So maybe someone who jumps at Hinckley regularly can take on the task of organizing us and setting up a date or a few?
-
How about the first weekend the new plane is flying at Hinckley?
-
It is supposed to be above freezing here so hopefully it is jumpable. I would not mind even doing hop-n-pops as long as I am jumping. Alex
-
Oh yeah it is, and everything looks way different when covered with snow. Your typical landmarks might not be visible because they are covered.
-
yeah, I guess you need to make sure you are stopped before you put your foot into the snow. I also hate the fact that the first couple of jumps in snow each season it is harder to judge how high you are and when to start your flare. I guess good thing for me is that I usually flare a bit high on those occasions as opposed to flaring late. Alex
-
Yeah, let's set up some dates for the record.
-
Seb, let me know when you are coming. I will pick you up from the airport and drive you to a DZ. I owe you one anyhow. Alex
-
I have a vest but I will have to wear 12 to 20 lb depending on how fast everyone else falls. If we do end up with more than 20, I might be able to go without it. Alex
-
It might be more fun to do the record attempt out Hinckley's new plane.
-
Yeah, I could come down to Hinckley for a record attempt if I am not teaching at East Troy. Alex

it is freezing up there. Actually I have never been cold in freefall. My hands get cold only after I have opened. It does suck to jump with a million layers of clothes under your jumpsuit. I have jumped when it has been no more than 20 on the ground and landing in snow is not bad, but I would much rather jump in warm weather. Alex
-
It is not all that warm here in Chicago either. The highs are only supposed to be in the low 30 's on Thur and Fri, but might warm up into the mid 40's for the weekend. I can't wait until it gets to be in the 70's again. Alex

with the new ISP, you might be required to jump with a coach anyhow until you have your A. It might be a wash in terms of money. Actually if I was you, I would get my A before I move so than I would not have to worry about student jumps. Alex
-
mine came out to be Crusty Toilethead. I am glad my parents did not pick this one for me! Alex

Hey Tom, I am fine. How are you? I just like the tunnel. It improves skills a whole lot and that in itself a big confidence booster. I also agree that if no tunnel is available a relaxation dive is a good thing. I actually took a student on an AFF jump who previously refused to get out of the plane for a S/L jump twice. He liked the AFF jump and stuck with those. But agian, the tunnel is a very valuable tool and you lear a lot more than its equivalent in jumps (in terms of free fall time) Alex
-
I guess I dare to disagree because I like that tunnel so much. Alex
-
Well, that sucks! I liked that ride!
-
If you go to the WFFC make sure you jump the chopper there. You get a great ride plus the jump. The first few seconds are different. Not enough speed to work with. It is all about balance. I have jumped the wffc chopper (bell 412 I think) and a Jet Ranger and they are both cool. Alex

Matt, go to the tunnel. You will benefit a whole lot more from it than from one relaxation dive. You are no t relaxed probably because you are telling yourself that you just cannot get it right since you failed L6 twice. Go to the tunnel, get your skills polished up and than you will have a lot more confidence in yourself. I am sure that you will end up passing all levels in no time after that. Plus I bet you will learn a few more things in the tunnel too. Just think about it - 10 min of tunnel time is like 10 jumps worth of practice. Plus when was the last time you made 10 jumps in a day or a half a day or even better in half an hour? You will do the 10 min in the tunnel in about half hour worth of time. You can even go to the tunnel in the morning and than go to the DZ after that and finish AFF. Bottom line - go to the tunnel! Alex

105,500+ on the first try. Fun game

If you are talking about a flat turn this is achieved with the toggles. Go to half brakes and turn from there. Shifting in the harness causes the canopy to dive so that is not a flat turn. I have done a flat turn using brakes on a FX88 loaded at 1.9. So they are possible. I have also landed that canopy from half brakes in light wind without problems. I hope we are talking about the same thing, otherwise just ignore the post. Alex

Well, at your wing loading and canopy size you can always go to half brakes. Than flare from there. The speed is much slower and a good PLF will help keeping you from injuries. If you are an experienced canopy pilot you could actually go up the hill through your flare, but that also has its limitations. A slight uphill is not that big of a problem for swooping it but a steep one might be really challenging. Remember that when you flare you generate lift. You can make the canopy go upwards by giving more flare at higher speed. Anyhow, I would recommend you go to half brakes next time on your canopy. Alex
