Looks like the DZ at Sibson to me.

Given how broad that definition of 'weapons' is, I wouldn't lay much weight on it.

Which is the greater killer, skydiving or base jumping
DZJ replied to LilZilla's topic in Safety and Training
For me skydiving implies a freefall descent from an aircraft, simply because no matter how high a BASE structure is, a jumper's feet are still on solid ground (of one sort or another) at the point of exit (an therefore not in the sky), while a parachutist jumping from an aircraft is unquestionably airborne. -
Canopy Malfunction: Lineover (*landed*, with photos)
DZJ replied to SudsyFist's topic in Safety and Training
Under British rules, all qualified jumpers have to carry a knife for emergencies (usually to deal with lineovers on reserves rather than mains), but I'm not sure what the rules are in the States (or if there are any). -
Skyvan or Beech 99

The UK Freefly 'It's a London Thing' Boogie 2005
DZJ replied to nigelh's topic in Events & Places to Jump
just one thing to note, in the UK there are usually jump limits (for instance B licence requirement) to jump things like balloons and sometimes helicopters, so best to check that out too. Hmm, bugger. Oh well, they'll be other opportunities. (And at any rate, I've already jumped a helicopter - got to do one on jump 20!) -
The UK Freefly 'It's a London Thing' Boogie 2005
DZJ replied to nigelh's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hi Nigel I'd definitely be up for the boogie, but is there anywhere to sleep over night without a tent? Also, when you say 'huge' landing area, how big is huge? I'm a newbie and used to something the size of Langar's area. Are the balloon and helis likely to be confirmed, or are they looking dodgy? Cheers, Ian -
Haha, no, just wanting to know which states to avoid next time I'm in the states!

"Thirty-three states ban sex with animals, he said."Anyone know which 17 (besides Washingston) allow it?

I'd say the one key characteristic is professionalism.

Having already done a helicopter jump, HALO would be something new.

How old were you when you did your first jump?
DZJ replied to Orange1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First tandem aged 18 and 1 day. AFF one year later. -
Not entirely the same, but I jumped a helicopter at jump 20.
-
What jump # did you first land standing up?
DZJ replied to Nickkk's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I stood up a couple of my AFF jumps (I think half were PLF'ed, a quarter were fall-over-on-my-arse and the last quarter were stood up). By the time I got to the end of my consolidation jumps (10 jumps later) I was standing up fairly consistently - I think the key was learning to flare smoothly and to watch how the canopy was behaving right the way until touch down. -
I saw someone go in under a spinning mal while walking out to do my Level VIII hop and pop. Fortunately the jumper survived, injured but alive and able to recover. I have no desire to see anything similar again.

I opened in cloud on my Level V AFF jump - video just shows me disappearing into the grey. Was otherwise pretty uneventful, canopy opened normally, I checked it, had a look around, couldn't see a damn thing, did my other checks and then did a gentle spiral til I got out of it maybe 500 feet later.

Just had a read of the Monster Raving Loony Party's 'Manicfesto'. Was amazing - the first manifesto I've ever read with which I could agree on every single point!

Played that game last night, didn't stop pelting politicians til I got to Prime Minister!

My first reserve pull was on the ground. One of my home DZ's staff was going for his rigger's rating and as he was only going to unpack a reserve he'd just finished with, I asked if he'd mind if I pulled the ripcord on it - was quite cool to see the reserve PC launch itself off my back.

Throw the Cessna in as well, and I might start thinking about it.
-
Seems the same way to me. The first two shots seem justified, the third might be a bit dodgy.
-
Very cool post.

I was unable to jump for 5 months immediately after qualification. My recurrency training was maybe a half hour of revision on mal drills, canopy control etc, with my original AFFI before an unsupervised solo from 13k. I was happy about jumping and the jump went without incident.

Very true, and running out of VC copper is an inevitability. However, the jewellers that make the VC say they have enough for the foreseeable future (barring the outbreak of another major conflict on the scale of the Second World War). [EDIT - I see Buzz has beaten me to it, but no matter]

As the song says: But I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles To fall down at your door
