  7. That picture is of a flocking jump. Atmonauti is a a much sharper angle than this. The picture attached, from the frick fly website clearly depicts the difference between the two. Although I too believe that they were doing this back in 97', that jump was not atmonauti. Flocking is more head down follow the leader. Sorry for the correction -drew To add to this... Olav took a picture during this string of jumps that was used in many many advertisements. You may remember it... A bunch of people wearing the red t-shirts with something nectar written on them, maybe "Ultimate Nectar" (i forget the exact company name)... Also, the same jump footage can be found in one of the chronicles videos, possible under a segment dedicated to flocking (if my memory serves me right). Definitely worth checking out. Again, I hate to correct, but if we don't, people will think that they're freeflying when the doing rw, and tracking when they're head down. Know what I mean?
  8. I am a certified laptop technician... Three possible problems... the driver is probably not compatible with xp... or maybe there's a problem with the slot (same as mother/logic board $$$) or it's the card itself. Remove the driver from the device manager... Remove the card, restart the machine, insert the cd, exit out of the automatic setup application. Insert the card, it will search the pc/cd for the driver, it will install the driver, it should work. If it doesn't, go to the manufacturer of the card's website and download the most recent driver, try the whole process again, but point to the downloaded folder instead of the cd during the new hardware found process, and if it still doesn't work, return it and get a different card (different manufacturer, the whole nine). If it still doesn't work, try using a different type of card entirely (ethernet, modem, firewire adapter), to verify that there isn't a problem with the pcmcia slot. Let me know what happens. -drew ...another case of "Mac-Envy"! ouch!
  9. I say get the lines checked and replaced... also, I've notice significant improvement in a canopy's characteristics when your chest strap is loosened. It may stir up some crazy debate, but I've found that to be true. This really only works if you pull down the slider first. -drew
  10. Is there a distinction here between flying on your belly and learning RW? I see AFF teaching you more about safe deployment position, and how to recover from a front and back flip, and barrel roll, and a little of how to track. I think that once you get your license, your understanding of those basics of skydiving are what make you safe, whether you go freeflying or rw. I believe that learning freefly first will make you a safer rw flier, and at the same time learning rw first will make you a safer freeflyer (there are of course a couple of subtle exceptions to this statement, but it's overall generally true). Either way, it's that basic, elementary heads up understanding of keeping an eye on everyone in your group, having a dive plan including break off and deployment altitudes, maintaining altitude awareness, seperating at pull time, and being a heads up and predictable canopy pilot, which will keep you and everyone around you safe. Choose the discipline you want to learn, the one that interests and intrigues you the most. Ask questions, watch video, and of course, listen to your fellow skydivers. Just don't forgot those basic and extremely important things that you learned as a student, and continue to learn each time you jump. RW or Freefly... it really doesn't matter. -drew
  11. I had 26 jumps... I never learned how to do rw...
  12. Go for the pond! Just joking... The swoops look great. In fact, I have yet to see many jumpers with your size canopy, wingloading, and experience pulling off such consistent swoops. Now we just need to sort out your girl/shriek/cheer thingamagiggee... right John? I actually thought that you had been using your rear risers all this time.
  13. I've had bomber pants, i have a space suit, and I'm saving up for the matter suit... I've seen people sporting the suits and I like both the cut, and the designs a lot. I bet that a ton of people out in spain/europe are jumping the suits, kind of like how people in brazil all jump the rawa helmets... I bet you'll be stoked... another team jumping the suits is Aria, also accessible through the pd website -drew
  14. With practice, you will figure this out... For now, you will want to not wear baggy pants, instead go for a long sleeve shirt and shorts. At least with this outfit you'll have an easier time dropping your legs down. -drew
  15. Right on... Brian Germain sent one up to a jumper at the Ranch for some feedback, and it's a really great looking canopy. Safe Swoops -drew
  16. "Openings on a xaos are a million time better" doesn't suggest that the vx openings are a problem, instead that he found the xaos openings more desireable... "Xaos is starting its swoop with a certain degree of brake input compared to the VX" How can you possibly back up this statement? How can you make these comparisions without having jumped one of the canopies that you're talking about? If someone wants to know the similiarities and differences between the two canopies, they should go out and jump both canopies, and talk to both manufacturers about the canopy's characteristics. We're all really into what we jump, and the companies we support, but when someone is asking for a constructive side by side comparision, it's probably better to leave that to people who have jumped both wings... right?
