Non USPA rated TI taking out students
chutem replied to skygypsie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
THIS. Inability to obtain a 3rd class does not mean a skydiver is unsafe. One must be physically and mentally very healthy to begin with to even become a skydiver, let alone get to the point of experience where a DZ gains confidence in said skydiver to potentially jump tandems. A 3rd class certificate is meaningless in aviation but especially so in skydiving. Well we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I believe if we're taking passengers and putting others at risk whether it's LSA, balloons, tandems, etc. we owe them at least an effort to see that we're in good health. The 3rd class may be a joke so we could require a standard physical checkup every other year. We could put that responsibility on the TI/pilot but I've known a few closet diabetics in my time that keep right on flying planes and taking passengers. At least they were in the closet until they had a problem. you are missing the point. We are living in a culture where we incorrectly believe we need government bureaucrats to protect us. It is a joke that a government official in washington DC who has zero knowledge about skydiving could protect us better than the DZO. I for one, trust my DZO, staff, pilots and jumpers to stay safe and keep me safe long before I would ever trust a federal bureaucrat. Does the government require the class 3 medical or USPA rating being discussed here? -

Not sure where I stand on the issue. I wonder how much difference it might make in a pax lawsuit? -
Thanks I appreciate that.

That's what I thought prior to getting conflicting info from Golden Rule/United Healthcare. I'm having a hard time finding anything clear cut saying this is how it is. Maybe my googlefoo is just weak. Most that I find on the subject of grandfathered policies is written for employers.
-
They've been jacking the bill regularly the last few years. I'm sure another one is coming. They are happy to move me to a more expensive plan that is in compliance.
-
I insure my seven year old son with Golden Rule from United healthcare. I received a letter that this coverage does not meet the mandates of Obamacare, but that we will be allowed to keep the policy as it is grandfathered. Will I get fined for not having my child on an approved plan? I'm getting different answers on this depending on who I ask at Golden Rule.

I went to that DZ's web site, and all they have listed for air craft is a Cessna 182, no twotter. Something happened to it. I also noticed the green canvases over the walkways outside of manifest were torn and blowing in the wind. You can see the moneys not there. Fake, or no? Not sure. Fact: They don't have a twotter no mo' Best- Richard Maybe I went to the wrong site, link please.

That's what I was thinking: Check to be sure pilot is wearing bailout rig. Get on a load planning to be last out. Wait until everyone else is gone. Chuck pilot out the door. Fly plane to where ever the bank wants it delivered. As long as where ever the bank wants it delivered is within 5 mins fuel and glide.

That's just the murders. currently. in the real world (not your mental masturbation world) guns are legal, and criminals sometimes use them in the commission of a crime. This is a fact. Ah, but you can't just remove them. This is what I refer to as the "magic gun eraser button" argument. If you could push the magic button and make guns go away, then yes, there would be no gun crime. But that is fiction. Not fact. You are addressing fictional ideas in your ideal world where guns don't exist. You are not addressing fact. If the "magic gun eraser button" removed all guns and all memories of them in humans I'd guess it would only be a matter of days before someone invented the gun as a new and improved way to kill his fellow man.

There has to be a "reasonable" inquiry. A person can subjectively be in fear that his/her life is in danger. Meanwhile, the circumstances are that no reasonable person thinks that the girl scout was trying to give out a cookie bomb. On the other hand, there may be circumstances where others can reasonably believe that a person's life is at risk when a person is involved in combat but the person is not subjectively afraid. For example, a person raises his fists and goes to pummel a guy, but the victim is Floyd Mayweather who can lick anyone and had no subjective fear. There does have to be an element of subjective and one of objective. I consider myself a reasonable man. I'm sure most people also consider themselves the same, that's where it gets interesting.

I don't think that question can really be answered until one is in the moment. I'd rather not deal with all that goes along with killing someone if I can avoid it.
-
In that scenario Nugget probably can't kill me in self defense since I'm winning the fight and he has said that he does not carry. The answer to the real question I think you ask.... It is appropriate to use my weapon to defend myself when I feel that my life is in danger.
-
Right. You are being raped, violently attacked with no provocation, respond in kind. What about this scenario, I see you, you get spooked and run away. I chase after you and confront you. I grab you. We start fighting. You start winning! Can I kill you in self defense? Probably not, since I'd be armed and you would not.

