It would seem he is immune from being "fired" It does not surprise me in the least that the pro-bush-no-matter-what crowd sees no harm at all in this incident. (mistakes have been made but we are making progress blah, blah, blah) It is a bit ironic that the same folks don't want anyone else to have a nuke but hey! We have so many they accidently get flown over our country by mistake

Who's coming to Hazleton this sunday? Scrambles
peckerhead replied to Ashkit's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was thinking about coming up to Hazleton on Sunday but I didn't know about the scrambles. Any more info? I will be coming from Maytown. -
I guess that is where it is subjective. I've had the opportunity to film a lot of TMs before became one. Some looked so bored you had to think their job was the worst in the world, and it distracted from the excitement of the video. Some did so many antics -- fly, swim, , etc. it destroyed the video, plus made it almost impossible to keep a decent fall rate. Then there were those that smiled, made one or two simple gestures that added to the fun. Give me the latter. That is what I am talking about. I recently did one with a real camera hog. The instructor was flapping his arms, pretending to swim, covered his eyes, stuck his thumbs in his ears, pretended to take a nap on the students head (I hate that one) lots of hand gestures, etc. It was like the student wasn't even there. Enthusiasm sure, just don't over do it. The focus should alwaybe on the student.

As a videographer I wish you guys would knock that shit off. The video is about the student , it is not about you. You may think it is cute but when you watch the video it takes the attention away from the star of the show. Just do your job, smile, and pay attention to the skydive. The student paid for an instuctor not a circus clown.

Time to do away with the "coach" rating

>>>D licenced jumpers still need to be signed off by the S&TA to jump with unlicenced jumpers. Phree, please give a credible source for this statement. What do you mean by "signed off"? And I would like to add to the general discussion: a "D" license shows a much higher skill level than a "B" license. We have dumbed-down the Jumpmaster rating and still people are upset? What is up with that? -
Of all the drop zones in the north east this place is by far the most scenic you will find. Incredible views! Ash and Celiene are the best people you will ever meet. Do yourself a favor and visit this way-cool DZ! It is small and laid back but the hospitality is second to none! Big thumbs up!!

Who got wet during water training?
peckerhead replied to skydivermom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Jerry, I did my first into the Clackamas river back in 83 and it was COLD! T-10 mains...Ralph would not let us use the good stuff (paracomanders) Anyway, last weekend my local DZ put 3 loads into the Susquehanna in southern PA. The water is soo much warmer here. Square mains and warm water....These kids are spoiled I tell ya! But...At least they jumped. None of that sissy swimming pool bullshit! Ha! . -

Which EP Method is taught at your DZ?
peckerhead replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did not answer your poll because it depends on the equipment you are using. As a student I did not cutaway at all because there was no pilot chute on the reserve. We simply opened the reserve container and threw the canopy out into the air....Of course at the time the reserve was mounted in front. *Open container, reach behind the canopy and in front of the lines. Throw the canopy opposite the direction of spin. Once I graduated to a rig with a spring loaded pilot chute I was trained to cutaway and pull the reserve. How that was done depended on the rig you were using. It was not uncommon to have different procedures several times each day depending on how many jumps you made or how many rigs you jumped. But if you really think about it things have not really changed that much if you have a pilot chute in your reserve. Old days Cutaway - Pull reserve New school Cutaway - pull reserve How you do it is not that important as long as you have a set procedure that you follow every single time....Have a plan and stick with it. . -
Who got wet during water training?
peckerhead replied to skydivermom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We still do water jumps and everyone who jumps lands in water and gets wet. It should still be a requirement. -
Do you have a favorite time of day to jump?

USPA Executive Director opening
peckerhead replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is there a job description including responsibilities and duties? What are the minimum requirements for this position like education and previous work experience? Will there be an interview process? And who gets to conduct such an interview? Anyway, I will take the job. What's it pay? -

whats so wrong with a round reserve??
peckerhead replied to jasleegoyne's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 8 reserve rides and all but one were on round reserves. They work just fine but I did have about 60 jumps on rounds as mains before my first cutaway. I definetly prefered the landing I had on a square reserve. Depending on the spot and the terrain either one will work but nowadays I prefer to go square. I no longer own a round and I doubt I would ever jump one again but I certainly would not discourage anyone else from jumping them. I have enough time under rounds and I am not into nostalgia. (thank you very much!) With todays "green light spotters" I am just more comfortable with two ram-airs on my back. In my opinion you should still always spot as if you have a round because after all you are really spotting for your freebag and pilot chute, not to mention your cutaway main. If those items land on the DZ then you would likely land a round reserve there as well. If you were in my area I would pack your rig if it passed inspection. Hell, most of our pilots still have rounds as their emergency rigs. Sooo.... They must be OK right? -
Freeflying makes you a better belly flyer?
peckerhead replied to RB_Hammer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First of all stop calling it "belly flying" -
Skydive Orange in VA requires AADs for all jumpers regardless of experience or type of jump being made. Probably not much CRW going on there. Skydive Suffolk in VA also requires AADs for ALL jumpers. DC skydivers/ Hartwood paracenter in VA requires AADs for all jumpers but I don't think they are open anymore. I am sure there are more out there.

USPA's stand on tandem vid requirements????
peckerhead replied to IMGR2's topic in Photography and Video
We charge $95 for a DVD and stills. I get $54 and my slot is paid for ($16 to 10k) The editor gets $5 and the club gets the other $20. It is a small non profit club so it helps to pay the bills. If you do the editing you get the extra $5. When they leave they have an edited DVD and a disk with stills in JPEG. If we are busy we will mail it if they are in a hurry to leave. The club also provides the editing equipment, tv, DVD burner, computer, etc. (not to mention the DZ and the aircraft) One thing I have noticed over the years is that skydivers are much nore critical of the pictures and video than the student is. I have done some videos that I did not think were all that great but the student loved it. I think we need to remember that we are not the customer. Back to the OP in my humble opinion you should have a D license before doing camera work with tandems and I would not be opposed to a camera rating. We are likely only another incident or two away from that happening.
