I highly endorse the guys at OtherWorldComputing. I've had great dealings with them since they were an infant company. I completely agree. I order from them once a month and have clients and students who order from them every week. Suer good customer service, located in the midwest so shipping is quick to everywhere and the pricing and warranty is awesome.

Why don't skydiver's like Vegas Style Tunnels?

Talk about hanging your dirty laundry out to dry.... sheesh! -
I know someone who was approached in Central Park by someone with a clipboard... they were under the impression that they were going to be in a commercial or something and the person with a clipboard would get a cab for them and send then on their way to the shoot. When the cab pulls up it's the cash cab. The actual game happens just like on tv, but at the end of it, they don't necessarily give you the money. Sometimes they do, but more often then not, you receive a check in the mail a few weeks later.

whatever looks the best on video... how about green, so you can green screen special effects like space ships and airplanes?

learning steps on a stiletto
freeflydrew replied to 2ndgensteinke's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just go slow and keep on jumping... kudos to the person who sold you a stiletto (even if it was a business). Using fronts on your pattern turns will make you lose altitude faster... are you sure that makes sense for learning? How about experimenting up high and not changing anything down low. Here's some advice: Don't become someone who gets hurt because they were too impatient to follow a normal progression towards swooping a canopy... like minimum jump numbers. -
DST is actually optional for each state... most states participate, but some don't: AZ, PR, HI... I think there's another.. maybe Alaska?

Go Roberta!!! I just voted so many times it was crazy!!!! I watched it go from 40% to 60% LOL You don't even need to reload the poll... just apple click submit, then close the window that opens, then apple click submit again. Super easy!!! Even better, try reloading the results page! -
I have the Mac Pro dual core 2 duo 2.66 with 4x250 GB drives and 12 GB of RAM and the machine is unbelievable with everything that it does. (FCE/Aperture, etc.). Also 2 screens, one dell 20" and 1 23" Apple cinema. Other world computing sells Apple cert. RAM for totally reasonable prices, so it's affordable to go really big. I also have a Macbook Pro and it kinda sucks to do editing on it. there's just not enough power... (My wife has the Macbook and its the same... she has 4 gb of memory)

I love your ability to have a normal discussion full of scarcasm and putting words into someone else's mouth... "fun little forum tricks". well done... that really shows a great deal of maturity, seriously Continuing with this discussion, you wrote: "answer this clearly - REGARDLESS of whether or not there is a formal security and whether or not teachers would be (unfairly) expected to protect the kids - do you think a teacher should be able to choose whether he carries or not - for his own personal reasons (that might have nothing to do with protecting the class)?" As far as I'm concerned, anyone can carry a gun (permitted of course). I don't get all bent out of shape about that issue. I don't think anyone has the right to carry a weapon into a school unless the school permits it... It should be the decision of the administrators and heads of school whether or not concealed weapons are allowed campuses and who can carry them. I believe the national trend is that only security officers and police officers are allowed to do that, and I'm sure that there are very sensible reasons for this that trump the argument that "the private citizen that happens to be teaching can choose to take his personal property, even a gun, with him if it doesn't affect his ability to do his job"

First off, I never said ban anything. Thanks for putting words in my mouth. No really, it's cool. I love how I can write one thing and when you repeat it, it's something completely different. I said it wasn't the responsibility of the teachers to carry guns and protect the kids, it is the responsibility of the institution. There's a big difference between that and Banning something. That's my position... get it? If you need me to explain that anymore, let me know, ok? The problem with your example is that all you see is teacher had gun and protected class, but the bigger picture that you are missing is that there was no system of security or protection in place. People who don't belong on campus shouldn't be allowed to wander around, and it's up to the school to provide that protected environment. Anyway, like I also said, I work at a school, and am surrounded my teachers who think it's ridiculous to consider that they should carry weapons into a school. (I went to the faculty room and asked around just to get an idea of people's thoughts) I also suggested that schools should increase security and install surveillance. For example, we are in the middle of installing a $200,000 HD surveillance system. Over the past 4 years we have developed a security team of Police Officers, some full time and some part time. Our security team is the real deal, and they carry real guns. The city police also show their presence on campus. We've never had an incident on this campus, but the Board of Trustees feel that it is necessary to have the security system in place. We even go so far as to practice campus lock-downs in case something happens here and we need to protect the kids. You see, at this school, educating is the responsibility of the teachers and security is the responsibility of the security staff.
-
Yeah, we all know that in those 2 examples, kids shot up other students... but I really doubt that school violence is actually increasing, or that it warrants teachers carrying guns, and would like to see statistics proving otherwise. Again, I believe that teachers are there to educate students. It's the job of the institution to protect it's community... 2 different sets of responsibilities. thats why many schools in high crime areas have metal detectors at the doors and guards sometimes armed instead of teachers with weapons.
-
Teachers having guns is a stupid idea. If schools are concerned about the safety of the students, they should hire security guards, invest in a video surveillance system and do a better job of limiting visitors access to buildings and grounds during school hours. I work at a school and this is the approach of most of the schools around the NYC area. Teachers are educators, not security guards. If a teacher has to carry a gun to protect themselves or their students, there is a much bigger problem with that school.

