Supreme Court Rules - Gun Rights ALL 50 STATES
FreeflyChile replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
From a friend of mine working for the govt - that's EXACTLY what the city plans to do. They'll modify the law to fall within the SC decision, which will require a new suit, which depending on the decision, they'll mod the law again..and so on. -
Funky Sports team names - are they racist?
FreeflyChile replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup, Florida State cooperated (probably $$$) with the Seminoles, so they were OK. Meanwhile, in Illinois, the higher ups did no such thing and instead retired the Chief. -
That's fantastic! Thank you!

No, the ref was an idiot...and let me tell you I was shouting obscenities that I am glad are not in print. Now, people who know the game can come from any part of the globe - but between the ref whose country of origin I can't remember for the US game and then this guy (Saudi, I think), why bring in refs that clearly do not have experience with games of this magnitude?? Outside of Europe and South America, where else in the world are there leagues that are so passionately followed that the refs have to really be on top of their game? While the red card against the Swiss helped Chile, I still think it was utter bullshit... the ref was in over his head and was giving cards for pretty much anything. Maybe he's a basketball ref in his spare time?

I just picture the Pope and other high-ranking officials, in passing, going "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses'" "hit it"

Holy crap I was nervous during the last part of today's game - the Swiss missed a golden opportunity to tie it, if only we hadn't missed so many chances to put the game away.. We have to finish better or else we'll get killed by Spain. That said, go Honduras for the remaining 2 games!

I thought in hockey the review is to see whether the puck is in or not, or do they also review whether someone committed a penalty on the play that wasn't called/rescind a called penalty that shouldn't have been called?

As a Chilean, I am ecstatic about Chile's win, and really really happy that Spain lost...it really opens the group up. We'll have a very tough game Monday against the Swiss, but I am very optimistic given how aggressive Chile played - I don't think we've ever had a team that runs this much and attacks this aggressively! Also, if Honduras can even hold Spain to a tie....

Yeah, but you can't pick up chicks in that the way you can in a Geo Metro. -
Both are really great, but it's too bad the second one is in portrait view - I would have liked to set it as my desktop background if it was landscape!

From what I understand, just inhaling the atmosphere there is bad enough, why add smoking to it?! (That's from my dad, who travels to China pretty frequently from work, and who - like myself and the rest of my family, is from Santiago, Chile...so it's and "informed" opinion )

Right now, I am rooting for Ivory Coast to beat Portugal and their prissy poster boy, Christiano Ronaldo. To those that don't follow soccer - he's like Alex Rodriguez - very very talented, but vain and whiny.

Pish posh, if cost to own is an issue - then I bet, without doing any research what-so-ever, that numbers 3 or 4 on this list cost less to own than number 2 on this list. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/topten.jsp (looking at the EPA list) -
But he's just following the tradition of big British spills...

Is this like GTA on a horse? It looks good, but right now I am playing through Borderlands, so I can't really start another game just yet.

What a fun playoff run. This team was exactly the type of team this city loves - hard working, humble and with a youthful irreverence.. So the parade is set for Friday (starting only a few blocks from where I live!)...I wonder if they'll be able to get these guys here in time for the rally.. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5227496

holy. shit.

I figured pressure under the cap would probably be a problem, I just didn't know what else would be.
-
So basically, MacGuyver has to live in an empty house.
-
I haven't been following this too closely, but what was the problem with the caps (top hats or whatever) that they previously tried? Was the pressure too great to be able to contain the spill?

I lived in Chile for a total of 10 years (birth-6 years, then 12-15 years old) and remember a few, but nothing huge. I missed the relatively big one in 1986 or so and then the one a few months ago. Then again, we've had 2 (tremors, mind you) in the last 2-3 years in Illinois as well....

I think the lines shift probably energized the Hawks more than it confused the Flyers - it seemed that Byfuglien played with a ton more energy in game 5, played physically instead of maybe trying to be too much like Kane and Toews in their line, and dealt with Pronger nicely! As a Chicago fan generally, it scares the crap out of me to go to 7 games. Let's just finish this tonight! OTOH - if it goes 7, Friday will be an epic sports day!! The World Cup and game 7 on the same day! Too bad that we don't have baseball in Chicago this summer.

It likely depends on my level of friendship with both people - if the giver is a very close friend and i barely know the givee, I'd probably tell the giver to mention it. If both are equal friends - I tell the giver to say something but with a deadline, after which I tell. If the giver is merely an acquaitance and the givee is a close friend, I tell right away.

If a 35 year old male is banging a 20 year old female...

Funny how the age difference seems to always mean the guy is way older than the girl.. A friend of mine is married to a woman who is (I think) 12 years older than him. No - she's not rich! They both get along more wonderfully than 99% of the couples (married or unmarried) that I know. She's from LA, he spent a whole lot of time there ... that's how I explain it, anyway! (I think she's great, and especially great for him) -
Just scoring more goals would work (and did). That sounds like something John Madden would say.. "the key to this game, you see, is that whoever scores more points will win...BOOM!"