Rental Gear - I guess I'm just venting.

Yes I did get packing training. It definitely wasn't a formal class. The biggest problem I have right now are the S folds and getting a big ass canopu in that tiny ass bag. Everything gets all messes up when I am trying to stuff it in and I have to start over. http://www.sidsrigging.com/articles/greed.htm This method helped me get that big slippery sucker in the bag. -
My father in law passed away early this week, we've been in LA for a month since he went into the hospital...I was up with him for his last 60 hours holding his hand and talking to him. I'll never lose the image in my mind of how he looked at me knowing death was coming but wanting to live and be with his wife & daughter just one more minute. His life was a hard one but seeing how he loved it, the immense value he put on things we often take for granted, saddens me all the more. I understand now better than ever, just how precious our time here is & how important the people around us are. He was 85, vibrant and outgoing...he had a really rough childhood, little in his world came easy & he had plenty of cause to 'complain' about his life, about his circumstances - - - but he NEVER did. He was always positive, always funny...had the same sarcastically dry sense of humor I do. I really liked the guy. Spending these last weeks with him gave me pause to take a hard look at MY life & problems... I always knew I was a lucky guy that Forest Gumps his way through life...I think I now have an even greater appreciation for MY circumstances. Marty loved his life and his family...that's all he cared about - watching him fight for life with every ounce of strength in his body for a month certainly has changed how I look at mine. Realigned the priorities a bit. I know without a doubt where my wife gets her guts, her tenacity... It's not about what we have or don't have...the things that go sideways or give us grief - it about having the day, the time to live, to laugh & to love...what else really matters? I saw the sun rise this morning...I have NO complaints! You Sir, set the bar pretty darn high, one hell of an example of what it means to be a man.

Why would yo ask this? How is the Hobbs connected to the oil pressure switch or the E bus? Can yo do anything about this??? Why are yo asking us as compared with the rental aircraft owner? You have just held up a sign.... C I suggest you take this particular aspect of this question to the student pilot section on the AOPA site.... Not being sarchastic or nasty here, just ending a conversation that you can't do anything about...when renting aircraft.... In the long run it really dosn't matter, shopping for rentals based upon how the meter is connected isn't going to save any cash.... It looked to me like he was asking the other poster if the $130hr was hobbs or tach on the aircraft they rented. WTF are you trying to say? Are you implying that he would disconnect the hobbs?

If you have something to argue, put it here!

I can't argue with that. -
I wonder what happens if you coat the bottom of a boat with it?

Very cool!!!!! James

I remember them doing it "Behind Victory Garden Walls" It was "Black Boys" when I was taught that in high school.

The plane crashed in Canada, not at Lodi. And, how many planes have crashed at Lodi? If not a "Lodi" pilot then my bad. Was the pilot an employee of Bill D.?
-
Crappy maint. and crappy pilot, you sure are helping the Lodi side of this.
-
I'm thinking this a buildup to some kind of April Fools type deal.

Just to be clear... It's great that you are checking winds prior to jumping (I'll assume you meant 'manifesting'). You wouldn't believe how many people get on jump planes not having any clue whatsoever as to what the winds are doing. But just to be clear, wind socks, in and of themselves, do not indicate turbulence. Your description only indicates a change in wind speed, not turbulence. A windsock CAN indicate turbulence where it is: - quickly changing direction - spinning - going haywire, say in a thermal or dust devil - indicating a direction and/or speed different than another indicator close by - and others.... I hate turbulence and I hate the jumpers at my old DZ because tehy used me as a turbulence indicator. I fly with my legs crossed but when I hit urbulence, them legs spread out like a gymnast doin' a split. It's uncontrollable. "Oh hell...we got turbulence. Andy's legs flew out at 2K." Every DZ needs one of those/you.

The proposal in universal background checks, not just gun shows. How would universal background checks be enforced? Derek V When they somehow find you in possession of great grandpa's shotgun passed down to you through the family years ago you'd need to be able to prove you've had a background check for the transfer unless you can produce a receipt stating when you got it. If you can't do this hello felony charges and welcome to the world of privately run for profit prisons.