Why do you think that? Do you really think the UN holds sway over our ability to rule ourselves? Every time anything comes up in the UN that negatively effects the US or Israel, the US vetoes it. That pretty much puts an end to that. If you don't know anyone who works at the UN, why do you claim to know how they feel? Why do think that the UN is full of corruption? Who are all of these people? They wink at criminal behavior? What are you basing your argument on that every country involved in the Oil for Food program was looking to profit from the minute it started? Where are you getting this information? Do you even comprehend how big the UN is? Do you know how many organizations make up the UN? You label people as liberals, and write the things you write, but you aren't supporting your statements with anything other than rhetoric. That makes them empty statements. Do you believe that the US government should be held responsible for the rogue behavior of a number of it's soldiers? Probably not, right? Don't we hold the soldiers responsible. I believe that the same applies to UN peacekeepers... by the way, UN Peacekeepers are soldiers from countries around the world who are volunteered by their countries to work for the UN Department of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO). Their salaries are paid for by their countries. Does that mean that their own countries should be held responsible for their actions? Are we going to start yelling, India needs to end! It's full of corruption... didn't you see what those soldiers did? You're right, I don't believe the UN should be held responsible... I think I made that pretty clear in my previous post. I also made clear the reasons why I believe that. I believe the soldiers should be held responsible. Any soldiers that commit crimes should answer to a military court. What is so difficult to understand here? Based on your confusing implication that the UN should be held responsible for the actions of a few rogue soldiers, wouldn't the mean US government be held responsible for the actions of a it's soldiers? Based on your previous post about the troops gang raping the iraqi woman, you're starting to sound a little liberal
-
You don't think that one or two soldiers raping an iraqi woman shouldn't give the US Military a black eye? Just like the sexual offenses in UN Peacekeeping Missions shouldn't give the UN Peacekeepers a black eye? Women in other countries are probably scared that they will be raped by either of these militaries. That's fucked up. Those soldiers should be very very punished, and the US military and UN Peacekeepers and member states should review and change the oversight used to monitor soldiers behavior. Neither incident is any reason to end any organization (US government or UN organization), but rather review problems in conduct of the soldiers. If someone thinks that the US Military or rather Government isn't at fault for the actions of the US soldiers, how can they justify feeling that way towards the UN organization. Same goes for the opposite. I guess in one organization it's wrong for soldiers to rape a woman and in the organization it's sort of wrong or almost wrong? I would think that liberals, conservatives, republican, democrats, or whoever, would all agree that soldiers raping an Iraqi woman gives the US a black eye... What exactly was your point?
-
3 things... 1st why did you write that the "US is a fucking joke"? The irony in your typo. LOL 2nd, I don't worship the UN. I do however respect it as an international organization. 3rd - I know what has happened on UN missions. Is it wrong, yes. Do the people involved deserve to be punished, yes. Are sexual offenses against women prevalent across many African nations regardless of UN presence, yes. Considering that the majority of problems involved troops, doesn't that say more about members of the military from around the world than the UN as an organization?
-
First off, the UN is an organization, not an institution. I know it's a confusing distinction, but at least now you know the correct terminology for it. I bet that you would learn a lot about the United Nations Organization if you went to the headquarters and took a guided tour. At least that way, your posts would appear to come from a more informed position. So after the US led invasion of Iraq in the 90s, the UN, which includes the US, placed sanctions on Iraq. The Oil for Food Program was started so that the citizens of Iraq could have food provided to them.. Remember that the US is part of the UN, and a key contributor to its decision making process and oversight. So the oil was sold, and the money put towards a system which provided food to the Iraqis. At some point in the programs history, unethical decisions were made by upper level people involved which allowed them to profit from the program. The program continued to sell oil and provide food to the iraqis, except now, certain individuals were profiting from this system. Fortunately, it was not the UN organization who took advantage of it, instead a select group of greedy people who basically skimmed from the top. It wasn't the Secretary General, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the World Meteorological Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Labor Organization, or the International Civil Aviation Organization who took advantage here, it was a handful of people directly related to the Oil for Food Program. I think that the UN is so much bigger than this one program and it is funny that you use this specific event to dismiss it as an institution... err organization.
