simply on sending salacious IMs, email, and text messages to others of age, then I've committed that crime quite a few times. I wasn't aware that you couldn't send dirtytalk email to people who are of majority age. (And lest I be mistaken, I am simply asking for clarification of a crime. If there was one, let him have it full force. If there wasn't one, then I think we can look at this as a witch hunt, purely politically motivated, and a sorry state of affairs but one to be expected in an election year with the election so hotly contested....) Senator Responds to CNN Hit Piece On Global Warming
Michele replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Sorry I'm late returning to the thread... Tell ya what. Why don't you debate it with one of my science professors, who does research at Cedar's and teaches my class because she loves teaching, and is not a creationist, or a republican (that I can tell; no, I gave no litmus test to her...I just like her class) that termites are not major contributors to the C02 issue. And for that matter, make her take that question off the test; considering I got the answer "correct", having her remove it will lessen my point total in the class. That's all right...I can spare the points. What happened, bill, is you missed the sarcasm in my original post. And instead, decided to lump in lots of other things - ie republicanism, creationism, and whatnot - instead of debating the topic I raised. Now, I realize your point was in turn sarcastic, as well. However, I'd've rather seen you refute, if possible, the termite issue rather than jump around and distract from the issue. Or is it because you don't want to concede that there are many different angles to the C02 problem, and many different causes to global warming? I met the sweetest dog yesterday at the bank. He was a dog in training. Happy dog, clear eyed, tail up and wagging, just a dear dog. Big. Came from a shelter, and is being trained for service assistance (not sure which, but not blind, I don't think...). Male, broad chested, smily dog faced floppy eared teddy bear. Spoke to his owner for a bit. Apparently, this dog had been removed from it's original home because of conditions. Over the last year, this dog has been socialized extensively, and the owner let me put the dog through some commands...sit, stay, come, up, down, stay and wait...in the parking lot of the bank. The dog, despite his owner being there, was completely willing to follow my commands, and to get lovin from me. His one bad habit is when he wants lovin or when he's being congratulated on a "good job", he leans into the leader (the person running the commands), and sits on their feet. The dog even let me look inside his mouth (a very big trust thing for any animal). I even placed my forearm into his mouth, and all he did was try to get it out - no aggression and not a damned thing to concern me whatsoever. A big, sloppy kisser, this giant, square shouldered, triangle headed pooch was one of the dearest dogs I've met in a while. And yes, he was a pit bull. A pit who'd been removed from his original home because of poor conditions. A pit who had ever reason to not trust people, and not believe that people were his friends and companions. But because of the owner he had, and the extensive socializing and re-conditioning, this dog just might make the cut to service for handicapped folk. What a sweet dog...and a good success story. just thought I'd share yet another experience I have had with pits that wasn't a negative one... Well, I think it's the termites' fault. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~ -
Not sure about the burial, but the services will be taking place on private property - the girls' homes. Which means that trespass laws will be in effect, and as these are generally farms or farmettes, I'm not sure how close the Phelps' group can get without trespassing. Again, not sure about the burials; they might be on private property, as well. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

That was fun. I've hugged Amazon, and I've been hugged by her. Good stuff, there. Hugs - real hugs - are so important. It's the human touch, which tends to get sluffed aside for reasons I've never been able to comprehend. But not the A frame, I'm scared of touching you or having you touch me kind...the real kind. Those rock. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

They're not comparable, per se. However, ROK is citing a series of studies which demonstrated that serial killers showed a higher propensity towards enuresis (bed wetting far beyond normal limits) and fire fascination (in some instances arson convictions). The triad, as it's known, measures those who have been convicted of serial killings (not a spree killing, mind you...) has been found in some degree or other in all serial killers that have consented to be interviewed. This grouping of behavior shows a tendancy towards victimization (the torturing of animals), impulse control (enuresis), and enjoyment of distruction (arson, fire fascination). It was thought that if one could identify precursor behavior, one might be able to intervene and prevent serial killers from acting on their fantasies. However, it was also discovered that many children had this triad but were not serial killers; therefore, it was concluded, that the degree of the triad was important, but also they concluded that it might not be predictable precursor behavior. I'm wondering...with all the speculation about who knew what when (and that seems murky at best...), and with the timing of the release (again, easily seen as a political move, even if it wasn't one)... Could it have been possible that some folks who knew before now never said anything because they didn't want to be seen as gay-bashing? IOW, someone knows something but didn't say anything for fear of being seen as homophobic, anti-gay, et cetera? Don't know if it happened, but it's a possibility, methinks...so much PC in the world that people don't speak out for fear of retribution (not that that is a reason to withhold info at all...). I wonder. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Interesting (albeit unconfirmed) information regarding the Amish school shooting. The shooter, in a conversation with his wife while the man was holding the girls hostage, stated he had molested 2 little girls when he was 12 (I believe they were relations, but not sure), had been tormented by guilt, and plagued by dreams of him molesting girls again. He further stated (although its unclear as to if it were in the same conversation or in one of the notes he left behind) that he thought God hated him and took his preemie daughter from them because of him (she had died several years ago). I might have that last part wrong; it might be that he hated God... And the latest information is that 5 have died, and others still in critical condition. One family lost one daughter with another in critical condition, one family lost two daughters. Horrific, tragic, utterly needless shooting, to some of the most peaceful people imaginable. The "Plain People" culture is an awe-inspiring, quiet, joining of life and faith, and one which I personally admire (and am unable to emmulate in the least). To victimize the least of this comparatively peaceful population is apalling. I am sickened and saddened by this whole event. I understood what you meant... Victimology is a soft science; it details what a bad guy looks for with a particular end in mind. It is something that is very easily spotted in some serial killers' mo (i.e. Bundy, The Green River Killer) and not so apparent with others (The Night Stalker, Gein). The beginning of understanding who is a victim and why does indeed give potential victims a slight advantage in understanding why they might be victims. That's not blaming the victim. There are other avenues of victimology, including rape, spree murders (like school killings), workplace violence, and so on. Again, it has far more to do with the bad guy and understanding his/their motives, and does NOT blame the victim whatsoever. It's a bit like understanding why a lioness culls the pack for a certain animal; there are different things they actively look for, and will stalk that which they find attractive for whatever reason (i.e. ill, unable to fight back, weak, infirm...). That's pure victimology; it does not blame the animal for being weak; it does, however, demonstrate the predatory nature of the lionness. Understanding why people do what they do necessarily includes understanding who they do it to, or who would make a likely target. Not blaming the victim in any way, just understanding it more fully. North Korea Says It Will Conduct a Nuclear Weapon Test
Michele replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Bingo...I think that's what's going on. I'm really bad at predictions, but I'm thinking that it will go off (if it's there to go off) on or about Election Tuesday...failing that, at Thanksgiving. Gonna get interesting...and I'm sincerely hoping they don't decide to sell a nuke to one of the terrorist groups hanging around; that would be a serious, serious problem.
