1. I wanna do that! but with a water landing and minus the outfits. who has a rig they want to sell me?
2. Ha Ha!!! What you gotta do is lead them on, and tell them you will be right back. 5 minutes later, "I'll be right back, I just gotta finish something." and keep it rolling as long as possible. pisses the hell outta them!!
3. If your lawn was 1,218,376 acres, could you even tell if someone spilled a few drops of oil? Not to say that it is alright, but the amount of oil/ fuel they left behind is probably about the same as the average car that drives to visit the grand canyon.
4. I think killing just to kill is fine if you are dealing with a pest, not to say that a fish is a pest, but how do you know that he didn't cook the thing after he shot it? I personally have no problem watching a family of skunks meet the tires of an 18 wheeler. Its coming right for us!
5. I certainly agree then, if it was an airport/dz/aircraft governed by the FAA/USPA then he shouldn't have done it, period. It is definitely burning our sport, and I'm not cool with that. Things like that need to be taken to some random south american country, that nobody has heard of, and where you are not breaking any laws. Travis' experience is very lacking, and it does bother me that he is doing such dangerous things, I also do not want to see him hurt. If he was killed doing a triple backflip on his dirt bike, then people would say he died pushing the envelope of a sport that he was a master of, and that it was a death worthy of someone like him. But, if he died doing that moto base jump just because he decided to delay a little too long, that would be weak, and I think many people would be disappointed. With all of that money burning in his pocket, he should camp out at a major dropzone and and rack up a few hundred more jumps, that way if he does go in, it will be more of a calculated risk, rather than uncalculated recklessness. The impact of the public's view however, I think would not change. To a whuffo 100 jumps might as well be 10,000. When I tell people that I jump with my own parachute, they ask me if I can take them on a tandem!! You make some valid points, and I have very much enjoyed debating this convo. I am also in favor of letting it be, I need to get back to work and make money for jumping! Have a good one
6. You could be right about him not base jumping with his motorcycle if he didn't have a dvd he was making, but it would not be because he didn't want to, it would be because he would lack the financial backing and permits to do so. Your argument seems to be that he is disrespecting the sport of skydiving because he lacks the skill needed to "safely" do the jump without a rig, and it was illegal. The chuteless jump was not made in the USA, I don't recall where but I do not think they fall under USPA jurisdiction. So, if they don't, then the jump was not illegal. And if the jump was not illegal, then why stop him? People do reckless stunts all the time in skydiving, look at Greg Gasson with his chuteless jump, or many others who have gone with no rig. What about swooping down long canyons filled with bolders, or entering aircraft while in freefall? There are lots of things that are super dangerous, and all over the internet and dvds. So the real question is, if they were killed, would it look bad for the sport? I would say no. Not in the broad spectrum of it all. I think non jumpers can see that if someone dies trying to do a stunt, the risks were higher than an average skydive. Just like that old circus guy falling off of the high wire between the buildings to his death, or if evil knievel had died doing a stunt. Is the public going to banish motorcycles for him crashing into the side of a bus? I think not.
7. Pilot 168 huh??? That is a sweet idea. You know, they have a 150 on the rental rack, why don't I one up you? hahahaha. No, 210 is plenty small for me, I have flown a 190 before and unless there is a pretty fair breeze it would be a handful. Well I jumped today, and asked a couple people but it seems as though if they loaned me a rig and the DZO found out, it would look bad upon myself and the loaner, so nobody has been willing. A couple good points have been made regarding the responsibility of caring for another person's rig, and I agree it is certainly a big deal. Maybe I should just cut back on the jumps, and finish buying my own gear. I am a main, aad, and 1 1/2 month wait away from jumping my own stuff! woo! Thanks for the help guys
8. Shooting at fish? come on bro!! U must be kidding if you are telling me that bothers you. at least they aren't hanging on a hook and a piece of rope for an hour. And as far as littering oil and fuel, I'm sure you have not deposited a single drop of fuel into the atmosphere in all of those 3000 skydives, have you? THE GUY RIDES BIKES FOR A FUCKING LIVING!!!!!!! That means he burns fuel too. Littering bike parts???? hahahaha. the places he riders are designated areas, and that means litter all the bike parts and destroy as many plants as you like. He has bigger balls than 98% of the people on this forum, and his ego is not any bigger than an average joe. So I say way to go Travis. you are the man
9. Hum, well the people at my dz are pretty cool so I will ask some of the larger dudes, not many people jump a 210+!!
10. The key is not leaving pornos up in the background, it really slows you down
11. I am waiting for my rig to arrive, and these rental fees are killing me!!! Is it considered bad mojo to ask someone to borrow a spare rig? I would certainly be willing to give them some money/beer. What kind of compensation is reasonable, and what terms of borrowing are good ones? I would replace anything that got damaged, pay for reserve repack and new main if it was lost, etc. So, should I ask around the dz or just cut back on jumping until I get my own gear?
12. Nice! Yeah it is definitely a bummer, I wanted to jump there allot sooner but they need a D license, which will take time. Some day though!!!!!!! I guess in the mean time I can do cool things like camera jumps, wingsuit, and maybe some base. When that beach landing comes around, it will be cake!!!!!!!!!!!!
13. I just got back from cabo a week ago, and saw some canopies coming down so I walked over and talked to them. $30 to 13,000 and they want 500 jumps minimum due to the beach landing being challenging. Not sure how much for a tandem. Looked like a sweet spot to jump though!!
14. Yeah, it would be too bad if people had the option of making an informed decision. Let me change up your sentence: There are aircraft that are highly probable to have a tail strike in a climb if someone exits wrong. There are skydives that are highly probable to result in death if someone does shit wrong. Both sound legitimate to me
15. Wow!! I have heard about the stuff but never seen it demonstrated like that. What I heard was that the military is using it inside shock absorbers so they can change the dampening
16. it is slang for people who spend too much time on a computer. often when trying to type "owned" quickly, it comes out as pwned, and has become a classic. much the same as "elite" became "L33T", often with the injection of the word uber, which is german for super, giving you "You got pwned, I'm Uber L33t Yo!" This concludes your ghettofied computer lessons of the day
17. Why the hell would a gyno write this crap. Although, I have to agree, every time I put on a rig, I think to myself "Thanks doc, you are controlling my life in a very good way." I also think "hook it up with some vicodin."
18. Damn, coulda seen that one coming. here are some other large explosions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rrHk4IpYxY and my personal favorite, something to watch after u see a news report of more us soldiers dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKAxmyRau4E
19. damn, the clerk was a dumbass. firing a gun 1 foot away from a kid? if there was nobody else there, then it would make sense. also, the guy was running away! shoot him once, and if he is trying to get out of there let him go.
20. I guess it must be hit or miss, every time I have emailed them they get right back to me. I changed my address and missed out on some copies of the magazine, and they sent all of them right over. thumbs up from me
21. http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-Skydive-Skydiving-Wind-Tunnel-Thrill-Ride_W0QQitemZ250213065347QQihZ015QQcategoryZ11742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I got $50 on it. who else?
22. It might be, depending on how long the last washer and dryer have been out of commission. For me, it was a vehicle dilemma. I even have jump tickets in my pocket. DOH!!
