  1. After my AFF 1, my instructor advised me to drive slowly. Sterling words of wisdom.
  2. I weighed it to compare it to a demo: Javelin J1 A14, Pilot 150, PDR 143, Cypres and a pull up cord = 20 lbs no wonder my back hurts
  3. I have a 1997 Javelin with the same kind of reserve flap. My rigger (probably same as yours) told me that she cannot make that modification. I think you would have to send it back to Sunpath. So far, I have had no problem sitflying with this container. You probably need to have a bridle cover added. When I first got my container, the rigger that assembled it reversed the reserve grommet per a service bulletin (I don't know which one). Hope that helps.
  4. Don't have to be naked. Note to self: always wear jumpsuit over shorts or at least jeans when sitflying.
  5. I heard that a jump ticket goes for the equivalent of about 60 USD. Imagine the cost of AFF! A lot of the Japanese go to Australia to skydive. Apparently, it's still cheaper.
  6. Theoretically, yes. However, it depends entirely on the experience and knowledge of the individual agent, which one may or may not be able to accurately assess. Yesterday, my itinerary (booked through Corporate Travel) read Heathrow-American Airlines-Terminal 4. Except, AA flies out of Terminal 3. It took 45 minutes to get to Terminal 3, lugging 75 lbs of crap. There just is no easy way.
  7. It also depends on whether you have to physically claim your luggage. I'm not sure if this is required at Dulles and O'Hare but I know it is required at JFK, even for transfer passengers. If you can find out the terminals of the arriving and departing flights, it might drive the decision. Arriving international and departing domestic may require a lengthy terminal change, depending on the airline and airport. Also, find out when the next available flight to your final destination is from each of those options. Just in case you miss the connection, this will help determine how long you may have to wait for the next flight out. I would go for the longer connection anyway. Travel is stressful and delays happen.
  8. For once, I am so glad that I am out of the country. But...I'm coming home tomorrow night so thanks for the reminder. I'm booking a car to meet me at the airport. I'm guessing that yellow cabs at JFK will be scarce. Or else you can come zipping by and pick me and my 50 lbs of luggage up.
  9. I'm bummed! See ya at Cross Keys one of these days... Congrats to the winners!
  10. Don't worry about packing a new Pilot. I just got one too and I have no problem whatsoever. And I have never been accused of being a packing wiz. I was informed that Aerodyne's zp is easier to pack when new than PD's zp.
  11. My canopy skills suddenly degraded this summer, so Cross Keys, my home dz, put together a 4 jump, private class for $170. That seemed reasonable for the one on one coaching and complete focus on my own issues. They don't normally offer an in house canopy control class. I'm doing ok now so it was worth every penny.
  12. I'm already really happy about the responses I've received! I posted about ride shares at home (when the price of gas went up) and the response was...underwhelming. Oh, and I find the concept of a tandem bus infinitely amusing. Arianna
  13. Way to go! Just get that A ASAP and you can really start to kick some ass!
  14. I am going to be in Sydney for a while starting in mid-January and would like to head to Picton for starters. About how far is Picton from Sydney? Is there anyone who would not mind sharing a ride? Of course, I will pay for gas and depreciation. I have never driven on the left side and so I am a bit reluctant to hire a car (plus, it gets really pricey). Also, any other dz's I should check out? thanks, Arianna
  15. Just want to say thanks to all for the really useful information. You all answered my questions and raised issues I was not even aware of. It's decision time...eeny meeny miney mo... Maybe I'll just set up some demos.
  16. Does anybody have a phone number or email address for Jumpshack? Their website is down. thanks!
  17. oh please! you KNOW i need to analyze. i finally learned to stop analyzing at 13.5 but i'll not be denied at 0.0.
  18. RW and Freefly, at the moment (actually, no skydiving at all currently). At my experience level, that is all I am comfortable with. In the next year or two, I would like to add Wingsuit and Skysurfing. I have a short attention span.
  19. Sounds like MJ's 2 Way camps. I went to his camp once 8 months and 150 jumps ago. He was late that day so Dan BC stepped in and jumped with us. MJ came soon after in spite of being somewhat hurt. I felt a little guilty for making him jump. His tips about tracking and exiting were really helpful to me too. He sometimes arranges tunnel time with free coaching. If you gather enough people, you might be able to request a tunnel session through him on your schedule. Check out the Excel camps at Elsinore. They're free too. Those folks are excellent coaches and I cannot say enough good things about the whole dz. A lot of people give back to the sport as individuals but to have a dz sponsor free, ongoing camps with the coaches donating their time...wow. Lucky you for living in SoCal near two awesome dzs. How's the job market out there?
  20. -Optional autopilot mode for landing. Might reduce landing injuries/fatalities. -Dedicated packer slave who will also greet you in the landing area with refreshements and take your gear back.
  21. That includes DVD and stills. A fair price in total.
  22. I am getting my finances together for year end and there it is in the Amex account of MS Money: 1-800 SKYRIDE CEDARTOWN GA OTHER DIRECT MARKETERS 03/30/04 287.70 I totally forgot who I booked my first tandem through. I guess I am simply lucky that they did not try to sell me weather insurance and really did send me to the dropzone closest to Long Beach, CA: Perris. Not to defend Skyride but hey, they got me into the sport. Then again, maybe that makes them a disservice to skydiving!
