  1. I don't fear anything, but, I do have a healthy respect for a lot of things.
  2. Kinda like driving a car...... You can't drive a car with out a license.... But, you can't get a license unless you can drive a car! It aint rocket science folks. If you can't do it then pay someone else. I think it puts you at a disadvantage if you don't know how to take care of and maintain your own equipment. You don't have to be able to pack everything out there, but, you should be able to pack the shit that is on your back every time you jump. And I am talking Both Parachutes! Lets get real folks! I would never feel comfortable just dumping my trash off every 120 days and saying " here you deal with it, I am way to stupid!" WTF! If you don't want to pack your own reserve I totally understand, it is a pain in the ass and a lot of work. But, PLEASE get involved. Watch your rigger pack it, understand how it works. Ask questions. When you pull the pin or the cypres pops you should at least have a clue what is going on.
  3. It is perfectly legal to pack your own reserve as long as you do it under the direct supervision of an appropriately rated rigger. I packed my own reserve for nearly 17 years before I got my own ticket. My rigger would supervise and then seal it with his seal. In fact, you must have at least 20 reserve pack jobs before you can get your ticket in the type you are applying for. I have always taken it very seriously and always felt more comfortable either doing it myself or at least watching during the entire process. It aint rocket science.
  4. I am just glad to see that Lodi still offers static line. How many large turbine DZs do that?
  5. In other words, you don't have a clue. You are a pup but you mean well. I rest my case.
  6. I agree, I don't like it. I fold my pilot chute the same way you do with a small twist.... I DO NOT fold the bridle into the pilot chute. I think it is best to keep the bridle and pilot chute seperate. I fold the pilot chute and then s-fold the bridle into the pouch. The PC is last. When you extract the PC to full arm extention the remainder of the bridle is extracted when the PC inflates. I have watched alot of slow- mo video and I am convinced this is the best way. If you fold all that excess bridle into the PC then it is immediately exposed to the realtive wind as soon as you pull the handle out of the pouch. Everything should be in sequence.... first the PC, THEN the bridle, and THEN the pin! IMNSHO!
  7. Tom, you are fortunate to have a turbine at your DZ The reality is most of the small dz's in America are Cessna drop zones. We are the backbone of the sport and we are the reason the sport still exists. We like to go to boogies and it is fun to jump out of big planes. But afterwards we go back to our Dz and jump our Cessnas. We piss in the porta potty and drink beer out of the fridge. I respect your posts but it seems to me you are out of touch with reality.
  8. OK! Well, in that case Craig Newschaffer is a fucktard. Autism is not a disease
  9. Who cares? His employers had the right to fire him, they did, and good riddance to him. I care! Who has the right to tell me what I can or can't watch or listen to? Since when is Al sharpton the moral authority? He has enough skeletons in his closet. Imus was an independent thinker and he took shots at everybody Don't like it? Don't watch it, but don't tell me what I cant watch because it is none of your business. Imus raised millions of dollars for kids with Autism. He led the charge to get the death benefit for Iraq war vets raised from a pitiful 12k to 250k! He raised millions for kids with cancer and the Imus ranch foundation helped kids of all colors. Nobody in the media has done more to help those less fortunate. Ever hear about the center for the intrepid? He said something thoughtless and stupid and he appologized. Good riddance? Good grief!
  10. I used to jump off the garage roof with a bed sheet. Fortunately my wingloading was such that I never suffered serious injuries.
  11. I am sure you did not mean to be insensitive but Autism is not a disease. My son is considered a high functioning Autistic or Asbergers and he is perfectly healthy. He will live as long as anyone. He does not have any diseases. My son is light years ahead of his peers when it comes to math, science, video games and computers. But he is way behind in other areas mostly dealing with social interaction. During recess he will sit on the playground by himself, he does not like sports, and does not have any friends. It breaks my heart but we are actually very lucky because he does not have any of the behavior problems associated with Autism. He is polite and soft spoken, and he is affectionate and interacts well with adults. He is truly the sweetest kid you could ever meet. Most people that meet him on a casual basis do not even know there is something different about him. But, you are right about food alergies. We had tests done and we found he was sensitive to certain types of food mostly casien and gluten. (dairy and wheat) About two years ago we changed his diet and immediately saw improvement in several areas. Certain types of food alergies will make some people "space out" and affect their ability to stay focused and pay attention. Diet and physical activity have been very helpful in our situation.
  12. The US Forest Service also uses Otters for Smoke Jumpers. They own 3 and have 3 on contract according to one of my buddies, I thought they had all been replaced with Sherpas. They also have a turbine DC-3 in McCall I am not sure about the BLM, they may also have otters for smoke jumpers. In 1994 I was on a fire assignment in Alaska and I flew in an Otter used for crew transport. It was not set up for jumping and had seats. I saw several like this in Anchorage. http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/people/smokejumpers/aircraft.html
  13. * You bring "Mary Jane" into my house, she better be that killer green shit from Oregon! Idaho is just a suburb of Oregon and Washington. Not quite cool enough to be Montana. Not enough powder to be Utah or Wyoming. No gambling or brothels so it aint no Nevada. Just a bastard step child of the neighbors. Lets not mention the tunnel into Canada....... Big wink, oh yeah! Big wink! PS it's a weird shape....Whats up with that?
  14. I have just never seen a snub- nosed one like that before so it seemed odd to me.
  15. Well, I don't compete or anything like that but I think I got the hang of it.
  16. When I was in Picton in 2005 they had two but only one was flying. The other had no engines and other parts missing. It also had a very odd nose cone.
  17. Not enough tension on the lines, but otherwise OK. She pounded in a stake for the apex but what about the harness? And, the harness / container was switched during the repack. I remember as a kid I thought her boobs were huge but now they seem kinda average by todays standards. Still, she was a great inspiration when I was learning to masterbate.
  18. I am just telling you what the man said. He is registered as a republican.
  19. I have watched the Imus show daily for years and also listened to him on the radio. Imus himself claimed on numerous occasions to be a registered republican. However, he also voted for democrats from time to time, most recently John Kerry. It seemed to me that he was critical of both sides and was independent politically.
  20. Stay out of this Chuck this is between me an Spotted Eagle!
  21. Dunno if you "past" your prime, but you may have "passed" your prime. Sounds like you have a solid background, but as an employer, that is about 1/3 of what I need to know/see. Are you reliable? Trustworthy? Capable of having keys to my 'kingdom?' Are you happy? do you have a great attitude? Can you tell someone that they screwed up without them feeling stupid? Can you compliment without giving them false praise? Are you a people person? Talent is important, but easily the smallest aspect of what I'm looking for in an employee. Great; glad to hear you're a skygod. Just cuz you *can* pack, the bigger question is "will you?" I don't think age has too much to do with "prime." The mere fact you ask the question perhaps sets you up for some difficult realizations. Wow! Alot of assumptions there! I would like to think I am reliable and trustworthy. I have been given the keys to the kingdom many times. I am happy and energetic. A very high maintenence and out of control person described by many... You would like me.... I was just wondering if old skydivers can still get work
  22. Now that was just mean and un-called for. I asked a serious question and you shit on my frosted flakes.
  23. Thanks John, two people think I rock! Whoo Hoo!
