You'll notice a huge difference between the two canopies. That's losing 40 square feet of fabric in one step. Can't you try a 170 for a while? I jumped a 170 for the first part of my jump career, and recently switched to a 150. It's definitely faster, and that was only losing 20 square feet. Being scared under canopy is no fun. I did straight, seven-level AFF. After observing the sport for more than two years, I think that tandem progression is by far the best way to go, along with following USPA's Integrated Student Program all the way through. Skydiving is for cool people only

I sent this to the tsa: Hello, I am a skydiver, and often carry on my sport parachute rig when I travel. I dislike checking it because of the potential for damage or loss; insurance to cover the entire value (around $3,000) is very expensive. The rig is equipped with an automatic opening device, which will deploy my reserve parachute if I am unconcious or incapacitated. The device does NOT contain compressed gas, and is maintained by an FAA-certified parachute rigger, verifiable by a data card carried in the rig. The brand name is Cypres, and it has been classified as non-dangerous by the Department of Transportation. The last time I flew, out of CMH, I was forced by TSA screeners to check my skydiving equipment. The reason given was that I might try to hijack the plane then escape. I found that logic patently ridiculous. There are tens of thousands of sport parachutists in this country who carry on their rigs all the time. I have, myself, a dozen times before this incident. Please give me some guidelines on how to facilitate carrying on my equipment. Any letters, documents, or other materials would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Me Skydiving is for cool people only

Is having ice-skating rinks in malls normal? Half the malls in Dallas have them. I was informed last night that not only was this strange and weird, it was also a very 80s thing to do. I guess the fact that I took lessons in the Galleria makes me uncool. Skydiving is for cool people only
