  1. Thanks to all. his helps with the information. I am and will be flying a big Nav 280 for the next 100 - 200 jumps, so the PC will work fine, until whenever. i may have a hackey sewn on, but only for personal tastes. Thanks again to everyone. >
  2. What does a Kill Line do on a collapsable PC? Is a regular PC with a BOC PVC type handle OK? I have jumped the spring loaded PCs on MT1, and recently have been jumpinf rental rigs with the kill line, collapsable PC, but I recently bought a Prestige container with a non-collapsable PC. Do I need the other type? Thanks for the education, Miguel >
  3. Bigun, I wiegh in at 237 , 5'10" and will probably drop to 210 - 220 within 6 - 8 months....or not. I have 90 jumps, but the last 12 have neem after a 8 year layoff from the miloitary and MFF. I am jumping a 280 Nav rental, but have my eyes set on a slightly used 280 Nav to purchase so i can start putting together my own rig. I found a Prestige container, that I need to check out, and am looking at either a Tempo 254 or a Raven 253 for a reserve. I would eventually like to downsize, if ever to a 260 or 230. Today, that is the smallest I think i will go..again that is today. Any advice or help is appreciated. I also need to work on my landings, as it seems the 280 is much different than the 7 cell 370 I jumped in the Army. Thanks, Miguel >
  4. I showed up at the DZ after not jumping since 95, and spoke to the DZso about what I needed to get back intoo the sport. He needed to see a logbook or some sort of documentation, military jump logs. I came back with my logbook and we both agree that I would go on some student jumps and go through the ground training. The number of jumps would depend on the instructor's assesment. This was an expensive proposal as i was paying the full student cosyt per jump...,but I also felt this was a smart and prudent choice. Not only was i responsible for my safety, but also for all other jumpers at that DZ. I took the class and it was a good refresher, and the six student jumps, were beneficial to get used to the DZ procedures and the equipment. I would be leaey of someone letting me jump, sight unseen without seeing my logs. I am greatfull that there are so many safety conscious folks out in the community. \ Thanks for your stand. 5. Exactly, thanks for the response. It helps to get the explanation from someone who has done both and can understand what I am trying to comprehend. Thanks >
  6. Yes, initially, the time seems like a bit too much...but your explanation of "feet out the door" makes sense. The relation between MFF and sport jumping is not a different animal, but more a different breed. I watch and learn, but in the end, safety is the common thread. The articles in the linkposted above provide an excellent explanation. The spotting procedures were a bit different, as the pilot was using a CARP (computed air release point) to determine the spot, and it looks like it is the responsibility of he first jumper in the door to verify the spot, although I don't think this is the always the case. Anyway, thanks for the information, as I am trying to transition to sport jumping and some habits are still with me..safety always. >
  7. What is a safe exit interval between jumpers exiting an AC. I have 78 MFF jumps and we either exited 3 abreast, or ducks in a row with 1 second intervals, if that. However, since I started sport jumping, the process seems to be a little different. I have seen on the posts 4 second intervals, but wanted some feedback. I think it depends on who you are jumping with and the different types of jumpers going out during the pass...free flyers, CRW, student , tandem, or just jumping. I ask because, I just went through 6 jumps with an instructor to get checked out and get my A license before clearing me to jump solo on the DZ, which is the safe thing to do. Thanks, >
